I have not had that one. Is it with all food? Are you on FOLFOX or that oxiplatin that causes sensitivity to cold?

I've got that one too. Only the first bite or two (or swallow) then it goes away.0 -
Treatment #1
I didn't have that side affect myself, but I know I've read here in the past where others have said that they got that. It was like when you first take a bite of something super sour or super sweet...that pain in the jaw but then it goes away after a bite or two. I think that would be really annoying ... but apparently it is not uncommon. It's almost as if the tastebuds that distinguish sweet/sour are on overdrive and when they realize what you are eating is not sweet or sour, then they calm down. Weird, for sure... but not uncommon
I'm so glad to hear you've made it through Treatment #1! Now, you get to justify resting and pampering yourself... because you can!! And should!!

One of the best things about this board is finding out that those crazy things that occur while on chemo ARE common! And finding ways to deal with them! I think everything is easier to handle when you discover others are dealing with them!

DH has just finished his sixth 5/FU chased by a shot of Neulasta. He has always suffered with the jaw pain from these meds. They say it's the Oxiplatin that is doing it. It's pretty severe and always with the first bite-no matter what he's eating. Sometimes if I remind him to take a small bite the pain isn't quite as severe. So, I would humbly recommend that you try to take a teeny tiny bite at first. His jaw pain remains for several days after the treatment has ended. Most annoying and generally is a surprise as he forgets about it-till it hits! So very strange.0 -
