Welcome home
Im glad to hear you woke up! See we told you that you would. I found myself wanting to sleep alot when i came home after my surgery too, because like you, i got no rest in the hospital. And by the way, take the meds if you need it. They arent going to hurt you if you do. Pain will cause you more anxiety and you need to rest now. Take it easy and im sooo happy for you that things are going so well. Take care

Calleen, glad everything went well with the anesthesia. I know how hard it is to not worry about it, but it really does seem like a few minutes even though it's been a many hour surgery. I refused the morphine the day after my surgery, because I thought it was giving me a wicked headache and an endless flush in my face. They finally gave me something else, since my rising blood pressure told them that I was in pain. Since I started on only Advil before I left the hospital, I think that I was better off in the long run. But, I have a very high tolerance for pain.
The change in both parts of your body is a lot to get used to, and it does take a while. I think that you'll find that the abdomen will be what gives you the most discomfort. I had my surgery three months ago, and I still have swelling in my abdomen. This was partly due to the fact that I had to have one of my drains taken out early because it was plugged. The drains are a real pain in the neck, but they are also very important.
Hope you're resting well, and will have the support that you need at home. Be sure to ask people to do things for you that will make your life easier. You'll gradually gain strength, but the first few times that you try to take a walk will be very difficult. The tightness in my abdomen was tough, along with my feeling out of breath with only a short walk. But, it gets much better quickly. At the end of the fourth week, even though I was far from recovered, I had to remember that after the surgery, I couldn't even get out of bed. This told me how much progess I'd made in a relatively short time.

I am so happy you are doing so well! I have been told that if you live with the pain it takes longer to heal so take the pain meds.
Be well,

Calleen...glad that you woke
Calleen...glad that you woke up... not that any of us had our doubts that you would... but I know that anxiety that can go with it... Welcome home.. isn't it nice to be able to climb into your own bed, in familiar surroundings...
Get your rest, and let us know how you are doing when you can... you will continue to be in my thoughts and prayers.
Gentle hugs,
~T0 -
Welcome home Calleen!
Welcome home Calleen! Glad it went well. I also had the tram flap. If you need to, take some tylenol for the pain. You'll be sore for a few weeks, but everyday it does get better. Hugs, Lili0 -

Welcome Home Calleen! Glad the surgery went well . I, too, had a tram flap. Although it is uncomfortable, you will do fine. I didn't use pain meds either. I was back on the tennis court in 7 weeks . It does get better. HUGS!! Cathy0 -
Na-na-na-na-na-!!! Told ya So! LOL
Whew~ so glad you came through with flying colors, and that you are now at home! I know better than to say you are "resting comfortably", but that will happen too. I know your body needs to rest and regain strength, so I will not make this a long post, but just send you healing thoughts and a big smile!
Hugs,

Hi Calleen
I knew you would wake up...we all did...and you are a stage 1... how good is that...
Now..Take your pain meds before your pain gets too bad...You will actually need to take more pain med if you let it get out of control and you dont want that...
Gets lots of rest and I am so glad the surgery is over for you
Hugs

Wonderful News
Calleen,
As with the others, I'm so happy to hear you are doing well and that this much is already behind you. Stage I is wonderful news.
Please, do as the others said and, rest, rest, rest. Like you, I avoid meds at any opportunity but this is a time to work with your body. If your body is in pain, it is going to have to work harder. Your body will need as much help healing as possible. Low pain and low anxiety will help to keep your healing on track.
Thank you for sharing your good news!

Congratulations!
I'm so glad that it is all over for you and that you woke up! Although the next several weeks/months aren't going to be a lot of fun, I'm glad that it is all over and done for you. I will be praying that you have an uneventful healing process.
I was supposed to have my left DIEP flap surgery this Tuesday but the doctor rescheduled it for August 25th. I was so anxious to get it over and done but I guess a few extra weeks won't make much difference one way or another. With the change in dates, I will be able to donate blood for myself, 'just in case'.
Keep us posted. I want to know what I have 'to look forward to.'
God bless,
Rita0
