I got my oncotype results back today!!!

Mine was either 2.5 or 2.7 staged at2A with no lymph node involvement. Invasive ductal.

Because of
the size of my tumor and the fact that I had invasive ductal(invasive meaning the cancer cells had actually escaped from my tumor.),I did have chemo-4 A/C treatments. But Calleen these are questions that you could ask your onc as well(have you had an appointment with an oncologist yet?).

I will ask him all kinds of questions.. also according to my path reports nothign spread outside the tumor it stayed to itself??

I thought invasive ductal carcinoma always meant that it escaped. That is why it is invasive and not ductal carcinoma. And, I thought that any tumor over 2cm usually had chemo. Boy, am I wrong. lol Good luck to you!

GREAT! Are you going to have radiation? Did you lave a mastecomy or lumpectomy, I forget. I was told lumpectomy you have to have radiation regardless.

Hi Calleen,

My score was 18 and my tumor was 1.8 cm node negative and estrogen positive.
I opted out of chemo as it would only improve my chances of reoccurrance by 3%.
Don't you hate all these important decisions!?

Oncotype Test Purpose
I was told by my oncologist that the purpose of the Oncotype test was to determine if a person would benefit from chemo therapy or not. The test provides oncologists with a tool to prescribe treatment tailored to a person's risk of recurrence. Those with high risk scores are prescribed chemo. Those with low risk scores are given hormone therapy only. I was in the clinical trial for Oncotype testing. It's called the TailoRx Trial. Unfortunately, I scored a 36, which put me in the 24% for recurrence. I was told that chemo combined with hormone therapy would reduce my risk to 14%. A 10% decrease in risk is significant.

This test is just one more advance from which we may all benefit. I, for one, am extremely grateful for all advances in treating breast cancer.

I'm so glad for all of you had such low scores. Congratulations!

I was with my Mom during her battle and saw all the effects of her radiation chemo and her death while having stem cell treatments. I just knew from the time I was diagnosed I was going to suffer the same fate. But for some reason I have been spared. Maybe It's the full circle thing and God decided to smile on me becasue of all the guilt I've carried on my shoulders since she died... What ever the reason I know one thing. I am Grateful to God for every blessing he has shown me along this Journey.. And the Wonderful Sisters here on this site who have shown such bravery...

Need to hear from someone like you
I am having a double mastectomy with immediate reconstruction on Oct. 5 (if my cold does not get worse). I am a young 63, got laid off from my job one week and diagnosed with cancer the next; but I'm over all the shocks and have had time to do appointments, phone calls and opinions. I have lobular in left breast two places and ductal in the other breast. I know the surgery is going to be long and recovery will be long, Can you tell me from your experience, what type of problems you ran into as far strength in your arms and shoulders to do the everyday things like getting stuff down from the cabinets, feeding the pets, and when you could drive. I guess I'm more worried about my independence than anything at the moment. I live alone.

Test score
Hi Marilyn,
My test score was 32. I had dense dose chemo and am now on Tamoxifen. Is 30 and above considered a high score? I've tried looking for more info and haven't found much.
Are you on Tamoifen also? Hope all is well!

So glad to hear your score came back low. Mine was less than a 1 and I did radiation plus the Tamoxifen. I had IDC 1.9mm, node negative and LCIS in the same breast. I was a stage 1 and a grade 3. Chemo was just not going to make that much difference in my treatment. I think you will feel more at ease after your appt next week with your new Oncologist. Please keep us updated. ♥ Pammy
