CA 125 holding steady

Had my labs drawn yesterday and my CA125 is still a 6. That's two months in a row, both drawn after I had completed my first round chemo treatments (6 infusions of Carbo/Taxol).

Six may be my nadir.

I am NED and doing a year of (monthly) Taxol maintenance.

    Congrats!!! I can remember when my husband's granmother would get good news after that draw. She said it was better than Christmas morning when it was good news!

    Congrats on the number. I had mine drawn and eventhough it went up a bit still in the normal range. So I am blessed again. Here's to low numbers and great days.

    Some doctors - not just yours - are not believers when it comes to maintenance chemo. They are all a bit different. My doctor does not do "second look" surgeries. He does not do nearly as many IP ports/treatments as he used to, though other doctors almost always prescribe it. I was very upset, and considered changing doctors, when he refused to give me IP chemo. I think there is a fine line between trusting one's physician and being your own advocate, and I think it's perfectly okay to seek out a doctor who utilizes a treatment plan you have confidence in. It is, after all, our lives we are talking about and I firmly believe we get the final say-so.

    My doctor does not recommend maintenance for everyone, and he leaves it totally up to the patient when he does. He told me straight up that there is no evidence it will prolong my life, but the trial was terminated early, even though it showed promise, so there isn't any evidence contraindicating it, either. He has had some success with it in his practice, he beleives.

    I have 10 more infusions to go, so only time will tell if it is working for me or not. And even if I stay NED, we'll never know....I might have kept the beast at bay even without the extra Taxol. It hasn't been hard on me (so far), and I didn't want to find myself doing the whole "what if" thing later, had I declined the maintenance and suffered a recurrence.
