Having 3 young daughters I can't imagine how scared you must be. I would call the pediatrician first and if after seeing her you are not satisfied go somewhere else until you get answers. I am not saying I think it is cancer but it doesn't seem normal. Go with your gut on this one.

My advice is don't read anything because then your mind will make you go crazy. Spend time with your daughter. She is worried and scared as well. She needs to see that you are strong so she gets the right tests.

Wait until you see the doctor and then get some answers at that time.

When you go they make take a smear of the discharge and send it to the lab. You may want to request this from the doctor.

It is a wait and see in many of our diagnoses and some have turned out to benign and that is what I am hoping for your daughter. She is young--it might be something to do with her medication or puberty. The doc is the only one that can answer this.

Please don't ignore it, hoping it might go away! Make the call and find out what it is, it may be or not... just be safe and make the call. I have learned that myself... the hard way.

What to do
First I would call the doctor if you haven't already. If you have a thermometer, you might take her temperature. Fever often causes achy bones and doctors like as much information as they can get before they diagnose problems. Tell the doctor about all the other symptoms you have seen as well as the medications she is currently on and previous diagnoses. She is sick and needs immediate treatment, but to get the right treatment the doctor has to get the right diagnosis. That takes information. The doctor may order some tests. Cancer is not cancer until cells are examined under a microscope and a trained pathologist determines that they are cancerous. Even then more tests may be needed to determine what kind of cancer(s) are involved. Children aged 12 rarely get breast cancer, but they do get plenty of other kinds of problems including other kinds of cancers as well as other serious diseases. As a mom, I would say that she is sick, it's serious, and she needs to see a doctor immediately. You will have to judge how immediately. If her fever is high, her seizures are worse, or she is passing out from lack of food, you may need to have her seen tonight. If she seems stable, you may wish to wait until Monday morning and insist she be seen right away. I would not wait until Tuesday even if I had to go to a different doctor or clinic. That's all I can say as a mom, but a good doctor should be able to help a lot more. Good luck!

This is something you don't want to wonder about. Breast cancer in someone this young is rare, but not unheard of. If the pediatrician does not give you satisfactory answers, consult a pediatric oncologist. Check insurance to see if you can contact one on your own or if you need a referral.

I feel so badly for you! It is a million times easier to have cancer yourself than to watch your child go through it or even have that thought! Please let me know how it goes. My heart is crying for you.

The doctor was concerned about her just being anorexic, as in anorexia nervosa. However, she herself is concerned about her weight. I have known anorexic people who were obsessed with being thin. My daughter is not like that. She's actually worried. She has lost 26 pounds in a few months. She was thin to begin with.

I talked to someone at the epilepsy center (Not her doctor, he takes more vacations than anyone I have ever heard of.). She told me that the only symptom of my daughter's that could be a side effect of her medication is alack of appetite. Not the burning pain in her bones, night sweats, extreme lethargy, nausea, or nipple discharge.

How long should the lab results take?
