Silicone vs. Saline
I had a reconstruction nightmare. Because my cancer treatment was so minimal (mastectomy, then tamoxifen, that's it!), and my reconstruction so hard, I sometimes think of myself more as a reconstruction survivor than a cancer survivor!
My first plastic surgeon was HORRIBLE. Put in a saline implant (even though I requested silicone) and made my healthy boob way too small trying to match the implant. With the new surgeon, I ended up with a silicone implant on BOTH sides. Much, much better!
BTW - Found out that the first surgeon botched a LOT of surgeries, and he has LEFT TOWN!0 -
Saline vs Silicone
Hi Kit:
I can't say that I have experienced any because I went for the tram flap reconstruction using my own fat and muscle. But when I was looking into the options, I personally liked the feel of the silicone ones. They were much softer then the saline. Good luck to you and keep us posted with your decision. Hugs, Lili0 -
Implant decision
Thanks for responding and I'm so sorry pmillr to hear of your experience. I met with my Dr yesterday and got to "squeeze" both types of implants. After discussion with my Dr I decided on the silicone. Silicone is supposed to feel and look more natural. Surgery scheduled for October 17th. I'm excited at the same time nervous. Thanks again.0 -

Kit: It is exciting and scary at the same time, but you will love it. It's a big difference from having to go in for a mastectomy and having to go in for reconstruction. The reconstruction was one surgery I was very excited to be doing. It meant that I would be able to look at myself in a different light. Hope everything goes great for you. Hugs, Lili0
