I just got my first Chemo treatment yesterday but wasn't aware of the eyelashes and brows. i knew the hair but good to know they can grow back. if not, eyebrow pencil i guess. i look at the models on the wig books and they look so pretty, i wonder if they are really cancer patients.

HI! GLAD YOU DECIDED TO POST! I also wonder about these models..sure is funny i bought the hat... results were not the same. I thought is this the same as when i take a pic, into my hairstylist and want to look just like some supermodel in the pic. Somehow it just never is the same lol! One thing about it, we don't have to be alone with these little or big worries. We have each other (thank God) and it is so nice to have answers. Glad your here with us.
How did your first Treatment go? I just finished my 4th yesterday. It is going by faster than i expected. The steroids given with the chemo make me bounce off the walls the first couple days (and try to eat everything in sight!) that is why i am up at 4 am with my sisters in pink. That is another reason this support group is so cool. I can always find a friend nite or day..whenever i'm scared or uncertain. Our friends here on this board......PRICELESS!

I am really hoping it gets less painful each time i go. I go every WEdnesday now and have blood work two days before it. I work as a Phlebotomist and you would think this wouldn't bother me, guess again. Im so happy i found this site, it's wonderful with everyone here and able to ask questions i feel like i belong and people will not be scared of me. i make jokes a lot but the reality is there are people out there that really want nothing to do with anyone who has a disease or illness and it doesn't take long to figure out who they are. hope everyone has a great day. looking forward to talking with you again.

Have you tried Emla cream for the port? I learned about it from this very site from our own Lili. I had already been through 3 treatments without it, and when I asked the nurse she said, "oh that's a great cream." Well why the heck didn't you tell me before?! You can get a prescription from your doctor. Put it on about an hour before your treatment and cover the area with a large bandage. It numbs the skin and you won't hardly feel the prick at all.

I agree about people who stay away when they find out you have an illness. It seems that you suddenly become someone else -- someone not normal or like the rest of humanity. My friends have all been pretty great, but a few have stopped calling. I think it teaches you about real compassion and authenticity.

On the Flip Side, my lashes came in nicely, but my brows , well, not so. They absolutely did grow back, but not as they were before. When I go in for a hair cut, I get my brows dyed, it fills in the sparce areas and actually tints my skin a bit so it looks as if my brows are 100% at their pre-chemo state! Maybe they are, and I just THINK I had perfect brows pre-chemo.....

Oh yes, I think where my errant eyebrows went was to my upper lip! Lose a brow, gain a moustache! So, on the same day I get my brows dyes, I get my upper lip waxed!

Upper lip!
I am hoping this is one area (the chin being the other) that doesn't grow in lush and long! Come to think of it, the legs and underarm hairs are welcome to disappear as well. Oh well, I guess we can't choose. With my luck, I will have to have weekly waxing on my face, but still be bald. Argh.

I am so sorry you're still hurting. I remember being sore for about 1 week and I also remember getting the port and starting chemo 2 days later OUCH!!!. Hope all goes well with you and keep us posted. Hugs, Lili

No, the growth doesn't happen to everyone, and, at least for me, it was that soft down stuff like babies have. It's all gone now...What a GREAT excuse to have a monthly trip to the spa...exfoliation with sea salt and a massage....mmmmmmmm!
