Jen,
Sorry to hear about
Jen,
Sorry to hear about your sister. I am a one year survivor of stage IVA cervical cancer and I can understand her feelings of solitaire. I have sought others at my stage without success. But I plan to be a success story...so tell her to stop by and chat. There's alot of support here.0 -

hello
I was wandering around the discussion board, I am usually on the uterine cancer discussion area , but found this and this post, I have stage 4 b grade 3 endometrial cancer, uterine cancer that grew to the abdomen . have been looking for survivors and success stories,
right now at the moment. I have no cancer detected after historectomy and 6 rounds of taxol , andromisin, and cisplatin (sp) , doc says that most of the time it recurs but , "most of the time " not all the time so that gives me some ray of hope, been up and down about this. stopped me dead in my tracks, as I travel for work all summer long and caught the cancer 1 week before I was to go out for the summer!
what chemo have your docs have you on? 1 year! that is a long time to be on chemo!
I will be praying for ya ,

HI, SORRY IT TOOK SO LONG TO ANSWER U. I HAVE STAGE FOUR UTERAN CANCER. I HAD A LARGE TUMOR THAT WAS TAKEN OUT IN SURGERY. I WAS IN ICU FOR TWO DAYS AFTER THAT I WAS TOLD IT WAS DUE TO BLEEDING AND BREATHING PROBLEMS. THEN AFTER THAT I WAS DIAG. WITH METASTATIC UTERINE SARCOMA. MY DR. WOULD NOT TELL ME HOW LONG I WOULD BE ON CHEMO BECAUSE HE SAID HE DID NOT KNOW EXACTLY. THEN LATER HE TOLD ME PROBABLY A YEAR. I HAVE BEEN DOING CHEMO ONCE EVERY MONTH SINCE LAST APRIL. I ALSO TAKE A PILL CALLED FEMARA EVERY DAY.
BY THE TIME THEY FOUND MY CANCER ITS WAS PRETTY BAD. I LOT OF THE THINGS THAT HAPPEN TO ME DURING THIS I DONT EVEN REMEMBER BUT MY FAMILY HAS FILLED IN A LOT OF THE BLANKS, LIKE I DIDNT EVEN KNOW THAT I WAS IN ICU TILL A FEW MONTHS AGO WHEN MY SISTER TOLD ME. I HAD THOUGHT I WENT TO SURGERY ,THEN TO RECOVERY, THEN MY ROOM BUT NO, I WAS IN ICU FOR TWO DAYS. I WAS IN SURGERY FOR A VERY LONG TIME BECAUSE OF THE BLEEDING THEY COULD NOT STOP IT. THEN I HAD BREATHING PROBLEMS ALSO. I WASNT TOLD ABOUT HOW BAD THE CANCER WAS RIGHT AWAY. I WAS TOLD I HAD CANCER, BUT NOT HOW BAD IT WAS UNTIL I ASKED, WHICH WASNT TILL A COUPLE OF DAYS LATER. THE DR. TOLD MY FAMILY THAT I WAS IN SHOCK, AND NEED TO PROCESS WHAT WAS GOING ON AND THAT HE WOULD TALK TO ME WHEN I ASKED HIM AND HE KNEW I WOULD BE READY TO HEAR ABOUT IT IN DETAIL WHEN I CAME TO HIM MY SELF AND HE WAS RIGHT .
THKS FOR ASKING AND I APPRECIATE VERY MUCH YOUR PRAYERS.

There are many of us
Kim,
There are many of us survivors out here. Don't go believing in old statistics. We are all unique and don't fit into those little boxes. First, ask your doc questions. Don't guess...are you a stage 4 or not?! You will scare yourself silly otherwise. Stay informed. The more knowledge you have the more powerful you will feel...and you need that right now. Also, post in the uterine board. There are many wonderful women there who have been through what your are experiencing right now...and are survivors!!!
Sorry that you've joined the ranks. Good luck with everything!

I'm new to this board because my wife was just diagnosed with Stage iv b cervical cancer. She had a hysterectomy 3 years ago to remove the cancer which as stage 1 and she was cancer free up to a year ago. We are devastated.
Any updates on your progress would be appreciated.0 -

Kim, I think the worst thing to do is too much reading online as far as statistics. They scared me as well. I was diagnosed at 39 with stage 4a cervical cancer. It was too far advanced that they wouldnt do surgery. My tumor was protruding into my bladder, so I had to have a neuphrostomy bag put in on my right kidney as well as a leg cath. Did chemo and radiation and high dose radiation. I just celebrated my 1 yr of cancer free on June 29. Do not let negativity into your head. Positive people and a positive frame of mind along with treatment is the whole battle. Are you going to be sick, yes. Are you going to wonder from time to time "why me?" yes. The questions that you ask yourself sometimes cant be answered. Everything happens for a reason. I believe my mother had cancer to teach me how to deal with it. Maybe I can pass that forward and inspire someone else not to give up hope and become "statistics"0 -

I agree that you can scare yourself by looking too much into statistics. I get asked all the time what stage I'm in, I skirt around the question because I don't want to be treated like today is going to be my last day. Yes, realistically I know the odds are now against me for a long life (I've gone three rounds with adenocarcinoma), but I'm just the type of person that won't give in. I look in the mirror and tell myself all the time "Yes, the cancer will get the better of me someday, but it's not going to be today."...and I go on with my life. As a matter of fact I feel like a much stronger person now because of all that I have been through. My body is worn and scarred from multiple surgeries, but alive still I am!0 -

I am here in Texas and was diagnosed with 4b cervical cancer with liver and lung mets. Tell her we need to keep in touch!
I was diagnosed on my birthday, April 19th. Started chemo on May 6th. Did 6 rounds of Cisplatin/Taxtere ever 3 weeks. Did a PET/CT about 3 weeks after my 6th chemo and it showed ZERO cancer activity. The main tumor is gone as well as the mets throughout my lymphnode which were lit up from my groin to my collarbone. By physical exam they feel nothing but what they think is just scar tissue. I am currently going through radiation as it is standard protocal. I will have a total of 27 or 28 external daily treatments and then 5 weekly internal treatments.
As far as I am concerned, I am a survivor and will be one in my eyes and in my 8 year old little boy's eyes.
To each and every one of you going throught this ( I include all husbands and loved ones), You all are survivors. From the moment you are diagnosed to the the moment you decide to proceed with treatment, you can call yourself survivors. You all inspire me and give me strength just by reading your stories and quick notes. By writing quick blurps on the web for people to find, you are touching someone. Thnk you for reaching out!0 -

Curuk, I am 4b cervical cancer lymph mets. Scary beyond all belief! I am 31 years old, and was diagnosed with fibroids a year and a half ago, which was a big mistake! I am only writing to you because you said you are in Texas, and I am located just south of Dallas. Where are you getting treatments at? How are you dealing with everything? How old are you?
Just so everyone knows, I was diagnosed June 16,2010, and immediately started on chemo and radiation at the same time. I did five weeks of radiation with a booster of radiation for an addition 5 days, which was followed by 4 sessions of internal radiation (not fun). I had a PET scan yesterday, and a preliminary CT showed everything was looking good, so much that the person who read the scan said it looked like i had had surgery, which I have not yet! I find out tomorrow the results of the PET...but no matter what I am here for the long haul! I have three kids, ages 6, 4, and 3 that need their mommy!!!! Good luck to everyone! If you want to vent or talk about your thoughts I am here everyone!!!0 -

YOU GO GIRL!!! I like your ATTITUDE Sorry to see you posting here. I can totally understand what you are feeling/going through. I have also had a number of scans where the radiologist reports that sometimes I've had a hysterectomy, other times I have ovaries, sometimes not...etc., etc. I thought these people were supposed to have gone to school for this!
GREAT news that your preliminary CT is good...hope your PET results back it up!!0
