So~ tomorrow I see the oncologist, as I do every six months. Even after 7 years, the nervousness and the "what if's" loom large. I had my labs drawn on Thursday, and results of course will be given to me tomorrow.

My sweet Reggie is having knee surgery on Thursday; he had miniscus surgery almost 20 years ago, but it is way past time for him to have it cleaned, and hopefully he will get some more good years without having to have his knee replaced.

Then on Friday, I am going to the funeral of one of my icons, and neighbors, Fess "Davey Crockett" Parker. You may not know that he was a 2 time cancer survivor, and the Grand Mrrshall of our Relay For Life...a nice, nice man. I once wrote a letter to our local newspaper, decrying the unfair treatment and prejudice shown to the Native Americans in our community, and he found my phone number and called me! He left me a voicemail for me to please call him back, and when I did, he told me how much he appreciated what I had written in defense of the Natives, and that he whole-heartedly agreed! His voice was still the same strong voice I had come to know and love from the Disney-Days. He will be missed by so many here in our Valley; I cannot imagine how his son and darling wife are holding up.

So, that's my week in a nutshell~ in case I don't get online too much this week, it's simply because I have a lot going on! But as always, I think of you all!

Hugs,
Chen♥

    Hi chen!
I want to wish both you and Reggie luck this week. Obviously, I understand your nervousness for your 6-month appointment, but I know that all will be well. With both of you. My condolences for your wonderful friend who passed away. It sounds like he lead an active life and impacted many around him. Hugs and love,

    Claudia, I hope tomorrow
Claudia, I hope tomorrow brings you relief for another 6 months. Also, wishing a successful knee surgery for your sweet Reggie. He does have one of the best and most caring nurses on this board to nurse him back to health. I, too, was a big Fess Parker fan and was saddened to see that he had passed away. I didn't know that he was a 2 time cancer survivor. You're right, he will be missed.

    Claudia,
That's a lot to deal with all in one week -- please keep us posted on how you and Reggie are doing, and please be extra gentle with yourself this week.

    Traci

P.S. Does it make me a bad person because I chuckled a little when you said that Reggie is having his knee "cleaned"? I'm picturing the Tin Man in The Wizard of Oz, with that squirt bottle....:-)

    You know we will all

    Claudia

You know we will all be crowding in that office with you, holding your hand, rubbing your shoulder and supporting you. And we will be there with Reggie and you, holding each of your hands.
I was a big fan of Fess Parker and remember when my brother got a Davy Crockett hat for Christmas. I wanted one too, but had to satisfy myself swiping his when he wasn't wearing it. He was a good actor and I think I probably saw him in most everything he did, Westward Ho, Davy Crockett, Daniel Boone, Old Yeller and well many more shows. Wasn't he married for 60 years or something like that. When I read he died, I remembered that you had said before he was a neighbor.
My prayers will be with you this week and always.

    Oh my
I totally missed the Fess Parker significance. I thought he was an elderly, kind neighbor of yours. Please forgive my ignorance. We're here for you, Chen.

    Mimi,
I think that Fess Parker is a name that is more familiar to we "older" folks. Not sure that many of you youngsters would recognize his name. His popularity on the screen was more in the fifties and sixties and you were not even born yet so it is understandable that you thought he was just a dear friend to Chen. How is work and the film school going?
And Traci, wasn't it an oil can, but I loved the visual you created. You make me laugh all the time. I love your hair experimenting. Have you posted any pics?

    Stef,
Thanks for excusing my cultural gaff. I knew the name was familiar, but I just couldn't place it. School is going great and this weekend I was out shooting footage for my first documentary. It will hopefully be a short piece on a local DC band and their quest to qualify for a music festival that could gain them major exposure. It was fun and exhausting. But getting back to my "real" job seems like such a downer, you know? Plus it is raining cats and dogs here in DC. Thanks for asking! Hope you are well. I look for your posts whenever I'm on.

Chen, wishing you good news this week and good results for Reggie as you both go thru these tests and procedures. Tell Fess Parker goodbye for all us. He seemed to be one of the nicer movie stars, and his kind is becoming rarer all the time.

We will all be sending back some of the love and support you have always so generously dished out to all of us as you face your challenges this week.

Take care of yourself and dear Reggie. Hope all goes smoothly for both of you and that Reggie's recovery is swift (how could it not be with the best nurse in the world by his side?)

I've also heard wonderful things about Fess Parker from others, but didn't know he was a cancer survivor. That just makes him even more special, doesn't it. The world is better for having had him in it.

    Take care,
    Cindy

    There is absolutely NOT a
There is absolutely NOT a better group of women anywhere~ if you all had any idea how many times you make me smile, and fill me with hope and courage, you would be amazed!

I go to my onco appt bostered by all of your good wishes, I WILL take good care of my Reggie, and as for Fess Parker? Oh my...he died peaceably bless his heart. Literally he simply stopped being alive. The sad part, aside from the obvious, is that he died on his darling wife's birthday...can you even imagine that? They had been married 50+ years, and she is a lovely woman. They have a beautiful hotel 3 miles from me, and on Thursday nights they hosted an open mic night with jazz/standard singers showing up to sing in a most relaxed setting. For those of us here of a "certain age", even his old co-star (who played the Native American) Ed Aames was there once!

So thank you for who you are, and who you allow me to be. You have all made me a better woman!

    No, Thank YOU!
I joined this post in January and you have always been there, for me - for eveyone. I have learned so much from you and have enjoyed your warmth, humor and wisdom. Also, I am a lady of a certain age and, golly, do so enjoy walks down memory lane - Donovan, etc. And now, dear Mr Parker and Ed Ames -Your 'cup runneth over'! I can even hum a few tunes from the Ames Brothers, though, I have to admit - my mom sang those to me.

Fess was my first tv crush
My husband and I talked alot about the passing of Fess Parker. We are of that age when Disney productions were in their prime. I loved him as Daniel Boone and Davy Crocket. I was quite young, I begged my parents for the hat, holster, vest etc and finally got the vest and hat. Dad drew the line on the belt, powder horn and guns because "little girls don't wear such things" I used to trade with my boy cousins to use their parts of the outfit. He was my first "ideal man", later having crushes on other tv stars: Guy Williams (Zorro), Johnny Weismuller (Tarzan) and Roy Rogers. LOL, boy does this bring me back to a more innocent time.He sure will be missed. Hope R's surgery goes well. Thanks for the walk down memory lane.

    Thinking of You, Chen
Claudia, I will be thinking of you and Reggie and praying for clean scans, tests, and excellent results for Reggie's knee surgery. What a week you have.

Also, thank you for sharing your experience with Fess Parker. I, too, remember him well from his Davy Crockett years. He was young and handsome, with that wonderful voice you mention! I will send up a prayer for him and his family. Thank you for letting us know what a wonderful person he was.

Awwww..sweet mimi! I simply loved how it wasn't obvious to you ( and why would it be??) that Fess Parker was more than my "wonderful friend who passed away"! He was that indeed, but as you have been reading, most Baby Boomers have that same feeling! And, I am so thrilled that your film career is still off and running, and that you are truly doing things you love! That makes the 9-5 portion of the day a bit more bearable, doesn't it? And just think, any day now you will be seeing the cherry blossoms! Ahhhhhh Springtime in DC! Lovely!
