We are here for you
sorry for the reason you are here but I am glad you found us - this site was a God send for me. I was a basket case (still am sometimes) but the ladies on this site have helped me tremendously. Listen to people like Zahalene who have been through it and survived it!! She is an inspiration and I have heard from so many others outside of this site - one lady I know has been 30 years clean since her mastectomy and there are so many more treatments available today. We will get through this - be brave when you can be and when you can't be, come here. We'll talk you through it.
Ruthie
P.s. I was having such trouble sleeping my oncologist prescribed adivan (spelling?) anyway, since I've been getting 8 hours sleep per night I am able to see things more rationally. If you have high anxiety, talk to your doctor and tell him/her you need something to help with it.0 -

Thanks for all the nice
Thanks for all the nice welcomes. Laurissa, I hope you have found strength, as I have, from this site. I am 57 years old and have family history and friends with bc. I have good support from most family and friends, but to chat with sisters that are going thru this right now is very comforting. I am limited on computer knowledge and am having trouble sitting for more than a few minutes in front of the computer and then the bifocal thing tires my neck and shoulders. I ended up having surgery to remove tissue that wasn't healing properly and that set me back, but on to recovery. The surgeon was able to save the extender. The final drains were removed this morning. That is a good thing. Thanks again, Marilyn0 -

I am so glad that you found and decided to post to the site. It has been my savior thru everything. All the women here are wonderful and always give the best advice and words of wisdom. Im 36 mom of three and was diagnosed in April. I had a double mastectomy in June and am going through chemo right now. Also in the process of reconstruction too. I was totally shocked and in denial when i was diagnosed. Since i already had fibrocystic disease in my right breast, i thought it was going to be the same in my left one. It turned out not to be the case. In the beginning of your diagnosis it seems like its nothing but waiting and not knowing what you feel you need and want to know. I felt like my whole life was put on hold and didnt know which way was up or what i was doing or going. Before you know it, things will be moving along. You wait forever it seems, then bam treatments start or surgeries start, more tests ect. It is a hard roller coaster, but know that you will make it. You will have up days and down days. Sometimes more down than up. Sometimes more up than down. I thought my children were dealing with things ok because we talk about it when they want to. My middle son is struggling right now, so i called cancer family care center and they are sending someone to his school once a week for him to talk about his fears of me going through this. Its important to keep a support system going. Its not always easy to keep it going, in fact, ive not been posting for a while, but ive also been very tired from chemo. Just know that you made a wonderful choice coming here. Im so glad that i did. You take care and keep us posted on how you are.

I have 3 grown kids, 39, 37, and 33. I can not imagine going thru all we go thru and also have to feel the effect on children. I am so blessed. It is so good to know that some of what we are feeling is somewhat normal. Sometimes I have wondered about myself. I have found that it seems there is so much help and support for patients and family. Take care. Marilyn0 -

Hi Kathy,
Welcome to this group of wonderful women. I hope you are able to sleep through this painful time. That was difficult for me as I waited and waited to find out what stage is was and what the treatment plan was. I was diagnosed in mid Feb and did not know for 4 weeks that it was stage 1. My surgery was not done until March 30th. I just wanted to get on with it so I could begin the healing. I did not realize how much of the healing would be emotional. This group has really helped.
By the way, if you are having trouble sleeping ask your doc for something to help you. There is a great book, "Just Let Me Get Through This" which I found on Amazon. It was written by a breast cancer survivor and explains step by step what to expect.
Good luck and keep us informed on your progress.

Hi Kathy, (((HUGS))). I also had cancer in my right breast, IDC. It was caught early on my last mammogram the end of June. I was beside myself. We had a Family trip planned to Disney World. I was so afraid I would mess it up for all of us. I am so thankful I had a great oncology surgeon! I met with him on July 24th, as soon as I saw him I had a big smile on my face, I told him I saw you on YOUTUBE, that's why i picked you, I knew you were the BEST. I think I imbarrassed him, when I said I woudn't trust my breast to anyone but him,LOL I wanted to wait till I came back from vacation the end of aug, he said NO,I want this out of you ASAP. He scheduled me for the following week, July 30th. I had the sentinel node biopsy with my lumpectomy, the node was clear, and I am ER positive and HER2 negative. now I'm facing hernia surgery on thursday this week, and then I'll be starting my RADS. Best of luck to YOU! You will be fine, we are all here for you.0 -
Welcome Newbies
It is a difficult thing we are going through - the waiting, the testing, the waiting, the surgeries, the waiting, the chemo and on and on. But each step you take down the path of recovery makes it easier. And as you get closer to the light at the end of the tunnel, and you are well again, it will have all been worth it.
I was diagnosed this April and it has been a whirlwind. But I have one more chemo treatment to go (5 of 6) and then radiation. I am getting closer and you will too.
Take care the both of you and welcome to the site.

One chemo to go......that's fantastic! I have never looked more forward to something than when my LAST chemo was coming up end of August...I just couldn't wait to get it over with...it's a real milestone in this journey. All the oncology nurses clapped and said "YOU GRADUATED!" When you finish, pat yourself on the back and "toot" your own horn. YOU DID IT! I will have my 13th of 33 radiation treatment tomorrow morning...I've even begun to look forward to them...the more I have, the closer I am to the end of treatment. It's been a long 7 months, from discovering the lump myself, surgery, chemo 'til now. Try to rest up as much as possible between your last chemo and start of rads.
I wish you the best!0
