Sorry to say that Doxil is not working for me. This is my second round of repeating chemo. Took Taxol,Carbo last year. Diagnosed with Peritoneal/Ovarian. Was in remission for only three months. Put on Doxil, taking it now for four months, once a month and CTscan shows no improvement. Fluid is building up again. Side effects from Doxil is known as after effect which I am getting now.0 -

Hi Dinora
I just wanted to let you know that I had my first treatment of Doxil 2 weeks ago and did not have any side effects. I did follow the rules to a T as Bonnie suggested. I have to admit I was pretty worried also about the side effects but I had nothing, thank God.. I"ll keep you posted... My next treatment is June 9

Hi Dinora
Just wondering how you are doing with the new chemo drug? I am also stage 4 with a recurrence. Docs wanted me to participate in a clinical study at Natl. Cancer Inst. but it closed. Now the recommendation is for Gemzar and Taxotere. I have heard of Doxil but never been on the drug. Are you managing, at home or at the hospital? I hope to meet with my oncologist Wed., if I can I'll bring up Doxil and see what I can find out.
Good luck. I'm sending positive thoughts to you and all as we cont. to fight. Hang in there.

Hi Linn
Had my first session of Doxil two weeks ago. Was very tired and weak first week. I did not have any nausea. Last week was still tired but feeling better. The Chemo nurse told me that it would take 2 sessions to start having the hand and feet syndrome. I go for another session June 22, so will see then.

NEW CHEMO
Hi
Finished my second session of Doxil on June 22. So far no bad side effects, I haven't been as tired. I have been having hot flashes,Onc Dr said that was good because the estrogen was leaving my body. She said the cancer cells thrive on the estrogen, learn something new everyday. Go for 3rd session on July 13th then I will have a CT scan to see where everything is at.

Hi Dinora, glad it is going well for you ~ again I say stay on top of the side affects as most people don't get them until the 3rd or 4th dose. Said a prayer for a clear ctscan for you on the 13th. Hugs Bonnie
PS Yes estrogen is not good for the ovarian cancer and remember soy has natural estrogen.0 -

That's why I am on the anti estrogen pill for the last 10 months. It has given me a vacation from chemo.
Other glands produce a little estrogen, beside the ovaries.
Glad you are doing good on Doxil. That may be what I start next. Saundra0 -

You have gotten some really good advise from the women here. Make sure and follow thru with watching out for side affects. I had severe sunburn effect under my arms.It didn't get bad until my 4th treatment. Don't wear anything tight to cause friction.Good Luck!!

Hi
Thank you for the feed-back. I did not know about the estrogen levels. You ladies are so great, I need all the help i can get. I will ask my onc about the anti-estrogen pill. I have been very carefull about going out in the sun and heat, I live in Northern California and we are in a heat wave. This site has helped me so much.

My wife had 6 treatments of
My wife had 6 treatments of Doxil. Used ice on hands and feet while getting treated. After the last treatment her feet were dark blue then turning red, with large blisters. Looked like her feet had been in a fire. Her CA125 had stopped coming down, so the treatments with Doxil were stopped. These drugs affect everyone different, but the total effect of Doxil was hard on her, and the sad part is it did not work for her. She is on Gemzar now, and it has been hard on her also. We don't know what effect it is having on the cancer yet.0 -

Hi,
Has your wife been on Topotecan, it only works for 30% of OVCA patients, but it worked great for me for 10 months before my CA125 began inching up.
It's an easy chemo drug to tolerate, if she hasn't been on it yet, check with her oncologist.
It scrambles the DNA in the cancer cells and prevents them from reproducing and they die.
Good luck.

Will keep Topotecan in mind. She is in her 8th year. Has had 42 treatments with Carbo, taxol or both. She then took 6 Doxil, and is on her 2nd Gemzar treatment. Carbo and taxol worked good, but she is resistent to them now. Now she is on second line drugs, and we are praying one of them will work. Thanks0
