I'm meeting with my plastic surgeon next week to discuss silicone vs saline implants as I have surgery to finish reconstruction middle of October. I'm looking for thoughts on implants as I haven't a clue which to choose. I've been reading and researching but wanted to get the thoughts from my friends here. Had a rt mastectomy in June and completed chemo almost 4 weeks ago. Thanks, Kit

    Silicone vs. Saline
I had a reconstruction nightmare. Because my cancer treatment was so minimal (mastectomy, then tamoxifen, that's it!), and my reconstruction so hard, I sometimes think of myself more as a reconstruction survivor than a cancer survivor!

My first plastic surgeon was HORRIBLE. Put in a saline implant (even though I requested silicone) and made my healthy boob way too small trying to match the implant. With the new surgeon, I ended up with a silicone implant on BOTH sides. Much, much better!

BTW - Found out that the first surgeon botched a LOT of surgeries, and he has LEFT TOWN!

    Saline vs Silicone
    Hi Kit:
I can't say that I have experienced any because I went for the tram flap reconstruction using my own fat and muscle. But when I was looking into the options, I personally liked the feel of the silicone ones. They were much softer then the saline. Good luck to you and keep us posted with your decision. Hugs, Lili

    Implant decision
Thanks for responding and I'm so sorry pmillr to hear of your experience. I met with my Dr yesterday and got to "squeeze" both types of implants. After discussion with my Dr I decided on the silicone. Silicone is supposed to feel and look more natural. Surgery scheduled for October 17th. I'm excited at the same time nervous. Thanks again.

    Kit: It is exciting and
Kit: It is exciting and scary at the same time, but you will love it. It's a big difference from having to go in for a mastectomy and having to go in for reconstruction. The reconstruction was one surgery I was very excited to be doing. It meant that I would be able to look at myself in a different light. Hope everything goes great for you. Hugs, Lili
