++++++Can you recommend a good red wine?++++++

At the risk of sounding like a drunk ( lol ), I wanted to know if any of you that do drink wine could recommend a good red wine.

I usually drink a glass ( or two ) of a Riesling. I really love the taste of it.

But, I have read so much about a glass of red wine being good for us. I talked with my oncologist about drinking contributing to bc, and, he said that drinking a lot of anything can lead to a lot of problems and diseases. Just drink in moderation.

So, can anyone recommend a red wine to me? I know nothing about them, a rose, merlot or what?

    I like Merlot and Shiraz the best. I like dry red wines and these two types seem to kind of burst with flavor. As far as brands, its trial and error- I might love one brand but next time I try it , not so much! Its definitely a personal thing! Maybe you can find a wine tasting event and try a few.

    I usually drink white wines too, but, I also like a Merlot. Some of the reds are way too strong tasting for me.

    Elm had a great idea. Try a wine tasting event!

    Yes, I agree that it would be fun to do a wine tasting event. Perhaps visit a vineyard in your area to get a lay of the land. Also, when you're out to dinner at a nice place try asking the wine person for a red wine recommendation to go with your food. They can educate you on variaties and vintages. This sounds like a fun project!

    I got tired of opening a bottle, having a glass, screwing the top back on (corking is too much trouble) and having the wine taste like pee the next time I wanted it.

    Good old Frazia Chillable Red....I call it my 5 gallons for 10 bucks wine. Stays fresh for a year at least cause no air gets in it. It used to last me a long time till everyone I know developed a taste for it. Now I'm lucky if it lasts 2 weeks.

    leaving in California I am going to talk about California wines. My last year favorite has been Pinot Nior, Cambria, 2007. Cambria is a small town on Central Coast. It is very light and good for meet and fish. All of my friends like it and we have been buying it every time when we host people. We also gave this wine as presents for different occasions.

    This is a wine/beer lover's paradise. The staff is very well trained to help you select just the right wine for your taste. They also have tastings. All the wines have descriptions attached and their prices can't be beat.

    One of my everyday reds is Double Dog Dare. There is a Merlot and a Cabernet Sauvignon; both are very good for----believe it or not----under $3.00 a bottle. There for awhile they were selling it for $1.47 a bottle. They also has DDD Chardonnay. Beats "two buck Chuck" by a long shot.

    I'm also a fan of the red blends---Menage a Trois and Kitchen Sink.

    By the way, is it okay to drink wine while on chemo???

    I like a Merlot. I don't buy really cheap brands, but, I don't buy the most expensive either. Call your local wine store and see if they do have wine tastings there.

    Riunite Lambrusco. It is a
    Riunite Lambrusco. It is a sweet red wine, but remember, no alcohol during chemo. Sangria is also awesome. Below is a homemade recipe:

    3 cups Burgandy wine
    3/4 cup sugar
    1/4 cup lime juice
    1 cup orane juice

    mix together the sugar, lime juice and orange juice in a picture, then add the wine. Mix and add orange, apple and lime slices. Best served over ice. Salud!

    My sweet hubby brought me home a bottle of Beringer White Merlot. lol At least it is kind of red colored. Not quite what I had in mind, but, bombs away!


    Love the ideas of a wine tasting. I never thought of that, duh me.

    Hi,

    If you like white you simply HAVE to try my favorite Sauvignon Blan, it's called Kim Crawford, New Zealand.
    For reds' since you are a beginner maybe start with a Pinot Noir. Or a south African grape variety called
    Pinotage is really light too.

    A favorite red zin (which tend to taste like dark berries and chocolate) is Klincker Brick Red Zinfandel from
    California.

    I could go on and on.....

    Reggie and I are red wine drinkers and we love a good Pinot Noir over just about anything out there! Not to be stupid here, but if you find you don't actually like Red Wine, you can get pretty much the same effects from unfermented ( duh! grape juice!) namely Concord grapes. And, many health food stores have capsule form of the health benefits from red wine, as well. That way, you can have the red in capsule form and enjoy your Riesling! All good!

    No Wine during chemo??
    I've accepted that I'll lose my hair and be beyond fatigued, but do I have to give up my red wine in the evening?? Uuurrrrgggghhhh!!

    Thanks everyone for all of these suggestions! I am going to have to look for all of them and try them out. I knew I could count on my sweet sisters to help me out, even if it wasn't bc related! Love you all!

    My favorite is Pino Noir.. in my lowly opinion the California wines are the best... try not to get a cheap bottle of any red wine though or oh the headache you will have in the morning...

    I agree that you have to be
    I agree that you have to be very careful with Reds because of the potential for headache. Some migraine sufferers can't drink Reds at all. I have found that the cost of the bottle doesn't guarantee a good wine or prevent a headache later. I've suffered a pretty good headache while drinking an expensive bottle; it didn't even wait for the next morning! That being said, I rarely drink any cheap wines unless I've gotten a recommendation.

    Oh! Oh! Oh! I almost forgot, until Headache was mentioned! Never, ever, ever drink wine without drinking AT LEAST as much water as alcohol! I try and drink even more water than alcohol...I don't care how much I have to pee; I am keeping hydrated and getting red wine benefit! And no headache!
