a tree grows in Texas

Since I was a little acorn, I’ve been silent as can be.
I’ve stood and waited rooted here
To grow and develop into me.
Not caring what went on outside my little sphere.
For this is where I loved to live and no one interfered.
That is until one day a nasty wind blew through.
It laughed and said, "I’ve been all around the world, and yet
You stand secure and think you are all-knowing,
Take that!" and blew a plastic bag right into me.
At first I was astonished and then I was aggrieved.
Till I discovered what this was! It came from HEB!
My bag is waving high upon my limb and off I go to see
What goodies I can find that are appropriate for a tree.

Can't get the image in. Your have to go to my expressions page to see the tree. Look up at the high limb.

    Here you go, Marcia!

Obviously a female tree, to judge from its affinity for retail therapy!

    Marcia...
    Love the little poem, but...

What the heck is "HEB"? OK, I know it's some sort of store, just never heard of it. (I'm in the Midwest...)

    Kind regards, Susan

    Aortus...
Although females inherently comprehend and intuitively practice Retail Therapy (many are born with the instinct for it) - the benefits are not gender specific. Males simply usually need Tutorials. And once the males grasp the fundamentals, they can often give the females a run for their money! (Lame joke: "...run for their MONEY!" Get it?!? ha ha ha...)

    Kind regards, Susan

    Lynn.......
Do you want to talk about it? Or you can tell me to mind my own business...you won't hurt my feelings. Just maybe if you talk it out, you will feel better. I don't know.

    H.E.B. is a Texas grocery
H.E.B. is a Texas grocery store. The founder used his initals for the store name because his name was Herbert E. Butt. Would you buy your food in a store named Butt's?

    No!
So, I guess that's why he used his initials and not his name. Although many people favor "butt steaks" as their favorite cut of beef! (I don't like 'em...)

    Thanks for the explanation. :-)

    Yes!
But then, I insisted to Moopy that if and when we got a dog, the dog would be named "Uranus." I meant it, too. "Honey, did you take Uranus to the vet?" or even "Sweetie, could you find Uranus for me?"

But when Moopy took me to see the little brown ball of fur she had just adopted from the animal shelter, I fell for the poor little pup at once and named her Eefy Josephine instead.

    Hi Marcia,
    That was great.

    Hi Marcia,
That was great. Are you a Texas girl? It's really ironic. I am being treated for my cancer at the H.E.B. Harris Methodist Hospital. The H.E.B. there stands for Hurst, Euless, and Bedford-the cities that it serves. It is a small world.
    Love ya,
    Donna

    Not Texas born
I was not born in Texas but there is a saying here: "I wasn't born in Texas but I got here as soon as I could." I might not have quoted that right and I might have blown the punch line but you get the idea.

Texas also had a govenor named James Hogg and he named his daughter Ima. Put that one together. Talk about self confidence. She over came this and never married or changed her name. You have to read about her. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ima_Hogg

That's it! Name them guppies all Ima and then some animal.

    Oh Marcia........Too funny!
My Grandma was named Lily, she had 3 sisters named, Rose, Ivy and Daisy......Their surname was...........PLANT! This is not just inconsiderate, this is child abuse!

My Sister named her first son Jason...Thank Goodness, she was going to call him Wayne.., The poor kid already has an aunt called Jo!
And their last name is..........KING. I worry about these people in the small hours of the night. I really do.
