Since this seems to be a hot topic, Does anyone know if there's any research that compares results of alternative versus western medicine for treatment of aggressive cancers?

found all these site Googled-turmeric vs taxol
These mostly address how the two in combination, used synergisticlly, have a much greater success rate than when used alone, or when taxol is used alone. Turmeric does very well on its own. I needs to be heated and should most likely be used in conjunction with oil to be best absorbed. Look up articles on turmeric to find out that stuff. I mentioned this yesterday I think but, we have mostly UPSC and it for the most part both ER AND PR NEGATIVE. Taxol does have a modest response rate to those hormone factors. In conjunction with turmeric it's even better. Sometimes, honestly, I do feel like giving up here. I'm going to go get coffee and see if I can't buck my spirits some. Thank you Claudia
You are always so tenacious when on the hunt for something you are passionate about. Thank you. I wonder though how much research has been done on alternative vs. western. Like your decision to use nutrition vs. chemo etc. There needs to be read research on this!!! so that women have more hard facts that can help them with their decision-making.

What do you think about pushing for this with that new group????

    Your friend, Mary Ann

    Endometrial Cancer Advocacy GROUP
Claudia, Maureen posted this recently - this is what I referred to. Mary Ann

    Hi All:

I recently received a copy of the latest Gynecologic Cancer Foundation's Newsletter in the mail. It includes information about the newly-formed Endometrial Cancer Advocacy Group, and states that this initiative marks the first time that there has been a national endometrial cancer (EC) group whose purpose is to create awareness about early warning signs of EC and prevention steps, as well as to create a dialogue among women diagnosed with EC.

For more information, or to join the group, the Newsletter instructs you to contact Marsha Wilson, GCF's Director of Communications and Advocacy Relations at mwilson@thegcf.org or by calling 301-332-0117.

I thought I would pass this information along in case some of you might be interested.

    Happy New Year,

I am studying Simonton now and just started. Thanks Mary Ann for turning me on to this. I do believe you can change your beliefs and stress level through meditation which affects your immune system. We all have cancer cells in our bodies; our immune system gobbles them up. My Gyn Onc's husband (they are both married and do Gyn Onc together) told me that 30% of the time serous is "just gone" and no one know what's going on. But isn't that interesting?

I also think it is fascinating that taxol is from the Pacific Yew tree and has been helpful. Tumeric may have some value too and I need to read those books too.

Claudia, I love your passion for new ideas for healthy living. If you need to take a break from "us" I understand. Sometimes that is healthy too.

    Love and hugs,
    Diane

    Good Morning, Mary Ann
Well, here's something from MD Anderson site this morning. I know they have been investigation the effects of alternative vs western medicine. They also look at the using the two synergitically.

You know how I love the Anti Cancer, A New Way of life book, well, look at who their main speaker is:

Using Natural Defense in Cancer Prevention and Care
David Servan-Schreiber, M.D., Ph.D., renowned psychiatrist and researcher in neurocognitive function, cofounder of Médecins Sans Frontières (Doctors Without Borders), spoke at an Integrative Medicine Program Lecture Series special program on July 12, 2009. Dr. Servan-Schreiber is the author of the acclaimed book, "Anticancer: A New Way of Life", a New York Times bestseller translated into more than 33 languages.

What health behaviors can help to stimulate our natural mechanisms against developing cancer? What has been happening since World War II in societies of developed nations that has promoted a dramatic rise in the occurrence of cancer?

Using Natural Defense in Cancer Prevention and Care (58:24)

Read more about Dr. Servan-Schreiber's visit to M. D. Anderson in Focused on Health.
    ===
As a case in point, he is a prime example. He was told he was going to die soon and there wasn't much western medicine could do. He did some thinking, but mostly he thought that since someone had to be at the long end of the median curve, why not him. So, he went on a research search and found things that have kept him alive and well for many years. His book talks about the alternative approaches he has taken.

Also, the other huge mamma jamma I've spoken of before, by Dr. Boik, is all about what responses different herbs have caused cancer cells to have.

This morning, I was reading how positive the effect of exercise was on the longevity of those theoretically doomed by their doctors. It ain't over til its over. I suggest that all of you who have sorta given up, not you Mary Ann, I know you're a fighter like me, but for those of you who are feeling helpless, which is totally understandabale given the circumstances, and I do mean this in rather, but not really, tongue in cheek manner, what if while you're lying there waiting to die, you get one of these stupid books, start reading, and see if maybe you don't just change your mind about the death thing. Just the act of fighting, the act of not accepting that it's over has life lengthening curative powers, which you would read about if read the book mentioned above.

As I said before, I'm going more or less off line soon. I'll be checking back periodically and sure as hell don't want to find out any of you wonderful people just gave up and died. Think about something you feel passionately about. Now feel that passion in your gut. It's an actual strong visceral feeling. It makes you want to do something. That's what you need to feel with power to start doing everything you can, not just what your doctors say. If you have children, think about someone threatening your children, feel that power, that will to do anything to save them. Harness that power to care enough to save your lives. Just writing this has gotten me fired up again. I have never given up on you. sometimes you make me want to throw my hands up in the air and just walk away. I can't. I have to keep at it, even when some of you have asked me to quit nagging, I WON'T! Your life may depend on my getting through to you. Read my prior posts. Look for information that applies to your situation. You may be in the fight of your life. Get mad as hell and refuse to take it anymore.

Like I said, Good Morning, Mary Ann, and good long life to you all.

Love and kisses, your best friend, as only your best friend would risk losing your friendship to save your life,

    Claudia

Well, okay, your mom and dad would too.

No spell check this time. figure out the words

    Dear Claudia,
Your nagging is synonomous with CARING.

Thanks for the wonderful reminder about Boik and The Anti-Cancer book. These authors are reinformcing ALL of what my guru SIMONTON said in 1979. He researched "given up for dead" cancer patients and had great success with the guided imagery techniques he taught. And guess what!! He tells us we need to lose the extra fat - yes, even us with serious cancer. And he talks of ONE HOUR of exercise twice a week even if you are bed-ridden. Figure that. How do you exercise with a IV in you - he tells how.

So add this to your reading list. GETTING WELL AGAIN. But just don't get it and let it sit. This is a book you have to read and DO what is recommended.

Like Claudia says, never throw in the towel. The WORST thing we can do is give up the FIGHT. It sounds like Claudia and I could be co-presidents of the nagging and caring club - NCC.

Hope, Love and blessings to all, Mary Ann

    Cancer's Environment
Marie made me remember this. In this month's CURE Magazine (free for all of us cancer patients and an excellent publication) there's an article about how each of us are unique in many ways including the environment that our bodies provide to our cancer.

I think this fact alone validates the relevance of paying attention to all the things we can control - our diet, exercise, attitude, stress management, etc.

You can access CURE online also. Check it out at CURE.com

Thank you for posting this link- super helpful and concise. Have you by chance found any research that shows what you should be eating before you start chemo and what to eat during treatment to help make them more effective?

Amanda....please refer to the postings above (Jan 2 and the one on Jan 8 from Claudia)...The Anticancer Book is very good. You do need to let your oncology team know if you are taking any supplements when you start chemo as there are some herbs/antioxidents that interfere with the effect of the chemo drug.....

    Best wishes to you!!!

    herbs/antioxidents and chemo
Also herbs and antioxidents are processed through your liver and can cause liver problems while doing chemo. Please make sure you get a list of things you can and cannot eat/drink during chemo. I made the mistake of eating mushrooms and drinking tea during chemo and my liver function was low after my second chemo treatment. Take care of that liver!

    Thank you!
I actually just bought my mom that book last week- glad to know it comes recommended! We saw it in the gift shop where she got her surgery- hopefully we get it soon. That question, along with about thirty others- haha, will be asked during her follow up appointment with the gyno/onc. They are probably going to start asking my mom to leave me at home- haha

    Best wishes to you too!
