Too much snow
I can't open my doors to get outside so I'll have to go out a window in order to shovel off the porches so I can come back in through the door.
Looks like the majority of the 2+ feet of snow that we got this weekend fell during the night.
Heck only knows when I will be plowed out. My snowplow guy works another job and will get to me when he gets home which is later this afternoon.
I don't even think Jake and I can even snow shoe--I think we will sink to our armpits.
Hot cocoa, popcorn and a movie for later today.

Hi Margo,
We only got about 10 inches here, but the drifting is pretty dramatic. I live in an old farmhouse turned into apartments so there is someone to shovel and clear and I can get out if I need to. However last Thursday when I was out provisioning for this weekend the shelves were nearly bare especially for things like toilet paper and pet food. A Nor'easter for sure!

It snowed all night in Holland!!!
And now, it's MINUS 6 degrees celsius...about 21 degrees farenheit!!!!
I was out shoveling the driveway (imagine that...a gal from sunny So Calif using a snow shovel). It was VERY HARD work!!!
But the snow is lovely...I posted more pics...and I, too, have broken out the hot chocolate and the oliebollen!

Wow--I've been on the roof shoveling for 1 1/2 hours and only got 1/2 of it done. Going to rest a little and then get back out there. I have to rest my pec muscle where my port is.
Snow on the roof is up to my knees.
Light snow now.
Calling for another N'easter Friday.
Happy shoveling to everyone that has snow.

Oh my~ for years now, I have
Oh my~ for years now, I have thought as snow of "false advertising", being attractive only on postcards, paintings, and in movie scenes. California is now part and parcel of my being! Though I did love it growing up in Germany, (I realize now how my mom must have hated putting snowsuits on 4 kids,"whoosh-whoosh-whoosh" and I wonder how many gloves we lost throughout the years! Which reminds me, do gloves still get safety-pinned to a string and run through the arms of winter coats? Or is that a distant relic memory of my past?)
I hope you and Jake have plenty of feel-good movies to chose from! I am picturing the invention of shoeshoes fastened to armpits...not so much! LOL

Well, Chen, I know I used to crochet a chain and attach it to the mittens of my own kids, then string it through the sleeves of the jacket. I've seen kids walking around with mittens dangling so either they use strings, or yarn chains, or those little clips they sell for the purpose. I never found the clips worked well.0 -

Crocheting a string to attach to mittens~ awesome! I can remember puddles of melting snow on the floor from our boots and my mom not being able to get our snowsuits off in time when we had to "go" NOW! And saving snowballs in the freezer to bring them out in the spring! I remember when it would get cold enough to freeze, my brother and I would take buckets of water and pour them on the bunny slope near our house so it would freeze overnight into a slide-able, ice-laden hill! I would sneak my patent leather Sunday School shoes on under my boots and take my boots off so I could fly down that hill on those slickery shoes!
I remember my nose getting as red as Rudolph's, and my hands being so cold I couldn't bend my fingers. When I was about 8 years old I made a Christmas ornament ( Santa) out of half of a pair of old, red earmuffs. I am 60, and my sister still has that OMG beat-up ornament and puts it onher tree every year!
Oh my....isn't it a sign of really bad things to come when I can remember 50 years ago but have no idea where my cell phone is??? LOL LOL I am so doomed!

Glad to hear you and Jake are staying warm, Margo. Down here in Sprangburg, we have a mere 3 to 4 inches on the ground, but of course, nobody down here (a few of us excepted) has any clue about getting around in the snow. The roads were so greasy when I took Moopy in to work this morning that the Traction Control on her Highlander kicked in more times in 40 minutes than it has in the 4 1/2 years we've owned it.
The upside is that it looks more and more like Moopsy's big sister Jackie (aka Shopping Woman), who drove out to spend the weekend with us, may not be heading back to Nashville today after all... darn...0 -

slow down on that shoveling Margo--the staying in with hot cooa, popcorn and movies sounds very inviting, the shoveling does not. It is very cold in Orlando today and the 7day forecast is callling for more very cold weather. We are down to 32 degrees and that is cold for us. I come from Ohio, lived in Minnesota and Michigan so I know about shoveling and I sure dont miss it. This has been a very cold and snowy winter so far for everyone. enjoy the good part.

I've stopped shoveling. I did 3/4 of the roof and couldn't do anymore. Got muscle spasms in my low back. Took a very hot shower and helped relax them. Raining out there now so snow is VERY heavy and won't do anymore until Friday or Saturday.

Chen I've enjoyed reading your post. It was much easier 50 years ago...no cell phones or cordless phones...all the phones were attached to the wall -- making them easier to find. Remember "party lines" ? The young kids on here won't have a clue what that means...and just to remind you...it had nothing to do with having a party.0 -
A real meaning to being "snowed in"
Margo, I don't know where you live, but that's a lot of snow. You must really be in good physical shape to get to the roof top. Next time we get a "dusting" of snow and traffic comes to a stop, I'll think of you on your roof w/ the shovel. If we get 1/2 inch of the white stuff...schools are closed and I get to stay home. I've spent many night..looking out the window all night for that predicted snow...waiting to take my "snow day" from school. I'll be window watching again this week - 3-4 inches predicted for Thurs & Fri. Yahoo~0 -

You do what you have to do so the roof doesn't come into the house.
I'm in ok shape--wish I was in better shape. I wonder how many calories I burned today.
It isn't bad when the snow isn't so heavy.

For 1 hour of hand snow shoveling, it's 600 calories!!! Yea!!!

Margo, What a way to start the New Year! We don't have as much snow as you do, maybe 10-12 inches here in Boston. We have not been up to check on our place in Maine. By the sounds of it I won't be able to get into the driveway until May. A cuople of years ago the snow was up to the top of the roof on our shed. I know about shoveling the roofs of our friends have to do it to there garage in the big storms so the roof won't cave in. I will be thinking of you and Jake ( i bet he has a snow day tomorrow) I am hoping for the same here but I do not think I will get that lucky. Take Care, Nancy0 -

I will read your posts and your comments on whether you love the snow or not, if you will read mine about how I love the winters in Arizona and about my whining when it gets to 100 degrees and beyond in May. Yesterday I was late getting the dog out for his walk (noon-ish) and I was definitely sweating in my sweats!! Today, we hit the sidewalk at 8:45 and it was pleasant.
I will try to walk and get some exercise for all of you who are snowed in, although Margo certainly found a way to burn a lot of calories today! You go, Girl! On the roof with a snow shovel. Woo hoo!0 -

no snow here in Georgia but it has been very cold last night its was down in the teens with the wind chill. to day i went out shopping and the high to day was 24. with me having a problem with being short of breath i had to have my oxygen on the cold air was making my breath very short.a problem i all ready have when out of the house.0
