Thanks anyway, I just thought it was kinda strange that it has gotten so much worse and I've been done with chemo for over a year.0 -

I'm currently getting Taxol, and started (with Dr. O.K.) on glutamine powder on days 1-4 of chemo. There's lots of studies and trials for this. But, it's all done during the process of getting chemo. I felt the burning and tenderness on day 2 of the first Taxol infusion, then it resolved by day 4. The subsequent infusions didn't cause anything except once or twice and I'd continue the glutamine with success. Glutamine is an amino acid (building blocks of protein)and is available over the counter at health food stores or sometimes even Wal-Mart. Print out some of the studies for your Dr. Most say 10grams powder in juice or water, three times a day for days 1thru4 of infusions. But, like I mentioned, I felt the tenderness come back in between infusions and took one or two doses which relieved the symptoms.
Always ask you Dr. But many of them aren't familiar with this enough---thus the reason to print out some of the study results.
Good luck!0 -
I don't know if it helps any but you can take up to 1800 mg of neurontin. I retained some neuropathy in my feet but small amounts of neurontin keep it managable. Frustrating when it develops a year after chemo, you're lucky to have a doc that believes it's chemo related.
You know someone here I think mentioned Vit D helping them with their neuropathy. If not on this site then www.breastcancer.org. Something to look into.
Also a gel called Neurogen (I think) did wonders for KathyM. You can get it at the drug store. Good luck to you, I know how painful it can be.
You can also do a general search for neuropathy at the top of the page and see what others are saying.
Take care

Neuropathy!
I know all too well about foot neuropathy, I was given an overdose of Taxol my first and second time getting it, (06) and it's still no better. I had trouble walking for almost 2 yrs myself (everyones different) I did it all, took it all..Lyrica, epson salts, creams lotions and ice and heat.......what helped a bit was the Neurogen I recommend it but it's expensive and I can't affort it when I'd like it, love a basin of that stuff but it's like gold.
I take Tylenol 1's to walk any distance and suffer greatly...but everyone tells me...at least your HERE.......so I don't complain much about it, sure they are sick of hearing it and it's not something you can see. But it's like walking on broken glass by mid day every day. Shopping is hard and I have ato pace myself now.....but Taxol is offered as a treatment and a good one for those nasty hidden cells.....what ya gonna do eh!
Best to you....hope you find soemthing that helps, your not alone I assure you!!!
