    RCC w/Rhabdoid features

    Hubby has metastic RCC with some rhabdoid features.  The RCC is being treated well with Sutent.  The rhabdoid is agressive and he has new mets from that.

    I wa told RCC and instead was A cystic nephroma, also known as multilocular cystic nephroma, mixed epithelial stromal tumour (MEST) and renal epithelial stromal tumour (REST), is a type of rare benign kidney tumour.

    13.4 cm tumor. RCC unclassified with sarcomatoid and rhabdoid features. Grade 4

    I guess this is very rare and aggressive.

    That is huge!

    Mark David, that sounds a lot like what I had also. My info is in my profile. They did call mine rare and agressive also. 

    How are you doing now, 9 days out of surgery? I wish you well and hope you are doing really good.

    Clear Cell; 2.6CM Furhman 3 (taken out 4/19/18 Successfully)

    I am interested in learning more about the scales and statistics as long as they are reasonably up to date and consider more than just age, stage, size, and grade. Any help will be really appreciated. I am scheduled for monitoring every 6 months for at least 3 years and then reassess. So again, any advice, information would be greatly appreciated.

    Advice

    Welcome, skip.  You're a few weeks out from surgery, so my advice is to listen to your body as you recover.  Take it easy when you need to and don't rush the process.  Recovery varies from person to person, so don't push it.

    It was a crazy week from

    It was a crazy week from diagnosis to surgery to discharge from the hospital.  I don’t think it really hit me that I have cancer until I got home and started reading and researching. Recovery from surgery went better than expected - really no complications.  I was able to go back to work after 3 weeks - though probably should have waited a week.  

    My next doctor visit is my 3 month post survery where I have a battery of tests and scans waiting to find out if they got all of the cancer or if it spread.  The initial scans were negative, lymph nodes were clear, adrenal gland was clear, margins clear, etc.  When I read my pathology report I was a little freaked out - and then of course I googled it and became even more freaked out.  

    I am hopeful that when I go In my scans are clear but my doctor gave me about a 50% chance of that.  If not, then we will just deal with it day by day.

    Thank you! I was shocked when they told me how big it was and then I was speechless when they showed me the CT scan.  I can’t believe that I could have something that large in me and not have known.  Crazy.  I am actually about 6 weeks post surgery and I am feeling pretty good physically.  Emotionally - well that is day to day.  Pretty good during the day when I am busy but at night ... well there is a lot to think about which I am sure we can all relate to that.

    Your surgery sounded very intense.  I am happy to hear that it went well and I hope your recovery was good and will continue to be good. When I go in for my 3 month post op I they will do all the scans, tests, etc. and I will find out what happens next.  Right now I am just waiting which is hard to do.
