I cannot believe that this REALLY happened!

Today I was at work potting on Rosemary, Peppers, Zucchini and all sorts of other crop.......s

I was carrying a 'spent' tray to the rubbish tip, when I realised summat wasn't quite right.

I was still in the back of the greenhouse and I tried to re-trace my eyesight steps to see what was wrong.

I GOT IT...........A Bloody great SNAKE (EWWWWWWWWW) coiled around the rubbish bin!

I FREAKED!!!!!!!! backed out of the greenhouse and RACED to the till! They absolutely killed themselves with laughing when I told them what the problem was, then they both followed me out-back.

IT WAS HUGE!...They both agreed that it was big......the husband thought it was a Rattler......I hid behind a trolley full of plants making whining noises.

He got rid of it by using a plant-hook. I had to sit and have a cup of tea or two (Yes , typical, Tea-swilling limey) and smoke a couple of Phags.

Sorry, I had to share this with you. I was just sooooooooo freaked, we don't have snakes in England, and if we do, we don't see them...

    Snake story
    Dear Tasha,

Your story brought back memories of when I was a teenager (longer ago than I want to think about)and I took my first summer job in a cotton mill down south as a spooler spare. About half way through the summer, one of the guys at the plant caught a seven or eight foot black snake and carried it into the room on a stick where several of us were working. Most of the girls were screaming and I was quite aware that he was carrying one mighty big, wiggly black snake (only about ten feet from me too!) My mentor for the summer walked up to the boy and told him to take the snake out in a loud enough voice for all the girls to hear. Then in a whisper I caught too she added, "Take it out back son, but leave the door propped open. It'll kill the rats." She had been warning me not to put my hands in any bins without looking or making some noise first. I followed her advice quite closely from then on and made it through the rest of the summer without incident, but I pass on her advice to you just in case. . .

    I am shocked...
Am amazed that you were able to hang on to your sanity today! Were you actually able to go back to work, after the tea break? I think I might have had to call it a day after all of that.

Good grief! I have seen snakes like that only in a ZOO!!! You know, behind glass.

We do have snakes around where I live, but they're tiny little green things, harmless. Children catch and play with them, much like frogs.

I'll be hoping this was a one time experience for you!

    Kind regards, Susan

    Snakes on a plane!
too funny Tasha, I could just picture you jumping on a chair lifting your skirts and screaming.
My hubby and I used to catch rattlers when we lived in the desert. Would give them to the snake wranglers to draw their venom to make anti-venom. We used to live in a little cabin with a 55 gallon drum full of them. They were the best alarm we ever had! ha ha.
the only time I hated them is when I had to confront them with my cats.
    Thanks for the memories

There are so many here (Southwest)...BUT....
I STILL come unglued. Like the gopher snake in the garage. These little darlins like to make like rattlers...curl up, shake the end of their tail....

The difference is, they are harmless! They are more frightened than you...ROFL! I still called animal control, and he came, gathered up my 'friend' and gave us a lesson. I sucked it up and actually TOUCHED the thing...he was 3 feet long!!!

I still will steer VERY clear...this IS rattler country...Venom ER is filmed in Loma Linda, CA, which is the next town over...

I used to think, when mosquitoes bit me, that they got more than they bargained for...my blood was totin' chemo...so they got the bad deal!!! ROFL!!!!

    I'm not crazy about snakes
I'm not crazy about snakes but at one house we lived in we found two that my husband killed. We thought they were poisonous. Then one day found a third and felt guilty about killing them when we didn't know. So managed to get it into an old water boiler (a tub they used to put on the stove to heat water) and took it over to a snake farm (like a snake zoo). The guy said it wasn't poisonous just looked simular. It's natures way of protecting them so other preditors will show respect. He said it was a rat snake and was good for the neighborhood.

I am not afraid of snakes
I am not afraid of snakes unless I come upon them unexpectedly. My mom was not afraid of them either. She was always bringing home stuff for us from Golden Gate Park. Lizards, frogs etc. One day she was there and she saw a very lovely garter snake and she was running after it to catch and a very nice older gentlemen said to her "Just stand still and it will leave you alone". She replied, "I don't want to leave it alone I want to catch and show it to my children". So he pulled his lunch out of his paper bag and they gave chase. They caught and mom brought it home for us to see and then we all returned to the park to release it.
I am picturing you running all higgedity piggedity to safety. Arms waving and shouting loud explecitives at the top of your lungs. I also see you doing your job with a large stick in one hand to beat off any further encounters. I didn't know that St Patrick also got rid of the snakes from England. He must have been very busy. I wonder if Scotland has many snakes. Maybe it was a British Isles type of purge. Couldn't hurt to say a little prayer to him to rid your immediate area of the slithering creatures.

I'm with Donna, Tasha. You were brave to go back. I'd have needed Ativan and a ride home. Funny thing, I was just intending to ask you what you have been up to at work...

Hi, Jackie, sorry to interrupt snake dialogue, which is interesting and funny. But had to say I am so glad to see your new photo, with Bob and your kids. Wonderful to see you all.

Thank you all for not calling me "A Big Girls' Blouse". Thank goodness I had today off to recover.
When I got to the till yesterday, my boss was dealing with a customer so I was trying to portray to her what the problem was using sign language etc... She was in tears when I started waving my head around with a fixed glare and flicking the tip of my tongue out.
Strange sense of humour some of these people have.
