awesome news Mike!!Chefdaddy said:What a day!
Hi Hondo,
Yuppers, this is the final week! Yippie!!! It actually ends on Monday, the 29th.
The day started off very scary, as radiation's machine had broken down earlier, and by the time I got out of there and home to change into dress clothes and drive back down town in heavy late afternoon traffic, I was almost late to court. That would have been very bad.
When my crazy ex saw me enter the courtroom she couldn't stop staring at me, as I'm now 60lbs lighter, burnt swollen lips, big radiation sores on the back of my neck, radiation burns on both sides of my throat and surgery scars on my neck. (real hunk huh? lol)
She then came to my part of the table that faces the judge and started putting her hands on me, and started crying, asking me if I had cancer, was I sick? I kept telling her to take her hands off me and go sit down. This went on for nearly five minutes and finally the judge entered the courtroom and she had to go back to the other end of the table.
Then the judge started staring at me and said "I'm going to ask you a personal question".
I responded with "Do I have to answer it in this arena?" He said "No, but I"m going to ask it anyway and if you do not want to answer it then just say that you decline to answer".
He then said, "You look very different from almost 2 months ago, are you ill?" I said "I've been under the weather lately", he smiled at me, knowing I wasn't going to give him a strait answer if I could get away with it. He then asked, "Are you well enough to go through todays hearing?" I said "Yes". and that was the end of that. But the ex, who was so tearful and concerned a couple minutes before, immediately started bashing and blaming me for everything. The judge caught her lying and then put her under oath.
In the end, the judge ruled against her motion in trying to get the previous judges Order of no parenting time, and no contact reversed.
I'm so glad this is over. For her to get another chance at this in court in trying to get the "No Parenting Time or Contact Order" overturned, she would have to Ex Parte a judge and convince him to go against what todays judge ruled today. I don't see that happening any time soon.
After the judge made his ruling, she started yelling at him, saying that she was taking this to the media. I was really hoping that he would hit her with contempt, but he knows she's nuts.
Other than truly fearing that she might appear with a loaded gun and shoot my butt, I feel like a big load has been taken off. The kids were very happy when they found out the final results.
Now, I can finally concentrate on making it through this final week.
Thank you for your never ending words of encouragement.
Your friend,
Mike

Hi my friends,
This won't be very long, as I'm in a lot of pain. On Friday, the radiation nurse decided to use tape to hold down these clear wet moisturizing pads that was covering all the open sores and burns that are all around my neck and throat. This morning, when I tried to take them off, the tape removed several layers of grey cooked skin and now, most of my throat and neck is raw, bleeding and extremely painful.
My daughter tried putting Lidocaine over the sores to give me a little break from the pain. But it was only temporary.
These clear pads keep scabs from forming and it seems it's not healing because there is no scabs forming. The nurse said they don't want scabs because they crack and bleed. I think that's better than having open sores that the lightest brush of air hurts like heck.
I don't know what to do, last Thursday, I woke up stuck to my pillow, the sores had glued me to the pillow case and it took me along time to painfully break myself free.
It's hard enough dealing with the increased mouth and throat pain this last two weeks of radiation, but this is almost too much.
If there was a way for me to do a "self-induced" coma until they healed, I would!
The shingles are nothing compared to this.
Please, if you have any advice I could sure us it.
Oh Stacey,
My radiation starts at 11:00am, thank you!
Thank you everyone.

My only experience is with Aquaphor. Good stuff, but cannot know if it'd help with what you got going-on. Do know you can't keep the sores covered in non-sleeping hours: your skin needs to breathe
A coma is taking it too far, Mike. Morph is dangerous, but manageable. I was on for 4 of 5 consecutive weeks. Talk to your Dr. about. They gotta have a means of connecting, 24/7.

Hi Kent,
Good hearing from you again.
I was teasing about the "self-induced" coma. Only in my dreams lol
Keeping them uncovered is exactly how I felt as well, but then they put these clear moisturizing sheets over the scabs and of course the scabs came off leaving raw, painful and seeping sores.
The Aquaphor is okay, but it covers like a bandage as well, as it is very greasy.
I'm on Fentynal patches as well as Fentynal lolly pops, which makes me loopy very quick, but unfortunately doesn't effect the pain level.
I'm sitting here with goose bumps all over my body, as my neck and throat feels like someone cut the skin off with a knife.
I hope someone has some experience and advise from going through this kind of thing, but I feel sorry for them if they did.
Take care my friend and thank you.

Is there a wound care team at the hospital?
The rad nurse told me to let the scabs/exudate form and not touch them. HOWEVER The wound care team(who ended up being right) told me to remove the scabs as the skin would never heal with the thick layer of dead tissue and exudate on them.
I also stuck to the bed and lost a bunch of skin to the pillow case. When I was at work I used telfa non stick pads..BUT since ALL of the skin was raw, I had to keep the telfa in place with coban wrapped around the whole neck.
Caution telfa pads do NOT breath and could cause infection if left on too long.
I would recommend strongly that the people who work with bed sores at the hospital or home health take a look at your neck.
When the wounds are covered up, they could get infected. There ARE dressings that breath, so the wound is covered (amazing how air blowing does hurt)but are still protective. Please see someone tomorrow after your rads.
Let us know what they said.
My neck is completed healed..its discolored and has large spots, but it is in one piece.
I will do a cheer for you tomorrow at 11 (mountain time)

Never, ever put adhesive anything on burned skin - EVER!. Let the Dr know and ask never to work with that nurse again until after she attends nursing school.
I have a similar issue with bleeding around my surgery scar and the nurse SPECIFICALLY said ABSOLUTELY no adhesive around burns. Instead I got this stuff called silver sulfadiazine Cream and they lather that on *unless* I'm being radiated. This stuff is pretty good and is far better than ripping dead skin off a burnt neck. Wow sorry that happened to you Mike.
Best,

Makes you wonder where they got there schooling from, I would love to pull the tape off of there skin for once and see if they like it, maybe then the next time they would be a little more compassionate when sticking or removing any type of tape.0 -

As you go for your last treatment today I just want you to know you will be in my thoughts and prayers.
Hi Mike, the silver sulfadiazine is good stuff, it's used specifically for burn patients....
Thinking of you today, and hoping you are near the end of this regime', onward and upward buddy.

I was wondering how you are doing knowing your last treatment was Monday. It will take a few weeks for things to start to heal as the body needs to purge out all the bad stuff they have been giving you to kill the cancer.
Take care my firend
hope you are doing ok, and just resting.0 -
