What do you do....

Well for me first and foremost I pray, I have a saying it is "PRAY HARDEST WHEN IT IS HARDEST TO PRAY!". Secondly I try to get out of the house, have someone take me for a ride to see some nature or perhaps the ocean, I surround myself with those who love me and then I LOVE to watch movies that make me laugh, silly senseless movies made simply to create laughter. I will be praying for you!
Hugs,

Yes,I
agree with RE-pray and try to be at peace knowing that God is truly in control! Get out of the house and enjoy the beautiful weather if you have it. Go see or rent out funny movies or chick flicks(I saw the movie Ratatouille when I first heard the possibility that I might have cancer-and I did-it got my mind off the fact for at least the duration of the movie!). Go pamper yourself.Sometimes when I'm feeling down,I go for a walk.
But then again,if you are feeling sick it might be a good idea to rent some movies(or have some one get them for you)and order out and enjoy!
Hope you are feeling better soon!0 -

here and I find so much comfort and friendship on this board. I also pray, watch movies, read, rest, garden, do the things you think you never have time for.

There's one thing that almost always works ... to get my mind off of myself ... and that is watching America's Funniest Home Videos. I know that sounds corny ... but I can watch some of those over and over ... and know exactly what's going to happen and I still laugh. A great stress-reliever for.

prv,
all these things help, but first I have a talk with myself and get some things worked out so I don't have to keep running through them time and time again.
FIRST...What is the WORST thing that could happen? Well, I could die...
Is that going to happen TODAY? Probably not.
Well then, put that thought aside and deal with the next possibility....
I could get reeeeeeeal sick...is that going to happen TODAY? Probably not....so put that one over there somewhere and let it lie for now.
Ok, what do we have left? I am not dieing, and I am not real sick. Soooo....I could do something positive today.
That's where the prayers and funny movies and chocolate pie and a good book and hot bath and ....whatever come in.
No it's not Pollyanna syndrome....it's just making choices that make me feel better....and I am ALL ABOUT making me feel better.
God bless.0 -

Nearly everyone has mentioned movies -- for me, there is no way I could fight cancer without Netflix.
I rent funny movies from them to cheer me up, but they're also great for renting entire seasons of whatever old tv show used to never fail to make you laugh: I Love Lucy, MASH, Frasier, whatever. And, if I'm feeling like cr** after chemo, all I have to do is make it as far as the mailbox to return and/or pick up something new.

Hi prv
I like to watch mindless tv like project runway or design star or survivor...stuff you dont have to think about...
I also like to do light exercise such as yoga or take the dog for a walk if I feel well enough to do it. Usually there is someone at the dog park and for me watching the puppy wrestle with other dogs makes me smile.
Try to keep busy and remember you can always come here and talk to all of us

I do what you just did. I write it out. This always helps a bit. Prayers are good. Writing gets it all out. The boards are where I write it out most of the time.0 -
In addition...
To all the wonderful suggestions already posted here...
And, as both Jackie/rjjj and Kathy/Kat11 have stated...
Always remember that when you're here - on this board - you are not alone. You are surrounded by fellow sisters in pink - all survivors. A few remarkable caregivers, too.0 -
One more idea
I agree with all the above posts. I try to have lots of ideas in my hat to pull out as needed. One idea nobody mentioned yet is ginger tea. I like green tea. One cookbook I had said you could add a few peeled slices (like two or three "nickels" of peeled fresh ginger) to green tea and let sit for 5 minutes or more, then drink. It gets more gingery the longer you let it go. When I'm patient enough to let it steep overnight, it gets gingery hot and I like it all the more. The cool thing about ginger tea is that it calms down the nervous nellies in your stomach. It works on car sicknesses, but also on mild anxiety. Make sure the doctor says it's okay for you, because this stuff is a kind of folk medicine. Most of the medical effects seem to be positive ones, but some folks are allergic to it.
Even if you can't do the ginger tea (great with honey and lemon too), do avoid the caffine drinks when you are upset. Caffine makes it harder to quit worrying and also harder to sleep. You don't need that when you are already upset.

This is what I do ...
I post .. I read, write in my personal journal, pray. I too am not working, so I have lots ..of time on my hands, not to mention that both my children have returned to school, 8/31.
I try and do something nice for someone everyday. Examples .. send a hand written card, something little. This helps me with my down in the dumps mood.
Today I thought that I would go and purchase a few pairs of cheap eye glasses .. take out the glass and would wear the frame inlieu of makeup - sounds werid, however, if we lose our hair ... eyebrown and eyelashes will go as well. As a make-up wearer, I am positive that I will not put any powder, cream etc on my eyelids .. afraid of the gems and dust getting into my eyes.. so I opted for various colors of eye wear to bring out my eyes without fussing with makeup.0 -
I am doomed I tell you, I am
I am doomed I tell you, I am doomed!!! As soon as I saw the title of your post, I thought of Anna, being so afraid when she went to Siam in The King and I...and she started to sing:
"Whenever I feel afraid, I hold my head erect, and whistle a happy tune, so no one will
suspect, I'm afraid!"
That and Maria singing about "Raindrops on roses and whiskers on kittens!"
It seems that the key is doing whatever it is that distracts us from The Obvious. Some of us pray, some of us cook and take food to neighbors, I collect food about to be thrown from a local bakery and give it to the desperate souls who live in the local parks, for those so inclined sex is a good stress reducer and sleep inducer, chick flicks and silly laughter movies are great...and then there is a long soak in a bath. I love that! candles, soft music, a glass of wine or chamomile tea, clean sheets and jammies; i love that. I also have my bedside radio on a Talk Radio station and I wear earbuds; when I listen to people talking and expounding on the state of the universe and what they would do if They ruled the world, and it fills up my mind . I hope any of this, coupled by what our other Kindred Spirits added helps!

I also agree with them. Praying can help anything! And, try to do things that you love to do or see someone you have fun with. Go exercise, get out, do something. Hope you feel better!
