Not the results I wanted but I guess it CAN be worse (hopefully not GET worse). He said that the CT scan after review was ok. But that my CEA levels are 6.5 from a 1 so he has scheduled me a PET scan on 5/30. Anyone else ever have their CEA go up and it turns out to be nothing? Sue

    Hi Sue,

I have heard tons (literally tons!) of stories where CEA increased, and it was nothing (literally nothing!). So don't put too much thought into it. Obviously, communicate with your doc the concerns you have and maybe additional testing?

    Best wishes,
    Stacy

    Hi Sue -

Like Stacy says, this can happen easily. In fact, if CEA were such a reliable indicator of cancer, it would be standard to use it as a routine diagnostic test. But it isn't used that way because it isn't that clear cut. I know you can't help but worry, but the clear CT sounds great and the PET show add another dimension - which hopefully will alleviate your concerns.

    Take care,

CEA is fickle..what goes up doesn't necessarily mean down. and what goes down doesn't always mean down..I went from 21 to 3 under Avastin/Erbitux, and scan reveals tumors still growing.. bud

    Hi Sue,

I concur with everyone else. My CEA has gone up and down and does not necessarily coincide with tumor growth.

We'll send extra vibes and prayers to you on 5/30.

Hi Sue, Bud is right. Scott's CEA never went up throughout his fight. After his surgery and before the chemo, his CEA was .5. We knew they did not get all the cancer. Good luck to you!

    Hi Sue,

As our buddies have stated, CEA is one of those strange things. I'm just sorry that you having to even think about it. Postitive vibes and prayers are being sent your way for the 30th.
