HELLO AGAIN, I WANT TO TELL EVERYONE THAT THALIDOMIDE SEEMS TO BE HELPING MY FATHER WONDERFULLY, HE IS FINALLY GETTING BACK TO BEING HIMSELF AFTER A HORRIBLE THREE MONTHS. HE DID VAD TWO CYCLES AND SPENT A GOOD MONTH AND A HALF IN THE HOSPITAL AND WAS TOTALLY A MESS, HE STARTED TAKING THALIDOMIDE ABOUT TWO MONTHS AGO AND HIS PROTEIN/CALCIUM? REDUCED TO HALF AND HE CURRENTLY HAS VERY FEW OR NO MYELOMA CELLS PRESENT IN HIS BODY, THERE IS A DOWN SIDE THOUGH, HE IS ON DIALYSIS 3X PER WEEK, THE KIDNEYS ARE FAILING DUE TO THE MM, BUT THEY ARE STILL THINKING THEY MAY PULL THROUGH.WE ARE HOPING AND PRAYING, EVERYONE DON'T GIVE UP, ASK FOR THE NEWEST TREATMENTS, VELCADE IS NOW APPROVED, THAT IS SUPPOSE TO BE GOOD TOO. A COULD SAY THAT I THOUGHT MY DAD WAS HELPLESS A MONTH AGO AND NOW HE IS GREAT.. KIMD

Praise God! Im so happy to hear that your Dad is doing so well. I tried Thalidomide and it didn't do anything for me. Ended up having a donor BMT and still in the first 100 days of that. All seems to be going well though. Im 41 years old and was Dx'd at 38 yrs old. Glad to hear the great news about your Dad. Remember God Heals all who put their faith and trust in Him.
Take care and God Bless,

Westlake, See if you can get to a larger treatment center to get into the new revimid study. Revimid is the 2nd generation of thalidomide, and is free if you get into the program. I have been in it now for 2 months, and it is working better than the stem cell trans plant. The side effects are tolerable, so far, but you have to link it with dexamethasone. The steroid is not much fun, but then neither is the alternative(dying). Good luck. DrStevewestlake said:velcade vs. thalidomide going to Canada or can drugs be brought over? Est. cost would be $8K per month.

You don't have to pay $8000. My dad on Medicare only, couldn't afford $5K for Thalomid. Submitted all financial records to the manufacture, and received FREE Thalomid as long as he needs it. Unfortunately, we had to discontinue since it was having no effect on his cancer.westlake said:velcade vs. thalidomide going to Canada or can drugs be brought over? Est. cost would be $8K per month.
