Our son was diagnosed with Osteosarcoma in September 2003. He was 14 years old at the time and is now 15 after spending his birthday in the hospital. He is receiving intensive chemotherapy and has just been through limb salvage a month ago. I would love to talk with other people with this same cancer since we have not yet met anyone. Thank you so much for your response.

My daughter-in-law had ewings sarcoma of leg at age 18, has been cancer free until this year age 25. She has had yearly MRI, however, the doctors always did a grid search of the existing area and never did MRI of complete leg. She now has a major mass behind the knee and needs treatment but is also pregnant 26 weeks.

Best wishes to you and your son. Stay on top of the followup. It's easier to treat when small.

My son had an amputation of his right leg on May 12, 2003. His osteosarcoma was in his right iliac crest. He is learning to walk on a prosthesis. We have been through a great deal of suffering, but by the Grace of God we have our son. He is 16 years old. From Louisiana.
    His web site is www.eschoolk8.com/Jacob.html
    God Bless,

Hi Prayermom. I was 18 when I was diagnosed with osteosarcoma in my left tibia. I went through 6 surgeries on my leg and my doctor was able to save it. It was a very long road but now I've been cancer free for 10 years and you'd never know I had cancer unless you see the huge scars running up and down my shin. I don't even have a limp at all and I've had two healthy wonderful children since. You can email me anytime if you would like to know more about it. Good luck!

Hi PrayerMom. I am a 18 year old Osteosarcoma survivor. I was diagnosed when I was 15. The tumor was in my left leg abouve my knee. It had gone undetected for so long that it had spread to both of my lungs. I had 6 surgeries total. The doctors were able to save my leg. I went through 18 months of high dose chemo because I relapsed in my lungs while still on treatment. I would love to talk to your son or you. My email is Survivor31386@hotmail.com. Email me anytime.

    Hi

I live in Jersey,Channel Islands.UK. My 17 yr old son was diagnosed with osteosarcoma 2 months ago and has just started the second chemo cycle out of six lasting 8 months. Each time we have to take him on a plane to a hospital in mainland UK and are there for 5 days. Me and my wife take this in turns. I know how you feel and understand how you life is normal one day and is completely turned upside down the next. It will never be the same for our son or ourselves. I would be interested to hear your experiences as I believe you are in the US.It will be interesting to compare treatments over there and in the UK
My son's tumour is just above his ankle and fortunately has not spread. He will have limb salvage surgery to remove part of the fibula bone and the tumour. The success of the operation depends on how much the chemo shrinks the tumour and it will be a tense time when the surgery happens as there is a scenario when he loses his foot. Since diagnoses I have spent days searching the net for information about this rare cancer and have bought books on the cancer and nutrition
I would be interested what you have found out about it, the causes and the treatment
I have quite a few word files with information which I have collected from various sources
I you give me your email address I can send you all these as attachments

    Kind regards

My son Josh had osteosarcoma when he was 8 years old. He had a failed rotationplasty limb salvage procedure and ended up with an above the knee amputation. He is now almost 11 years old and is doing well. He has some learning disabilities and is struggling with catching up in school now. Hope you are doing well also.

Hello. My name is Monica. I was diagnosed with osteosarcoma at age 27. It was stage 1. I didn't have to go through chemo or radiation. I had surgery in November 2006. The tumor was removed, I had a full knee replacement, resection of veins, etc.. I also lost the nerves- I cannot lift my right foot up anymore. I have to wear an AFO-brace to help me walk without my foot dragging. I am thankful. I hope everyone is doing well.
