Too young to have Bladder Cancer

Hey all, I was diagnosed with T1 bladder cancer this summer, at the age 21. Every doctor I have spoke to has never seen anyone as young as me with such an illness. I had a 1.5mm tumor removed and during the procedure it was noticed that there were malformations in my urethra. A biopsy was taken and returned positive for cancer. I have been going through modified BCG treatments, in order to deal with the urethra cancer. Instead of holding the BCG for the usual 2 hours, I have been holding for only 45 min and while urinating using an incompetence clamp to hold the BCG in the urethra for as long as I could stand. That proved to be very painful. 4 weeks into the treatment I had to move back to college and sought out another doctor to finish the treatments, and after reviewing my case, he denied the treatments. He reasons made lots of sense and explained all the pain and discomfort I was having. By holding back the BCG in the urethra it was causing a reflux into my prostate tubules and seminal vesicles causing inflammation and pain in my prostate and testicles. So I am now no longer using BCG and taking an array of diffrent medications in order to reduce the pain and inflammation.

Well that is my story. If there is anyone else who is close to my age I would be surprised and love to hear from you. And if anyone else has a recommendation for me please share. I would love to see what else other people have to say. Thanks for reading

Jeff

Stop! You are two young to have this. What kind of bladder cancer do you have? TCC, RCC, or what? You did not say where you were going for treatments. You need to go to a MAJOR CANCER CLINIC. Sloan Kettering in Boston, M D Anderson in TX or Mayo Clinic in Rochester, MN. It is your life and not all clinics are the same.

I have stopped the treatments which I was getting at my uroligist office and sought a second oponion and am awaiting the return of the pathology from John Hopkins in NYC and I am going to see a specialist at Sloan in NYC this winter when I finish for the semester

I highly suggest you go before or during the semester. Time is everything.

hey jeff, i'm 21 and was diagnosed back in January as having a high grade papillary urothelial carcinoma. since then i've been one hell of a worrywart. on my last blood work i turned up iron deficient and now will need a colonoscopy to rule out colorectal cancer.....i'm highly worried about metastasis, scares the crap out of me. anywho, feel free to email me or whatnot. I certainly understand the anxiety of being at the beginning of life and having to deal with the threat of death.

I'm 18 and I have bladder cancer too!
    Hi Jeff,
This is definitely not something that younger people get, but you're not alone. I'm 18 years old and I was just diagnosed with bladder cancer last month. Spent a lot of time being told it was kidney stones until an ultrasound was finally ordered. I had surgery to have the tumor removed, now I have appointments every 4 months to check if it's coming back. All the doctors and nurses told me how obscure it was too - we're just that 0.01%. Figures, huh?
