Has anyone or anyone you know taken Xeloda for pancreatic cancer?

Around Christmastime of 2004 my father was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer. Needless to say, we were devastated. Luckily we caught it early enough when it was only 1.5cm. He had turned yellow with jaundice because the tumor had blocked his bile duct. He had Whipple surgery and came through with flying colors. He even left the hospital ahead of schedule. After his rounds of chemo and radiation, my father was cancer-free. This past Christmas, we were not prepared to hear that the cancer is back. My father was started on chemo again and having a really hard time with it. He was not tolerating it as well as he did the first time and his blood count was really low. The past few weeks he has not even been able to get chemo because of the low blood count. He went to the doctor again today and they decided to put him on Xeloda. I haven't found a lot of information about this drug on the internet and from what I have seen, it seems it is used mostly for breast and colorectal cancers. Has anyone taken this drug? I'd like to know a little more about it and also the side effects. Thank you for any info you might have.

Sorry to hear that your father has had a reoccurence. Capecitabine (Xeloda) is the name of the drug. Go to PubMed and enter the name into the search bar. There are many articles about the use of the drug from doctors.

What were your father's surgical margins or pathology? What treatment drugs did he take after surgery?

My wife had the same surgery last Oct. so I understand.

My father's tumor was only 1 1/2 cms before he had surgery. It did not invade his lymph nodes at all. It hasn't metastasized and the doctors have told us that pancreatic cancer rarely, if ever, does. After surgery my father began chemotherapy and radiation. I'm not quite sure of the treatment drugs that he took after the surgery. I hope your wife is doing well!
