having PET/CT scan Thurs pm & bloodwork results
Just an update on me- I just found out today that my PET/CT scan will be tomorrow (Thursday) at 3:00 pm. This is the first time I'll be having the scan done in the afternoon. I was told I can have a very light breakfast, as long as I have nothing except water after 8 a.m. I just made arrangements for the kids to be picked up from school, and imagine I'll not be home until after 5 p.m. I always leave with a CD disk of my scan. Although I don't know how to specifically read or compare, I know how to look at it enough to see whether spots are still lighting up in my lungs and liver. I know what my last one in Feb looked like, so I'll be able to see on it on the computer myself whether it looks about the same, worse, or better than the last one. Not being one to ever wait for very long for the official results in the form of the written scan report, I will plan on getting it from the hospital records room the next day, as I've always done in the past. I have an appt with my onc on Tuesday. He knows I never wait for my appt. w/ him to get my results- lol! I did get another CEA result back, which was taken on 4/28 right before the last time I got chemo. It was 61.8 and it was 62 the time before. I was hoping it would have gone down more, but at least it's stable. Since I had another chemo treatment since then, maybe it's actually a little less than that now. I've been feeling good, which I'm very glad of. I went in for the basic bloodwork today & all my counts of white cells, platelets, hemoglobin, etc. were all good. Oh, I had my vitamin D level checked, as it hadn't been checked in a few months. It's now up to 65, which is pretty good considering that a little over year ago when I first had it checked it was at 13. I'll report back in here when I have my scan results.

Thinking of you, Lisa, and sending all good wishes your way.
I have a scan Friday am in Hong Kong which is ALMOST the same time (?) -- I'll be thinking of you while I'm in that scanner!
Love,
Tara
Hi Tara,
Ok- I'll be thinking of you too while I lay in the scan bed! I hope and pray we both have good results!
Take care,

good results!
I'm glad you take control of the situation and get your scans on CD. I have a few on CD, but really, just prefer to see the written interpretation. I figure that's what the radiologist makes the big bucks for! Looking forward to your good news on Friday

Lisa,
Sounds like things are moving in the right direction with your CEA. I am so happy for you. I have a CT scan tomorrow at the same time (taking in account the time difference) so I will be praying for you and perhaps you can think of me. We can re-direct that radiation into good thoughts for one another across the 3000 miles that are between us. I always wait and get a copy as well but my husband always makes me promise to leave it in the cd case. I like to have them in case I ever needed to quickly get stuff to another doctor or just for my records.
I love your new pic of the family and I hope you are enjoying the spring and getting out to do gardening etc.
Love and hugs to you Lisa!

Hi Amy,
Wow- so three of us are all getting scanned at the same time- I'll be looking forward to hearing all of our results! Thanks for the comment and yes, I've definitely been enjoying spring- it's my favorite season and we've just had beautiful weather lately. I planted some vegetables and some flowers this past week. Long overdue, as my garden has been sorely neglected lately.
We'll check in w/ each other again soon. Hugs to you, and I'll also be thinking of and praying for you tomorrow, as well.

back from scan and looked at CD
Hi All,
Well, I finished the PET/CT a couple of hours ago & walked out with a CD of it. Before looking at it, I popped the CD of my last scan on 2/10/10 in to remind myself what that looked like. Then popped in the new one from today...same old lit up spots all over lungs and my liver. Damn. BUT, maybe it's stable- I really couldn't tell from looking if it was worse, better, or the same. It actually did not look better- either the same (stable) or slightly worse. I do need to remember that this is the first time ever that starting up treatment again after a bad scan that treatment was delayed. In the past, I always started new treatment w/in a week or so after the scan. This time it was 5 weeks (because of not getting in a clinical trial and the insurance denial saga)- but that does mean that I probably got worse in those 5 weeks & that was never recorded on a scan. So when the Gemzar started working, it was like 5 steps backward and 3 forward. Something like that. I'm surmising, since I don't have the scan report yet. I should get that from the hospital tomorrow afternoon & then I meet w/ my onc next week Tuesday.
Well, I'll check back in w/you all later.
Hugs,

I'm hopin' to hear "stable." Sounds like you already know sort of what the outcome is, Lisa - not surprising, you're a sharp gal.
I'll wait right along with you to find out what's up doc?
