Will this nightmare ever end???

Hi all, Everytime I think I'm doing better, something else happens. I don't know, this may be off topic. Ever since I had the colon resection, I have had a urinary cathether. That's since May 20th. The urologist said he wanted to let my bladder rest, since it was exposed to radiation too. He said it would probably work after a few months. Well, it's been a few months and he still hasn't done anything. I've had the cathether stop up once and 800 cc of urine back up in me, which was very painful and I've had bleeding really bad in the cathether bag 3 times, the last time being this evening. I'm really tired of this. I'm scared that there is cancer there and they just haven't found it yet. I AM SO TIRED OF THIS!!!! WILL IT EVER END?????? I don't even know what to do anymore. I'm not going to the emergency room again because of this bleeding. It's flooding here and I'd probably not be able to get there anyhow. It always seems to happen on the weekend when the doctor's not in. What do you all suggest?????
Love and prayers,
Judy(grandma047) who is very tired of this whole thing.

time for a second opinion?
I am so sorry you are going through this.
I hope you find the solution...demand to know why this is happening and if this is normal.
You are paying the doctor--HE works for YOU!

Hi Judy,
I agree with everything the other friends have posted. Please make those doctors work for you. It is a job like any other and they are being paid handsomely to be at your service. I am so sorry to know that things are so tough right now. Often docs will not go the extra mile unless you push. The squeaky wheel gets the grease as they say. I will be thinking of you and praying for you. Hang in there.
Love,

Judy, I am so sorry to hear you are going through all this. My husband had a catheter in for nearly a year after his rectal cancer surgery. In his case it was his prostate that caused the problem, which is obviously not the case with you!! However, he had to have the catheter changed quite often as he got severe bladder spasms after a while. After all, the catheter is a foreign body in the bladder and is an irritation. That may be why you are getting the bleeding. Sediment and blood clots can form around the catheter tubing and cause blockage, which, as you experienced, is very painful. When I look back, my husband had more pain and complications from the catheter than he did from the rectal surgery and the follow up treatment (chemo/radiotherapy). Fortunately, as soon as he had prostate surgery and the catheter was removed, his problems went away.
As advised above, you must press the doctor for information. LIke, why is he not trying to see if the bladder can work by itself now? Maybe he has reason to believe it is too soon to try but if you were told this, I think you would feel better....just knowing. Also, make sure the catheter is changed regulary to cut down on infection . Best of luck.0 -

Heed the Semi-Colonic advice! Everyone is right on the mark here.
One other thing, darlin', if you're bleeding, you need to go get it checked. I agree with T, the catheter is a foreign body inside you - your body is going to try and protect you and get rid of it.
Hang in there. Know that we all love you and keep you in our thoughts and prayers daily. Remember the immortal words of Sir Winston Churchill:
"If you're going through Hell... Keep going."
Keep going, Judy - you'll get out of hell soon - I know it.

My dearest Judy,
I'm so sorry sweetheart. I think of you often and hope things are going better for you. I know how scary inexplicable things going on in your body can be... But there is a cause and a solution and your doctor had better get to the bottom of it! Remember they did only open you up a few months ago and peeked in at all your internal organs, so try to stay calm and don't think about cancer (although, understandably, that's the first place your mind goes). I don't know if this will make you feel any better, but right after I was released from hospital following my APR I went downhill. I had awful cramps, diarrhea, vomiting, no appetite. My mother and I were scared to death, and having no experience with major surgery, I thought maybe this is the way things would be forever! This went off for about 2 weeks. During those two weeks, I saw my world-renowed surgeon twice who insisted that I "just didn't like my mother's cooking". It took a green growth on my stoma and a perceptive nurse three weeks post-op to realize that I had a bacterial infection! After two days on antibiotics, I turned the corner and began to heal. All this to say that I empathize with your panic and despair (and I haven't been through a quarter of what you have) but please don't give up. Take all your frustrations and demand that your doctors figure out what's going on. You have come so far and you are a true inspiration to us all. I can't even imagine the nightmare you have been through but I feel that you will be turning some corners soon. We are all thinking of you and demand that your doctor fix you up!
All my love,

Hi Judy: I'm not that familiar with your etiology, but Andrea's situation is a good example; if you are not getting answers, get a second opinion. Often doctors seem to give as little information as possible; make a list, and pin him down. If that doesn't work, get another opinion.blood from anywhere is an indication all is not right. Bud.0

Dear Judy,
Bless your heart....you have gone through too much. It's sad that sometimes we, patients, have to be our own advocates, but I agree with all the other Semi-colons. Try and get answers from your doctors, or a second opinion might be what you need.
Please know that you are in my thoughts and prayers.
Wishing you well soon!

Hey Judy,
I really feel for you, im sorry things are tough for you but you are a fighter and do manage to get through the hurdles. I really think you should see a doctor about the bleeding, be persistant. I think its better to find out what is going on.
Hang in there and I love what the 'wise man' spongebob quoted. It is so true
