Thanks for the Congrats!chili said:Congrats!!!
I'm doing the happy chair dance for you also! My techs told me that the regular rad treatment uses photons and does the entire breast, the booster uses electrons and just the tumor site. My incision was off to the side and therefore not as heavily involved. Keep using the cream - I cooked for a few days after and the red area grew in size - the rad nurse told me this is normal. I'm now peeling with another layer of red underneath. I finished last Wednesday. Energy has been up and down since then. So glad you've finished and with such a great attitude - keep it up and hugs to you.
My skin is so tight where it burnt the worst, and, that really hurts. Anyone else have this after radiation treatments were done? I have been putting the Aquafor on like crazy and the Biafine. And, it is getting redder..YIKES!0 -
Congrats!!!!
Congrats on finishing your radiation. Doesn't it feel great??!!!
I finished mine last July. Keep taking care of your skin. This week will be the worst for it.
So happy for you!
LOVE your pic! SO CUTE!!!!

Jeanne, I used the inner part of aloe vera, straight from the plant. In case you've never used it, you cut off the leaf, and use the jelly like inner substance. Carefully, rub the slimy stuff all over the burn, and let it dry. I used that at night (have used it all my life for burns), and used my cream during the day.
Be very gentle and you will heal in a few days. So sorry for you. I remember how burnt I was by the end.
Take care,

I will go buy a plant tomorrow. I had seen or heard where others had used the aloe vera, but, when I had asked my radiation oncologist..he said no. But, I am done now, so, I see no harm in using it. I need some help with this burn cause it is hurting. I can't believe I didn't really burn with the regular radiation and burnt so bad with the boosters. Like I said..BOOOOOOOOOOOOOO on the boosters LOL thanks again debbie
p.s. and thanks for the compliment on the pic..it is cute..that puppy is adorable0 -

No, doesn't hurt, at all...Alexis F said:Does the radiation hurt? My
Does the radiation hurt? My radiation oncologist said you can't feel it during treatment. But, that you might have some issues a few weeks in with side effects.
You won't feel anything from the treatment itself. Like getting a chest x-ray, or dental x-rays. Intense fatigue can pretty much be expected; and, it does build up over time. Your rad onc & the techs will watch your skin carefully. Many women suffer from burned skin, like a really bad sunburn. Again, most often this happens with time, as treatments progress. I didn't burn 'til about the last week. Not too bad, either. And healed quickly once rads had been completed.
Important tip: Absolutely do not put anything on your skin without your rad onc's specific approval! Approval for both when & what. Depending upon the radiation equipment, many OTC skin moisturizers can diminish the effect of the therapy, or irritate the skin further (they often include alcohol!) - and nobody wants that!
Please, don't be frightened. I think it sounds a lot scarier than it really is.
Kind regards, Susan0 -
Congrats
I just wanted to say congrats on being done!!!

Congrats. on your completion. I have four more weeks to go. But we just have to keep our heads up. Again congrats. on your completion.
Though sorry for the reason you're here, of course. You will soon know that this is an amazing group, all here to help & share, support & encourage. And in between all the very serious stuff - we even manage to have a little fun, too! Which is really good for the spirit!
Best wishes to you, as you continue your radiation treatments.
Kind regards, Susan0 -

Thank you Christmas Girl. I was told it wouldn't hurt, but, the doctors don't always tell you everything. And I figured people that had been thru it could answer my questions better and more truthfully, and, I was right. I am glad that you did ok with it and didn't burn until the very end. I hope I will be the same way.0 -

Jeanne, my hospital recommends pure Calendula lotion. I am only in my second week, but have been using this and so far, so good. It is indicated for skin irritation and burns. I bought mine at the Whole Foods market (Boiron brand). It's considered homeopathic medicine, and is also available online. I hope the burns clear up soon. My doc. also suggested putting the cream in the refrigerator for burns or a heat rash and using OTC cortizone cream.

I will try to find some of the Calendula. I see my radiation oncologist next week. I am hoping I will be cleared up by then, but, I don't know. I didn't know I would get burnt just by the boosters at the end. I did fine with the regular treatments. And, I have used cortizone for the radiation dermatitis when I had that. Man, that itched. I am soooooooo glad that is gone. Thanks again Mimi! I am wishing you well!0 -

This pic was taken on the last day of my 37 radiation treatments. That is Liz with me, one of the young radiation tech's that I just fell in love with. She cried my last day with me. I became very close to all of the tech's. Notice how thick the radiation room door to the left is? I think it was about a foot thick..it looked like concrete. lol I guess they wanted some good protection from the radiation. lol But, they left me in there..waaaaaa LOL
