Hi everyone,I am still waiting for test results.THIS LAST TEST IS TO CHECK THE CANCER THEY REMOVED WITH SURGERY TO SEE IF IT IS THE KING OF CANCER THAT WOULD HAVE SPREAD.That tells if i have chemo or not.the waiting is terrible. The thing is i had a caribian vacation planned for almost a year now.MY sister and 3 other friends are going.the dr,said if i had to have chemo i could have a treatment before i leave.but i don,t know if i just have radiation.i am thinking that i am going to go.and start treatments when i get back. Its only 2 weeks away.i am so tired of not knowing if i am going or not.my cancer was very early detection, thank God.I KNOW MY HEALTH IS MORE IMPORTANT THEN A VACATION.bUT I HAVE NEVER GOT TO GO ON A TRIP LIKE THIS AND WITH MY SISTER.It would be nice to go on the trip before starting treatments.what do you think i should do?Any advice would be appriatted.Thanks. PAT.

    Ask your oncologist or
Ask your oncologist or radiation oncologist or both. They are the ones that can say whether your delaying treatment for a vacation will hurt you. But, I doubt it will.

I say that if the docs say OK then go for it!I wouldn't think that 2 weeks from now will make that big of a difference!! Good Luck, Diane

Girl, if the docs say ok
Girl, if the docs say ok then go for it! That would be good for you to get away. It isnt going to hurt you any to delay treatments for two weeks.

    Hi Pat
I had aggressive cancer and my chemo had to be delayed for a wound to heal. My oncologist told me that I could have waited up to 12 weeks after my initial surgery to start chemo. I didnt have radiation.

I bet your doc will tell you to go for it. It would be really good for you to have a vacation before you start all the other stuff.

Pat .. like the other sisters in Pink
I say GO! If your onc and team, it's ok to go, then go and enjoy this vacation of a life time.

Take lots of pictures and treasure the memories.

    Eat, DRINK and be merry.

    Hi Pat,
    I'd say, the heck

    Hi Pat,

I'd say, the heck with it, go on the trip. But that is not good advice without your drs. knowledge and okay. If they give the go ahead---you go girl and have a fantastic time.

    Love and gentle hugs,

    Donna

I'm not a doctor to give you
I'm not a doctor to give you advice, but I would wait on the chemo and go on the wonderful trip. Can not see what 2 weeks delay would matter. If the is a delay in test results, they cancel Chemo.

    GOOOOOOOO
This is what my surgeon told me after I complained that it was taking so long to get on his surgery schedule......he meant it in the nicest way and that's how I took it......here goes.. "As awful as it sounds, Nancy, breast cancer isn't a "medical emergency." I said, "sounds good to me!" From the time I found the lump in March, biopsy in April and lumpectomy in May, it was the middle of June before I started my chemo and I just finished last week.......I had 4 treatments......I will start radiation sometime after the middle of September..........so you can see how each of these things were spaced.

If it were me, I'd go on the trip and have a great time! There are so many decisions we have to make when faced with this but this shouldn't be one of them.......I hope you have a wonderful time.
Prayers and best wishes to you
    Nancy

    GO!!
Last year my husband and 2 teenage children planned a trip to Sonoma , CA before i was diagnosed. We have very dear friends that live there. Our trip planning began in March, with the trip to occur in August. It was to be Sonoma,SanFrancisco and Tahoe in August. We live in PA and I was the flight Nazi to get our best airfare ever! Then came May. I was diagnosed and had bi-lat mastectomy in June. My goal from day 1 was to get on that plane! Even with the mastectomy I needed radiation. The drs were great about getting everything ready to start the treatments within days of my return. My plastic surgeon was also great to make sure I was ready to go as I had expanders put in at the time of surgery. I brought fun bottles of wine back with me to share with them all. That trip was the best medicine and gave me such a wonderful thing to look forward to. Now, as I'm trying to finish reconstruction, I'm being swayed by my daughter to plan a special mother/daughter vacation. As I write this, I remember what great benefits there are to special vacations. I encourage you to "take your medicine" and go if at all possible!! I think I take some of my own medicine while I'm at it!!

    Sounds like FUN!
I would go if I were you! Living life to the fullest has always been my motto, but even more so after I was diagnosed! Who knows how long we have to create memories with our family and friends? You want to make the best of it NOW! I'm in treatment now and I have the opportunity to go to San Diego for a few months. I'm going to transfer my treatment down there for that time period. I am so looking forward to visiting with family and friends that I haven't seen in 10+ years! I talked to my doctor about it and he sees no reason why I couldn't get the same treatment there, that I do here. I know that isn't the case with you, but when there's a will there's a way!

    Take Care and God Bless!

Enjoy your trip. I am sure
Enjoy your trip. I am sure that chemo can wait. But, check with onco first! Post pics when you get back!

    Pat--enjoy your trip....
It sounds marvelous! I did the same thing, years ago, when my daughter graduated from hs. Instead of a party, she wanted to go on a trip with me to the Mall of America. I postponed treatment, though my drs were not happy with me, and we had a great time! Three years later, I'm here to tell you about it :). Sometimes, there are more important things in life.

    Enjoy!
