Results Are Finally In!

I was literally closing the door to my home to go to the doctor's office (one hour away) when the phone rang. The onc's nurse called to tell me the results from the xrays were "negative", no signs of leisions or tumors. Then she said the onc recommended I go for an MRI to check the shoulder, rotator cuff, and upper arm area. I asked her when these results were actually available, and she told me "they were in our office Tuesday morning, but the doctor hasn't had time to call....he is a very busy man". Well, after going off on the nurse, I asked to speak to the doctor, and refused to be put off. After fifteen minutes on hold, he finally answered, and I strongly suggested to him how disappointed I was for not having heard from his office sooner, and how upset my husband and I have been after he told us he wanted to check for bone metestasis. The end result, I told him I was going to be changing to another onc in the clinic, and if he wasn't too busy, he could check my progress through my new doctor. I thanked him for his time, and knowing how busy he was, I wouldn't be taking up any more of his minutes. Ten minutes later I got another call, this time from the doctor direct, and he apologized for having kept us in suspense for so long, and said that sometimes he didn't think properly about how anxious his patients got over results of tests. Maybe this experience has "woken a sleeping giant", but I am not willing to go through this again. I will be changing to another oncologist, recommended by several fellow survivors, who is known for her compassion, and great bedside manner. Maybe her subordinate will learn something from her, and the next patient won't have to go through the "waiting game". Thank you all for your support. Just glad to have the good results, although I am venting at the moment. Hugs to all.

Oh Judy I am just beaming with happiness that you are okay and you are right to have put the docs foot to the coals so to speak. He is on oncologist not a gp, they deal with life and death each and every day and should not be callous to our need both physical and mental. I hope you new onco is more suited to you and a more caring person. I am pretty sure your old onco will think twice before neglecting others in the future.

Now go celebrate your good news and enjoy your weekend!!!!!!!

    THRILLED FOR YOU!!

    Good for You, Judy!
Hooray, Judy. More of us should do what you just did today--tell our doctors what THEY need to remember: that they are dealing with real people with real feelings and fears they can cause.

I've said it before: you are as sweet as a creampuff, but you are no creampuff. Good for you, and great news about the results.

Doctors don't think our time is important and they just don't realize how hard the waiting part is. It's the worst.

So happy for your great news

Judy, first congrats on the negative results! That's wonderful news, indeed. Second, I'm very proud of you for sticking up for yourself. That Doctor should know how anxious waiting for test results can be. More so if the results are for cancer for god's sake. I think you're doing the right thing.

You are my hero for the day, thank you for showing us all how to give it to a inconsiderate doctor.
Thank you for letting us know that the results were negative also. So happy for you.

I am sooooooooooooooo happy for you Judy! Your good news has made my day! When I had my last MRI, I asked the tech when the oncologist would have the results. She checked with the pathology department and they told her the next morning. So, I called the oncologist the next morning and demanded to know and wouldn't take NO for an answer. And, guess what? I got the results faxed to me that morning. We have to take charge of our own treatment. Continue in good health my friend!

First of all congrats on the great results!! Secondly, you are my newest heroine. I think there are still too many people who just go along to get along.

I'm fortunate in that I have a great surgeon. He called me while he was on vacation to discuss the results of the pathology report. I had a full day of testing (MRI, CTscan, labs, Full body scan) and I wasn't home an hour before he called me to say that everything was clear. He didn't want me to worry over the weekend. He also called me at 9 PM one night to tell me that he thought that I needed to be on a bone building medication and he called the med onco directly to talk to him about it.

Unfortunately, the med onco guy, not so much. It may be a problem with his office staff or it may be his problem (ultimately he is responsible), but I have to call for everything. Am I in the study (no). When do I start the femara (oh, its here waiting for you). I called about the bone building med. office knew nothing about it. So this guy may need to get booted to the curb. He's got one more week and then I go doc shopping.

Thanks for reminding me that we do not have to wait for someone else to "get around to" providing the care that we need and deserve.

    Love and Peace

    Way To Go!!!!!!
Will you go with me to MY oncologists appointment on Sept 1st??? I have never had any rapport with my Dr, and I have been seeing him for 7 YEARS now! The only thing he ever comments on is how I am still too heavy...grrrrr. I feel as if I am introducing myself to him every 6 months, and that if he passed me on the street he wouldn't have a clue as to who I am. I need your gumption! I am so proud of you for speaking up! I never seem to get that far...I just have the conversations in my head, and in my imaginary world I always am kick-**** assertive and worthy of standing ovations! But never in reality! LOL

Way to go~ I am living vicariously through you!!!
