Just want to say how sorry I am about your mother. My advice would be to contact her doctor and see about antidepressants. Good luck!
Get her doc involved right away. Antidepressants work very well sometimes for people who have given up all hope (Believe me, I know).
I wish you all the best with her. Jx0 -

I don't think it is uncommon for someone to get depressed when going through cancer treatment. I would have her tell her doc and there may be a social worker you or she could contact that is at the oncologists office. Did the doctor say the sores were cancer? I had what looked like sores one side where I had my breast removed and it was a reaction to the stitiches that had not dissolved. It was very red and took a while to heal. I was told to keep it wet with aquaphor vaseline gauze. Check with doc before using anything though. Hope she gets tx soon.0 -

I think it would be best to get your Mom to a doctor. It sounds like she is very depressed,
which is understandable. She probably needs to be on some antidepressants, which there are
lots of different kinds available. But, just get her to her doctor soon. Keep us posted as
to how she does. Good luck!0 -
depression
Millman,
Depression, just like Cancer IS treatable. I know this because I have been fighting Depression for many years. Often you need adjustments in meds, but it is do-able! Good luck to both of you!0 -
HI Allen, It's not uncommon
HI Allen, It's not uncommon to have depression. There is a lot of meds out that can help your mom through. A lot of women/men with or without Cancer suffer from depression. Call your doctor for help. Get mom in to see doctor. Does mom use the internet ? If she does bring her to us. I am sure someone can give you something for the sores to help her feel better. Your a good son, Good Luck0 -
Depression
Allen,
Like the others have said, depression is not uncommon with people who have cancer. It's a devastating disease and, even after the treatments are over, it seems that the fear of cancer remains. I, personally, have not taken anti-depressants, though I have considered it numerous times.
Take your mother to her doctor, they are there for her, and they will know what would be best. If it's a challenge to get your mother to concede to going to the doctor, you can call for a paramedic to assist. My daugher is a volunteer EMT and she has transported numerous patients to the hospital due to issues of anxiety, chronic depression,...
Hope your mother gets the help she needs soon, she is lucky to have you there to care for her, but she needs to be under the care of a health professional.
