2nd round of chemo...new use for duct tape
Tomorrow is my 2nd round of chemo & I guess I just need a few prayers. My 1st round was pretty tough starting with the 2nd evening. I had the Big D really bad...chemo was on Monday & Saturday evening my husband had to take me to the ER for dehydration. Just feel like I've somewhat recovered & it's time to go again. I'm hoping I'm a little better prepared this time, but I'm still very nervous. Still trying to decide whether to go as a baldy or cover my head...I'm ok with it, I'm just not for sure everyone else can handle it.
After tomorrow, I'm half-way finished...YEAH!!!! Thank you all for being there!!!
Huge Hugs,
Tina

Tinabug,
I, too, had the big D during my chemo sessions. I drank plenty of gatorade and chrystalite. I also stayed on a very bland diet. They say when you have the big D you should be on that BRAT diet. Bananas, rice, applesauce, and toast. It does work. I also ate macaroni.
As for the hair..... I never shaved my head. I held onto my little whisps of hair and covered it with little caps. The caps kind of looked like surgeon caps.
Good luck tomorrow. You will get through it.

Thanks for the support. This time I am sticking to the BRAT diet completely. Unfortunately, gatorade, water, & everything else sent me running last time.
I can't believe I have to leave in 4 hrs & still can't sleep. I even took a nerve pill hoping it would help with sleep...no such luck. Oh well, last time, I fell asleep during the benadryl so maybe I will this time.
Once again, thank you!!!

Good luck!
It will go fast. I ended up in the hospital after my first round of chemo with a sinus infection... it was when the swine flu outbreak was around, so they put me in the contagious room, ran all kinds of tests... but it was a sinus infection. Took forever to go away.
My hair started falling out in the hospital... when I came home the kids, my hubs and I cut it to about an inch, then I put my wig on.
Now, I will have my last chemo March 3! I'm so excited.
It got easier. Talk to your doctor, they'll call in meds, whatever you need. My problem is that I'm so stubborn, I just wouldn't call. But, now if anything is weird, I call right away and they fix it for me.0 -
Wow, halfway through...
Wow, halfway through... that's great! It really is amazing how fast it goes, but it's just the little bumps in between that we have to get over. Hope you can get some rest during chemo and afterwards. God, I just love to sleep anymore, lol. When we do all the things we should do to keep the side effects away, it usually helps a lot. Praying that you do well this time! Let us know if you braved it and went bald
Hugs, Mar0 -
Tina, I'm thinking about
Tina, I'm thinking about you. You are probably getting your second treatment as I write this. If you read this, please remember to drink as much as possible. I read where you ended up in the hospital with dehydration the last time. If you can't drink water continue to search until you find something that works. It's very important. My thoughts are with you!! Take care and let us know how you're doing.0 -
Tina
I'm sending prayers and positive thoughts your way that this round will be easier for you.
Halfway done - yea!!!!
Get lots of rest and let us know how you're doing when you can.
Take care,

Hang in there, Tina
Just finished chemo 4 a week ago! Yay! It's amazing what we ladies can endure. We're pretty awesome, considering everything. I didn't have the big D, as you call it. I was the opposite - the big clog! So brat was out of the question for me - and Benefiber was a regular treat. Always takes me about a week to feel normal again - I'm there now and beginning to care what the house looks like - and noticing dust on the tables again! It's like beginning to wake up after hibernation.
Keep hanging in there... Good attitude, patience, and prayer are critical for dealing with this as far as I'm concerned. I pray you tolerate this treatment well and recover quickly.

you can take benefiber with D or C. It helped me. plus Immodium. I know what you mean, it seemed whatever I took stimulated me to go. but I kept it up and used the benebiber and immodium. I was dehydrated and hospitalized to0. just once. try rice it seemed to stop it for me unfortunately if i ate alot i got the big C which is my current problem off cheme. Good thoughts to you and hope it goes more smoothly this time.0 -

I had such horrible diarrhea that I wound up in the hosp for 4 days. BRAT diet was a joke, I couldn't eat anyway, over the counter stuff didn't touch it. I couldn't leave the house without my Poise pads and complete change of clothing. Before my third chemo the doc gave me a Rx for the generic of Lomotil. It worked great! Check with your onc. It saves you from dehydration, a real biggie, but also relieves all the cramps etc.
Good luck tomorrow, I'll be thinking of you.

Yea 1/2 way!!
Well you have finished you 2nd treatment and now half way done. That is awesome. I will be praying for you. I had trouble drinking anything my first time around, so I munched on ice chunks. So my might try that if you have drinking issues. My 2nd treatment, was totally different then my 1st and not sure what to look forward to on my 3rd one coming up.
Let us know how you are doing and get lots of rest.
BIG HUGS For YOU

but for me the T stands for Tea. I ate banana and apple pieces, little by little.
Rice in chicken soup. and sips of tea. Go slowly and constantly. Good luck, Hope something we say helps. Everyone is different, so what worked for me may not for you.
But prayer works and I'll put some in for you.
God bless,

Halfway finished with chemo & new use for duct tape
Dearest Sisters in Pink,
I made it through my 2nd round, which means I can see the light at the end of the chemo tunnel. Thank you all for your kind words & your wisdom. I feel pretty good, just exhausted from being there 6 hrs, mean as a rattlesnake from the steroids, & I might as well get a fork & sit in front of the fridge. I was so thrilled I had lost 1 pound, but I'm certain it will return by the morning. Last night, I made chicken & dumplings thinking I might enjoy some comfort food tonight. I'm glad I did, because I was so right...I ate them, along with brownies, Girl Scouts thin mints, yogurt, a pork chop, a huge chocolate covered strawberry, a banana, & some peanut butter. Not to mention, I had crackers & (2) Sneaky Pete hot dogs during my infusion. I have never been so hungry in my life. Can you say "here little piggy, piggy." LOL. Tomorrow I start the BRAT diet & immodium per my doctor. I'm drinking tons of water.
It's been very cold in Alabama(snowing tonight), so I wore a hat to keep my bald head warm outside. Once we got to my appt. this funny, sweet, lady asked if I was bald so I took off my hat & she did the same. She was a hoot & gave my husband & I several laughs. She was telling us about cooking collard greens & hamhocks(it's a southern thing.) Anyway, I didn't put mine back on, because the stubble makes it hurt really bad. It was rather liberating, I may no longer have tata's, but I still have guts. Last night, I took the lint roller to the stubble hoping to pull it out & it did an ok job. However, my husband suggested duct tape, as a joke. I tried a small piece of it & it did a great job. Being from the south, I've always heard duct tape can fix anything...it made my head feel a little better. I know that could probably be something Jeff Foxworthy would use on his show.
I may be sick as a dog the rest of the week, but I will continue to fight like a girl until I kill the beast. I just can't thank ya'll enough for being here for me!!! God, my friends, my family, & my Sisters in Pink will help me beat cancer & survive chemo.
Sorry, I typed a book, but last time I was so sick, I didn't get on for almost 2 weeks.
Huge Hugs & Much Love,

Tina, happy to read that you made it through one more, meaning your half way there, correct? It sounds like the steriods they gave you prior to your chemo drugs kicked in and increased your appetite. I guess that's a good thing, too, so now you can sleep with a full tummy. Wishing a good day for you and no "Big D". Take care and post when you can!! You are one step closer to the finish line.0 -

Hope this one goes a little easier for you Tina. I lived on mashed potatoes at first. Also had a lot of problems with the big D, but never so bad that I had to go to the hospital with it. Try the prescription someone recommended.0 -

Tina you are a girl after my own heart---that chicken and dumplings, brownie, cookies etc. sound so good. Tomorrow will be a week that I had my last chemo, and I went from constipation to the big D. I fianlly got out of bed yesterday, and I'm also being a 'BRAT". Gatorade and immodium did help. In the past I've only had to deal with the big C. Not so this time.
After one week of h-ll I can proudly say that according to my scale I lost a whole 4 ounces,(LOL) and my tummy feels and looks like I'm now carrying a large cantelope rather than a large watermelon. \
I'm hanging in there right along with you. 2 more chemos to go for me. Lots of Hugs.0
