Up, Down, Up, Down...I love you gals!
I called a campground in the area and asked about renting a cabin. I called my brothers and told them. My older brother offered me his RV (told me he's trying to keep my a** from getting too chewed up). Love my bro'. He told me camping was more "acceptable" than staying in a cabin, since my father knows that I love to camp (though I don't consider RVing it exactly camping). My brother lives about 3 hours from TN and will set up the RV for me the week-end before he comes down to visit with all of us and he will take the RV back home with him the following Sunday. A bonus: it's half the price of a cabin rental!
Anyway, the campground is about 20 min from my folks' home. I will bring Emmy and my hubby and we will have our first vacation together in 3 years! My husband will stay at the campground, during the day and care for Emmy (my father doesn't like him either). He's excited about going away for awhile. The dr suggested that a car trip, if I stop every couple of hours, was better than a plane trip-so this camping idea is really a excellent plan.
It's a win, win, win, win situation: my mom and I get to see each other, I get to spend time with my brothers, I can bring my dog, and can I bring my hubby. I almost forgot: and I can avoid my father as needed. If he becomes too challenging-which he will-I will return "home" to the campground with my mom in tow. My daughter, bless her heart, will stay home to care for the other animals and go to work.
Now, my first dr appt this week: More good news (well, mostly). The masses in my breast are inflamation of fibergrandular tissue and the mam picked it up. They were visible last year, too, but they were not painful. They are stable, I was told that the pain is normal, and that they are being watched closely (whew!). The lymphodema has worsened and traveled down to my rib-cage (quite unsightly) so I will need to wear an upper-body compression garment to reduce the swelling which will also reduce the pain. I will be scheduled for therapy as soon as a spot opens and after I return from TN. The nodes that I feel (especially by the auxillary scars) are normal, too. I thought so, but the pain was really becoming unbareable. The pain, was due to the increased swelling from the lymphodema. My onc visit is this Thursday when we will have a heart-to-heart discussion about medication.
A CLEAN MAM!!! Hmm, I wonder how much it would cost to rent a billboard on I-69?!
I doubt if I will have internet access at the campground, so if you don't hear from me for between July 22 and Aug 5th, you'll know why-I'm on the "peaceful side of the mountains," (minus my father, or course!).
Thank you, thank you, thank you my friends!

I'm so glad that things have worked out to allow you to visit your mom and have a vacation. We don't consider an RV as camping either, but I wouldn't mind trying it! Glad everything is sounding very positive compared to yesterday.

Sounds like a perfect solution. Relax and enjoy!0 -
dmc.......
What a great solution! And it will be a nice get-away for hubby & Emmy too!
I'm so happy that the mammo was clean! Yay!! Although I'm very sorry about your lymphedema issue. I hope that improves soon!
You will have to remind me when you are leaving, as well as when you will be back, because I can't remember my own address half the time!!
Hugs,

Sounds Great! I think it's all going to work out just fine0 -
It's good news to hear!
And a clean mammogram to boot!! Now lets hope your lymphodema clears up soon! Hope you have a great time with your family. That actually sounds much nicer-being in an RV at a campground in the outdoors with your hubby and pets. Sounds like a great haven!
Who knows,it sounds like it would have to be a miracle-but hopefully your dad will come around...0 -

Things working out
Wow. I am so glad that you've turned the family situation on its head and sat on it. It's really the self-advocacy and taking care of ourselves as well as we take care of others issue, isn't it? I am glad that you get to camp (kind of). I bet it is beautiful where you will be staying. Take care of yourself. Lynn0 -

You have definately earned a break!!!
And, all of the good news...it will be nice to get away from the cancer for a stretch.

Sounds like a great trip ... and the best part is ... YOU will be in control. You'll be able to come and go visiting your parents ... and if your father starts one of this rants ... you can just take mom and get in the car and get away ... either to your campsite ... or just out for a "girls" day.
Enjoy. You deserve it!
hugs.

Well, until the phone calls and the email this AM, I thought I had it all figured out. My father is angry with me again (or is that "still"). He told me that Mom is sick about this arrangement, too, though she will not tell me.
I already put down a $200 deposit, but I feel like transferring that to the cabin, or just not going.
Why does the man hate me so much? I am is only daughter. Shouldn't he be happy that I'm coming down? That I'm still alive?

Maybe he is angry at himself and you are a handy target. Don't buy into his issue. Your mother can speak for herself if she has a problem and it seems that everyone is doing well with it except your father. Go and enjoy and don't let him rain on your parade. Give mom a chance to say something and if she says it's fine--believe her. She may have issues with your father also but they are her issues. Just take care of you and hubby and do what is right for you.
