songs of hope, music to help

My grandmother has been struggeling with intestinal cancer for about 2 years. Since 2007 it's over and she got released and is now in a better place.
Now since music is such a big thing in my life, I think music is a great way to help cancer patients. Did you do any experience with that?
Is there maybe some songs you've always listened to, when you didn't feel good and needed something to cheer you up? Or did you make music on your own, which made you feel better?

    During chemo treatment I
During chemo treatment I played a CD called Piano Rain. Very soothing. It was all piano and rain sounds.

What an odd title for it. I'm glad it wasn't called "Pots and Pans"
    ;-)

    Music
I was not much for music during my treatment, but what did make me feel better was my daughter’s pit bull, she would tip toe over to where I was laying and put her head on my stomach and just stay in that position for hours until I started feeling better. Once I started feeling better she would leave and run out side to start playing. It was like she had some type of perception of how I was feeling

    Strange you should say that.
Strange you should say that. Pots and pans is the only thing I know how to play! I can play the comb too but it tickles my lip.

    LOVE K-Love!
Inspirational Christian music helped me tremendously during my battle and continues to inspire me with hope & strength!

I just thank God for the spirit filled words that speak and touch the lives of those who listen.

I think K-Love is just about everywhere now :)

"I just need some place where I can lay my head"
References to rain and pots and pans should remind us that music, in primitive form, precedes language (and probably religion) as a means of expression for man, so finding solace or meaning from it is not surprising.

I always took a portable CD player (to think: that admission dates me ... already!) with me for chemo treatments, and had them play the radio while I underwent radiation treatments, using the songs as both a diversionary tactic and a time-keeping device.

    Take care,

    Joe

For me, music is not nearly
For me, music is not nearly the diversion that the spoken word is. I have an IPod, now 2 years old, which Reggie bought me for my birthday, he and Siobhan lovingly loaded for me with all of my Classic Rock favorites. I used it...once. On the day I got it! And never again.
I am the type of person who loves all of the trivia involved..I need/want someone jabbering to me about who was in the band, who played bass, what year it was and who they were married to, the original name of the song or band...just stuff!

I also love Talk Radio~ as long as it has NOTHING to do wth anyone who likes or agrees with Rupert Murdoch or anything else Fox! I am so left and liberal that if I lean a bit more, I may fall off the edge of the earth! I wear earbuds all night long, and listen to what The Left from San Francisco is talking about! Who needs sleep? LOL

So, if( and I just might, come October) I am once again in the chemo-chair at the cancer center, I will have my trusty TRANSISTOR radio! I have babied that thing, as I know they are near impossible to find anymore.

    But that's what distracts me!

    Hey Joe...
Great tune. One of the best concerts I ever saw was The Band. It was a horrible venue and horrible conditions (REALLY HOT and over crowded) but the music more than made up for it....

During my first operation I had a portable CD player with me. I got myself an iPod for the second and subsequent ones. I would either listen to music or books on tape. I found it to be a great distraction plus I love music too. I also enjoy listening to the radio (NPR or Jazz) but I can't always get reception in there

    Hey, Phil ....
The Weight is in my top 10. There have been times when it was number one. That, understandably, changes, but it is definitely a top 10.

I hope that all is well, my friend.

    Take care,

I can live with those choices :), although ZZ seems to be playing the same song over and over, or is that just me?

"You may see me tonight with an illegal smile"
We guitar players have to stick together!

I am not familiar with Jim Cole and will have to seek him out online.

When I play I tend toward Bob Dylan, John Prine, Jimmy Buffett, Willie, and certainly Neil Young. Don't know how many people I've 'turned on' to Prine over the years :).

Congratulations on survivorship, Jerry, and welcome to the club! (The membership 'requirements' suck but the members are among some of the finest, brightest, most giving, caring people you are likely to come across.

    Take care,

    Music really has a healing
Music really has a healing power and I must say that I feel that music is the only reason I am here today besides my doctors, of course!! Playing my favorite music helped me to be calm and lifted my spirits when I was feeling down and out and it always helped to get back in good spirits!! I loved listening to country songs and I loved one call “I am a Survivor” though I don’t know the singer – any idea anyone??

    I love my ipod!

There are some beautiful songs out there. The Celtic Women is one. I can't think of them all right now. But I like to go through the itunes store or youtube and listen to music.

I picked my funeral music, just to prove to this old cancer that I was in charge! lol Stage 4 and in remission, 2 years!

    music really helps
Before the illness I used to be a great rock fan...in the process of healing I started listening to Christian music... Could not imagine how these two genres can be combined, but then found P.O.D band and was introduced to Christian metal. This love is forever.

what a great topic! I love music, and enjoy all different kinds:) For modern music, I love a band called carbon leaf, the freddy jones band, the allman brothers, paul simon's 'rhythm of the saints', led zeppelin, great big sea (check out "something beautiful"), fleet foxes, cream, the chieftans if you like a lot of instrumental, folk, and irish music, and big head todd and the monsters.
