How soon after a lumpectomy/radiation did you have a mammogram?

My oncologist and my rads onco didn't seem to want to push me, which is good. I am still sore, and, do NOT want to even think about a mammogram yet. How soon did everyone get one done? Thanks!

    Mamo
I had surgery in Feb. 08' came down with MRSA after the surgery, had that for 3 months with tubes hanging out of my breast, then in Dec. 08 had my mamo. I was scared, I thought it was really going to hurt, but it didn't. I was suprised. So my next ones coming up this Dec.

    Mammo after radiation
Last July I had a lumpectomy for early stage 1 breast cancer. Did not need chemo, only six weeks radiation which I finished the end of last October. I then had my first mammo after all that in January 2009. Had another one in April, then July and scheduled again for this October. I wasn't that sore and I really didn't find it that much more uncomfortable then having a mammo before breast cancer. All the best to you!

    Not sure
They want me to have one at the 6 month mark, but, I don't know if I will be ready or not either. They won't force me, so, I might just wait longer on mine.

    Hey Lex
I have been cordinating my trips out of town with all my Docs, so I will have my Mammo in November. This will be 5 months after surgery. I didn't have it done this month as I am still going through rads. They will see me every 3 months for 2 years, then every 6 months for 2 years, then once a year there after. I am excited wanting it done (I know, your asking am I crazy to WANT it done?) but I feel it will give me comfort knowing either everything is OK or if something else is found, it was caught early. I see my rads oncologist and
I see my rads oncologist and my oncologist every month still. They are keeping a good eye on me, but, they know I am still sore and not wanting a mammo very soon. I thought some on here had waited a year or so before they had one. I wish I could remember who they were. I just wondered if everyone was more or less 6 months or not. My 6 months isn't here yet, thank goodness!

    Not time yet
It isn't time for my mammo yet, but, they said I would get one at the 6 month marker. :(

And, maybe a MRI too, which I hated the first time. :(

    I had a mammo 2 weeks after
I had a mammo 2 weeks after a lumpectomy. It was not nearly as bad as I thought it would be.
I am a teacher so the doctors were trying to get as much as possible done before school started. The technician was really nervous about doing it, and so was I. I thought it might hurt so bad that I would cry, but it was not nearly so painful. Not sore afterward, either.

The purpose of the mammo was to get me ready for radiation treatments, which started the next day. Also, since it was only on one side, the time spent undergoing the procedure was brief.

    Wow
Tux......well done you. I am a total coward, my onco had given me loads of requisitions to have a mammo... I am just scared witless!. Anyway, my next appointment is december..I will get it done before then, even if I only get the 'good one' done.

Tux I can't believe your bravery, You have given me hope, thanks

    Mammo after rads
It sounds again like everyone has a different follow-up. I'm scheduled for January, my first mammo following a lumpectomy and 7 weeks of rads. My docs said to wait 6 months after radiation ends. I've got very mixed feelings about it - want to see what's what, but scared at the same time. Oh, well...

    Usually, it is 6 months

    first mammo

I had a lumpectomy in Jan 09 with 33 rads and had my first post treatment mammo last month--it was OK. I was apprehensive (duh!) but the tech was gentle the results were good and life goes on.

    Mammo
I have my first one scheduled for one month from today, Sept 24. I am petrified something will show up on it, even though my oncologist/pcp/radiologist tell me different. They are not in my head, only I'm in there and I'm scared. I still have the xrays from the last one, with the tumor clearly showing. I am completely healed from the surgery which was Oct 13 last year, so I'm not worried about the mammo itself, just the results. I know when the results show nothing I'll be much better, but "till then".............

I had my lumpectomy 1/21/09 ... started chemo 3/13 ... finished chemo end of May ... 3 weeks later started radiation and finished that 7/7 ... and I'm scheduled for my first mammogram and a bone density the first week in October. The oncologist wanted to give me time to heal from the radiation. Then I see my surgeon a week after the mammogram. I think I've also got an echocardiagram in there somewhere (since I'm on herceptin every 3 weeks) ... but I'm not sure.

    hugs.

That is what I am waiting on
That is what I am waiting on mainly. I haven't been done with rads that long. But, I still might push my mammo way back. I know they will be gentle, or, they had better be! Kind of helpless when you are scrunched into that machine. Can't really get out of it, now can we?
