6 Month NED

Hello. sorry I forgot to post this earlier. Had my 6 month post Proton beam rads treatment for right side tonsil and rifght lymph node SCC. My ENT said all looked great. She went on to say after scoping my throat..." i would challenge any doctor to find any evidence that you received 6 weeks of radiation for HNC". I still have some dry mouth on the right side at night ( I am a mouth breather when sleeping) and my taste is about 80%...hoping to get to 100%. My ENT is at a different hospital from Mayo Clinic where I received 6 weeks of daily Proton beam Rads. She had never examined a patient that had Proton beam...only Photon rads at their hospital. She was extremely impressed with my results. If any of you have an option to receeive Proton beam rads...I would strongly recommend.

    Congratulations, skidog!

I had my 6 month NED in Dec.  It's a good feeling, eh?  The surgeon on my team scopes my throat each time and there was no evidence of any scarring whatsoever at the primary location (BOT).  The dry mouth was gettting much better up through Dec, but the cold winter weather made it do a 180° turn and now it's kinda bad.  If you only have minimal dry mouth consider it a true blessing!

    Congratulations Skidog!

Here’s to many more NED results going forward.  I have heard great things about Proton Beam Therapy.  It should give all of us hope to see ongoing advances in the treatment of cancer.  IMRt radiation was itself an advance that more precisely targeted tumor sites thereby causing less damage to adjacent, healthy tissue, and now with Proton Beam therapy the radiation treatment component is even more precise and less damaging.  When I recently went in for a check up my radiation oncologist said that clinical trial are advancing  that the future treatments  likely include a combination of immunotherapies with highly targeted radiation.  God forbid recurrence, but I do take some solace in the  treatment options.

    But most importantly, congratulations!
