Went topless...and posted a pic of it!
To make a long story short it did not go very well...with the stares and comments and giggles i almost bought a hat...i just wanted to curl up in a ball and cry, feeling the embarrassment and shame!
After sitting in the car debating if i wanted to continue my outting with my sister...all i could think about was the girls on this board that had the curiage to do this...negative or positive...then i started getting my confidence back and with an attitude.
I thought why should i care what these people think (even though it hurts) but i cant help that they are rude and stupid and uneducated. Granted i dont like my hair this way and i know it doesnt look good but damn it, it wasnt my choice, so why should i let them make me feel bad or ashamed...they are the ones that should feel ashamed.
So me and my sister continued our day together and i was ready with my new attitude for the next stare, giggle or rude comment but it never came...maybe the new attitude scared everyone...hehe!
After that it got better...i even walked into the gas station that i go to almost everyday and the clerk asked me if i got a new hair cut...DUH!!! He felt embarrassed after he said it and i just laughed.
I actually couldnt stop running my hand over my head cuz it was really windy out and the wind going through my hair actually tickled...i hadnt felt that feeling in so long!
Well i figure since i went topless in public i could share my new look with everyone on this board to...so i posted a pic of it in my profile.
It wasnt till i was posting it that i noticed my wings sticking straight out...didnt know my hair was long enough for wings...hehe!
I think im going to add some highlights to it in a couple weeks!
I want to thank all of you who gave me the curiage to turn a negative situation into something so positive!

You look GREAT
You really look GREAT; I bet that at least some of the people looking were feeling some empathy for your situation (although I am sure that some were jerks). I don't know very many families who haven't been affected by a family member with cancer. Keep up the attitude; it's working!!!

Yay
I am so happy for you Jo Jo! Personally, I think you look so cute. It's true people can be so dense. It makes me wonder if I ever did that to anyone! Geez, the lessons I've learned! I agree that attitude is everything. My 16 year old daughter talked me into dying my auburn hair into platinum blonde!!! Honestly, I still don't quite feel like myself, so, seeing that crazy blonde chick staring back at me in the mirror-gives me confidence! SO- I posted a pic of me on my blog too! Let's here it for hair blowin' in the wind!! xoxo, Jackie0 -
You're beautiful
You're beautiful and congratulations on going topless. Your hair is a lot longer and thicker than mine was when I did it.
Thanks for sharing your courage with us.

Being topless can be so liberating! I encourage you not to allow others to cramp your style.
You are absolutely beautiful.
Me, on the other hand, I resemble an egg with lipstick..and it is beginning to look as though people will think I brought in a picture of Anderson Cooper to my stylist and said I want to look like this. My daughter hopes going topless will even out the tan lines on my head.
Our personal comfort, particularly now, is of the utmost importance.
Their ignorance is their problem.
For what it's worth, i'm thrilled for you.0 -
Dee .. I did the same thing .. Used gel glue and spikedGood for you!!!

my hair .. it wasn't too bad .. didn't have the face for it .. but I've worn this new look for several months.
To Hell with anyone not walking in the shoes of a woman or man having endure weeks and months of chemo therapy .. and faced with losing our hair.

I think you look great. The first time going topless is hard, but I'm so glad I finally did it. It's too HOT this summer for that darned wig. Thanks for sharing.0 -
It rocks!!
I first went "public" with my shorter than short haircut to...you guessed it...Walmart!! And I sooooo remember that tingly sensation that I felt when the wind was actually touching my scalp. It felt so good! Once I felt that feeling I had so missed, I couldn't go back to covering up.
I'm glad you did it! Woo Hoo! And yes, who cares what anyone thinks?!??! You FEEL good and that's ALL that matters0 -

I now can ride in the car with all windows down, and don't have to deal with hair in face. When I went out I never had anyone stare or say any ugly thing. I did have some girls checking me out hahaha they thought I was a cute guy. You look great so flaut it.0 -

Way to go, jo jo!!!!! I did
Way to go, jo jo!!!!! I did the same thing and decided to start going topless a few days ago! And holy smokes, the stares and rude statements people will make very loudly to make sure I can hear them are so infuriating. But I kept thinking about everybody on this site, too, and it helped get me through Wal-Mart the other day without bawling, haha. Proud of you, lady!! You are so encouraging - I was actually a little down this morning and debating whether or not to get the bandanas out. Don't think I will now... BTW my chemo curls on my sides are still so short they don't classify as wings yet, but they most definitely defy gravity and curl *up* instead of down, haha. trying out a little hair paste stuff today....0
