home after surgery
Had my surgery sat by prof dasgupta at guy's hospital london.
Everything good so far, spared both nerve bundles, the worst pain was the gas
the next night.I'd never had surgery before so was a bit anxious but really not too bad. Home today by train, easy enough if tiring
Having a slight irritation with the catheter when walking, seems to be when
moving my right leg (cath on left )Any tips for that?
cheers Mike,
p.s. sorry about the punctuation, cant be bothered

Sounds good
Hi Nick here my surgery was sept3rd of this year. As far as for cath tips keep it taped tight to your leg so it doesnt move too much. Also keep the tip of the penis well lubed(my doctor said use surgical lube as it is sterile)
Good luck and keep us informed, also drink plenty of water it helps a lot.

Mike,
Well welcome to the
Mike,
Well welcome to the other side! Glad you made it through. For pointers...push liquids, walk, walk and walk! Once you get to the BM point I found I had to put some paper right in front of my penis since some blood and stuff would come out there. Also use a stool softner.
Keeping the tip of your penis lubricated helps tons! Let us know when you get your final path report. Also on how you do with urinary control and once you get things going with erections.
Just be patient. It takes Time. I've been very pleased with everything. Thursday will be 3 months post surgery for me.

Hey Mike, I just had my surgery the day before you. I am using neosporin (antibiotic) around my cath and it is working well. I am using no pain meds now and feel great. I hope to get my path results and cath out on Friday... but may have to wait till monday. The other guys are right about walking and drinking lots of water. Hope your recovery is going as well as mine.... I have gotten a lot of good advise on this board. All the the best!

I also used the neosporin ointment. I actually found some that had a minor pain relief in it that I prefered over the second tube I bought that did not have the pain relief.

Welcome to the Brighter Side
Mike,
Good to see that you are home and the surgery is complete.
Here's hoping that you receive a fantastic pathology report.
I can't really comment on the cath issues, my dr used a Supra Pubic Cath and therefore there is no tube running through the penis. I have to admit that it sure made walking 2-3 miles per day immediately following surgery a non-eventful and easy experience.
Best of luck to you in your healing process. Follow the mantra of post surgery; drink, walk, drink, walk and repeat. Don't forget that following the post surgery diet and using the stool softeners also contribute to a much speedier and painless recovery.

That is the only nice thing about the Cath bag. You can see how you are doing.
I did a power walk with my wife and it turned redish. Keep walking but push fluids. The more water you can push the better.
Of course always check with your doctor or if you aren't getting any output in the bag or decreased output.

Thanks Larry,
It was still very red this a.m. so I rang the hospital.
Spoke to the nurse who spoke to the urologist who spoke to my surgeon:)
(This is how the NHS works)
He said I've overdone it on the walks and take it easier.
Sure enough, an hour later I'm a nice clear colour.
Also my GF is pick me up some neosporin.
Cheers,

I noticed the same
Hi Mike,
I noticed the same thing. I overdid it on my day after surgery. I think because I felt so good and went off all my pain meds the second day after surgery... I thought I could do what ever. Not so. But I have built my self up so that on my one week anniversary of my surgery.... I went for an 80 min walk up and down hills and had very little discoloration in my urine. I am also drinking 6-8 glasses of water a day. So I am emptying my bag a lot Yesterday I even went into work for 4 hours!
The neosporin is working great because that cath is a pain in the ****! It is coming out on Monday... only 2 more days! Hope yours clears up and your feeling real good soon!
All the best,

I also had to hold myself back because I felt so good after surgery. Its easy and not good to overdo it. I agree that walking is essential to recovery but not to the point where blood is in the urine.
Good luck in the future.....

How much water are you
Mike,
How much water are you drinking a day? I only had the pink and the red once or twice. It will get better! Try and stay away from the coffee, tea, soft drinks, etc. I just passed my 3 month mark post davince and have been very pleased.

Mike,
Boredom is a pain isn't it. I couldn't agree more about the need to do something. But you have to let your body tell you when it's time to move forward. Everyone of us heals at a different pace. Just human nature.
So listen to your body and you will know when to go to the next level. About the pink urine. Mine was pink up until I had my cath removed at 6 days. And then every once in a while for the next 2-3 weeks I would get a little surprised to see a blot clot or some other bit of nasty fly out into the toilet. So pink is okay, the really red is not.
Good luck on your continuing recovery and progress. Relax and enjoy the rest. It is amazing how quickly you will find life jumping up and making demands on you. There will be times when you would like to have that little excuse to say "don't feel up to it right now", and everyone would answer and say, it's okay don't worry about it.
Blessings for continued improvement,

I's been pink then red then pink today.

I really dont want to get the docs involved again till next Friday
when I get the cath out, just looking for a bit of reassurance.

I might be a bad example but my doctor gave me no restrictions as what to eat and drink even a few beer were ok but no more than 3 he didnt want me feeling good and screwing up the cath.
I drank lots of water but never gave up morning tea followed by coffee.
My urine was never red and only pink 1 time and my cath was in for 6 days and no problems since.
I would call your doctor if its still red after a few days just in case as we are all different and at this point it pays to be vigilant so you can have the cath removed ASAP.
Hope this perspective helps and wishing you the best....Nick0 -

I think it's
Thanks Nick,
I think it's getting less frequent.
I certainly feel ok, sleeping well and eating like a horse.
My gp is telephoning me tomorrow so I'll mention it to him.
My only concern is that nothing gets in the way of the cath removal.
Cheers mate,

The day that freedom begins for the newly "Prostate-less", getting rid of the old 'Ball and Chain".
Good luck man, take it easy and don't let anything mess with the truly liberating day of chucking the old bag and tube in the trash.
