Jeanne, my oncologist told us that it would take up to a year after completing all treatment before I would begin to feel like myself again. If you have just finished chemo, you are about a month away from starting the uphill battle of gaining strength. If you have radiation to go through yet, then it will be delayed by that length of time you are in treatment. The chemo rebound is the hardest, so don't get down on yourself for not waking up the next day after treatment is completed, and expect to get back into your normal routine. You are still healing, and will be for some time. Do what you feel up to, and don't worry about what doesn't get done. Your strength will return, as long as you exercise, and eat right. I know you want to get going, but just be patient. You are through the worst part, and it is only up from here. Hope you do well in the next few weeks. Hugs.

Keep your chin up
Jeanne, I haven't begun my treatment yet, but I have been taking mental notes from everyones responses to post & I have gathered that most people seem to take about a year to recover (Give or take a few months). Your body has been in battle and now it needs to rebuild. Don't get discouraged on the time frame, just know it does get better...in time. Pammy0 -
Congratulations!
Congratulations on finishing chemo, Jeanne! Isn't it wonderful to know you are done?
I never had physical pain, so I can't really answer the question about residual pain. Fatigue was absolutlely the worst, and it was a few weeks before I felt any stronger. As for eyelashes, I did not lose them all but kept losing for awhile. After about 3 weeks, they stopped falling out and are beginning to thicken.
Hope this helps!0 -
Hi Jeanne........
I had bone pain during chemo. It really hurt, I must say! The onc put me on steroids and it helped some. At least I could endure it.
I finished chemo in mid December last year. (except for the Herceptin that I still get) I still get the occasional "zinger" every now and then. But less frequently as time goes by.
I still get tired. Most days, i need an afternoon nap. But while I'm awake, I am usually busy, busy, busy!!
Of course, now I'm taking care of my hubby, who had recent open heart surgery, so I have kind of had to put any of my issues on the back burner.
Eyelashes. yes, i lost them and eyebrows too. It did not take long after finishing chemo for the eyebrows to start growing again. The eyelashes....it seems like one day, they were all gone and the next day, they were back again! They grew in that fast!
Big ol' hugs!

Way to go!!!!!!! Eyelashes
Way to go!!!!!!! Eyelashes come back quickly. Probably you'll see a difference within 2 weeks after stopping chemo. I didn't lose all of mine, but they thinned out considerably and were pretty full after about 2 months. Now about the pain, what kind of pain are you talking about? I didn't have any pain after chemo, just the nausea that persisted for about 2 weeks. You will feel better hopefully fairly soon, but remember that your body has gone through a major war and it will take some time to recup. Hang in there, Lili0 -
Congratulations, Jeanne!
Done with chemo - a HUGE accomplishment! Glad it's behind you now.
I had rads also after chemo. And, although the chemo side effects did diminish during rads - the body cannot truly begin to heal in earnest until all invasive treatment ends. Remember that everyone's different... My own doctors advised it would be "about" a year (their best "guesstimate") 'til I was fully recovered. Honestly, it felt more like two.
Continue to take good care of yourself. Rest when you're achy and/or tired.
Kind regards, Susan0 -
