edited March 2014 in Breast Cancer #1
Well, I was a little too hopeful on my last post about my update. I did get a copy of the cat scan and it did show a slight decrease in the tumor in my liver which was originally 9x8 cm, yikes, it is huge. Also, there was a decrease in most of the swollen lymph nodes in my stomach area, however, there was a slight increase in one of the lymph nodes. Also, there was some activity in my bone mets. Soooo, i am going for a second opinion on Aug 24 at Fox Chase Cancer Center, with Dr Massimo Cristofanilli who is a specialist with Inflammatory breast cancer and has come to Philadelphia from MD Anderson in Houston. Spent 2 days on the phone setting this up, i am now trying to get all my records together. Pain is getting better, so that is a plus. I have been very tired and found out that I am anemic and my blood count was low, they did an iron panel to check that out. Still trying to set up an appointment for the Lymphedema issue, since there are not too many lymphedema specialists. And also, it seems like everyone is on vacation!!!! I am on disability from work, my doctor has me out for 6 months, which has been approved.
I have been reading everyones posts, and it looks like everyone is doing well. I am a little concerned about switching doctors at this point, i saw a post about this. Take care...

Good luck on the second opinion! I just came back from MDA and they were great there! Hard to make the switch but it is worth it and be true to yourself. Trust your instincts. I know mine are usually right on!! I totally understand the med rec thing...just went through that to get into MDA. Quite the challenge but you are totally worth it. Prayers and hugs coming all the way from San Antonio tx! MJ

    Thank you everyone. Now
Thank you everyone. Now trying to figure what i am going to do with the next 4 months off work!!! Besides doctor appointments and phone calls. I do need this time to recoup and let my body heal. Well i have been cooking up a storm, yesterday i made potato egg salad, homemade pickles (I swear to die for!! Rachel Ray recipe), cost about $10 for the ingredients and i could have bought a jar for 2 bucks. Last nite made cupcakes. Today, my hubby took me on a run to try a new pizza place (ugg) and cherry water ice. So, it is all about the food! I do need all the hugs, trying to stay positive. take care

    Hi Meena!
They just need to find the right course of treatment at this point. I think a new doc can be just what you need. New docs, new information and a new course of treatment that will put your BC in it's place. One of the woman in my support group was told by her onc who is also the head of research at Yale that there are exciting new treatments on the horizon. Some are already available and more are to follow. She was so positive that she gave my friend renewed hope. As difficult as it is, please stay in a place of faith and hope. Hugs.

    Yes, thank you Roseann.
Yes, thank you Roseann. There are a lot of new drugs and therapies around, but sometimes it is hard to get insurance to approve them. That was my problem a couple months ago. But i seem to be doing well on the Taxol and Herceptiin.
