OK!!! In spite of the tumor being unusually large, it was just DCIS, and lots of DCIS, in the left breast. Everything in the right breast was benign, as suspected. Left nodes were clear, too.
So...no chemo, no radiation for me, yipee!!

Great news....but I have to admit that as elated as I am, I have a bit of "survivor's guilt" for having gotten off so easily (yes, I consider the mastectomy to be "easy" compared to what I've read of so may of your stories).

My surgeon is going to talk to the oncologist about whether or not I need anti-estrogen drugs, but she's hoping not.

Both surgeon's want me to take it easier and get the bruising and drainage under better control, but that's little stuff.

Thank you for all your good thoughts, prayers, wishes, and universal love (and very gentle hugs).

I wish you all speedy recoveries, continued good health, beautiful hair regrowth (esp. you, Moopy and ohilly).

Love you all!

Debi

    Wonderful News, Deb!
So glad to hear this great news. We do not need another sister who has to have chemo and/or rad, so I say "Nonsense!" to the guilt thing. Surgery and the fear "cancer" causes is pain enough and too much. So, please take care of yourself like your docs say and just be relieved and happy, as we are for your sake.

After all, you've got the young puppy waiting at home for you!

p.s. Thanks for wishing me more hairs on my head. I am working on it, slowly. I have a bang, even. (Ok, it is an inch and a half long, but it's still a bang.)

Shouldn't feel guilty Debi. We're all glad that you don't have to go through that experience. I think it's great. Best of luck and keep us posted. "Gentle" hugs, Lili

    WOO HOO, dear Debi!!!
Wow, this is GREAT NEWS! I am HAPPY and RELIEVED for you, dear Debi! Please, please, please - NO GUILT! That's crazy... :-)

We ALL travel the journey, though the road is different for each. DOESN'T MATTER. The disease, and ALL it entails, is what ultimately unites us.

OK, now that your doctors have instructed you to TAKE IT EASY - will you? I hope so!

Thanks for sharing. Now, GO REST! (Just teasing...)

    Kind regards, Susan

    Me too...
Debi ... I understand completely what you mean about feeling guilty. After reading about the rough rides some of the women on the board have experienced ... I also feel guilty. I "only" had a lumpectomy ... and the chemo I am having is NOT the strong stuff that is so tough on so many people. I'm "just" on taxol/herceptin and there is no nausea. I have such admiration for those who have travelled the tough road and continue to stay strong and determined.

There are (many!) times when I don't feel as though I even have breast cancer. If the doctor hadn't told me ... and I hadn't seen "it" on the mammogram ... I don't think I'd believe it. I guess I expected people with cancer to feel SICK! And ... I don't. It's sort of like ... I have a "mild" case of cancer. I don't feel as though I am fighting a fight ... or struggling as others do. What I am going through is NOTHING compared to what many others with breast cancer experience. I know I should consider myself very lucky ... and I do ... but there's still a part of me that is feeling guilty when I complain about my little problems and ask my "simple" little questions.

But ... I am so thankful for each and every one of you ... for being here ... with me ...

    hugs.

Please, no guilt allowed within this group!

NONE of us here are lucky... The lucky ones are those without a cancer diagnosis. We are, however, grateful & appreciative to all be survivors.

That's what I think... for whatever it's worth.

    Kind regards, Susan

    Whoooooo Whoooooo!!!!!!!
Absolutely Debi~ you so should have come back in here telling us Dire News and needing mega-compassion and extra doses of OH NO's, coupled with what-can-we-do's and general sadness. How dare you make us celebrate and be happy for you?! How dare you give us something to smile about?! And the most unforgivable of all: How dare you give those who followed you in here Hope For a Future!

Enough sarcasm??? I am with all of the Kindred Spirits in here: No Guilt Allowed or warranted. Enjoy the good news, take the time to exhale and when the mood strikes you, be absolutely giddy with relief!!!! We would too!

    Hugs,
    Claudia

    Thanks for sarcasm!
    Hey there Claudia,

I adore sarcasm and dry wit, and you, my dear, excell at both!

I am resting more as my body finally said, "Enough, you stupid woman!!! If you won't rest I'll make your pain worse and make you weak dizzy and nauseous! Ha!" My older daughter left yesterday, and we all miss her. But my sister is still here along with her son, and they have been tremendous help to us (especially when it comes to new puppy patrol!!)

I'll put a picture of Willow on my personal page for you guys.

Lots of love and hugs (gentle goes without saying) to all,
    Debi

    so happy for you!
Oh, Debi, that is such fantastic news. No guilt, OK? Every single person here is ecstatically happy for you. No one would wish this disease on anyone, especially not a sweet, loving person such as yourself. Good news like this buoys up the group. I hope you are taking it easy and breathing a big sigh of relief. I sure am!! Have a great weekend, girl. I am going to a wedding and will silently do a champagne toast to YOU (forget the couple!!)

    My friend Debi
I was so glad to read your good news! You need to be happy about that! We have all been thinking of you, praying for you and waiting to hear from you. I saw your pics of Willow and your beautiful daughter...Both of them are darling! Those 2 alone should give you strength to accomplish anything. And, I am so glad your sister is there to help you. I just finished my radiation treatments Monday and am burnt pretty bad from the boosters, but, I am so relieved to have that behind me. So, let's heal together..ok? Love, Jeanne

    Hello, dear Debi!
Good to know you're resting! I'm sure you certainly DO miss your daughter; but, am glad to know your sister & nephew are still there to help you out.

As you know, I - and many others - think of you often, hoping each day gets at least a tiny bit better. :-)

Thanks for checking in, dear Debi.

I'm now going straight to your "expressions" page to check out the new pics!

    Kind regards, Susan

Debi, that is great news. I am still new here, but, I am learing a lot from the posts. I have ductal and infiltrating, but, only had to have a lumpectomy. I will start radiation soon. I hope you recover soon!

    Drains Out!!!!
    Hello my friends,

Glad you liked the pix. They are pretty adorable!

I got my drains out today, woo hoo! My skin was beginning to attach to them, so the initial tug past the little bulb was ouchy, but other than that it was a breeze!

I got the very stern admonishment to call if there was any inkling of an infection starting, no matter what the hour or day (and cautionary stories to make sure I got the message).

I am pooped, but wanted to post before going in to rest a bit.

With love from the new-improved drain-free,
    Debi
