I think what we put into our bodies makes a difference (as I eat a few white chocolate chex mix pieces! LOL) .... Kind of like putting the wrong fuel in your vehicle is bound to cause some mechanical issues. Toxins can be found not only in our food but the air we breathe and the water we drink, so I am trying to find some sort of healthy balance. I honestly had never given 2 thoughts about my kidney function or the damage my diet could have on my body internally. I thought about the scale, my total body weight and if I needed to lose a pound or two.

Abstract
PURPOSE OF REVIEW:
The incidence of kidney cancer rises globally with the highest rates in developed countries. This demonstrates the impact of advanced diagnostic imaging but also rising prevalence of modifiable risk factors such as smoking, obesity and hypertension. A literature search was performed with focus on recent studies on risk factors related to lifestyle, medication and nutrition. Further we searched for the effect of cancer prevention strategies.
RECENT FINDINGS:
Overall, we included 76 studies of the past 5 years. Based on current evidence smoking tobacco, obesity and hypertension remain established risk factors for kidney cancer. Certain analgesics and consumption of processed meat have been linked to increase development of renal cell carcinoma, although data are limited. Fruits, fiber-rich vegetables, coffee and physical activity may have a protective effect against kidney cancer but causal conclusions are not yet supported. Significantly, there is an increasing evidence of inverse association between moderate alcohol consumption.
SUMMARY:
Overall evidence confirms an effective way to prevent the risk of kidney cancer is maintaining a healthy weight and avoid smoking. State policies should further ensure strategies to raise public awareness and support to adopt healthy lifestyles.

Maintain healthy weight and don't smoke... Great advice of course, but maybe there isn't anything specific to kidney cancer.
The only advice I've had is to limit salt and drink lots of water.
I am going to ignore the low salt advice but I will stay well hydrated.

Thanks for posting this. I've noticed in my 1.5 year membership here that more and more healthy people (meaning they don't fit into the listed risk factors) are being diagnosed. I'm an avid runner and weight train regularly. I've never smoked, but drink casually (1-2 beers a week). I eat a good balanced diet--lots of fruits and veggies. I do enjoy red meat and eat it often. I weigh between 175-185 lbs depending on how much I'm training. By all appearances I shouldn't have cancer--but I did. Just like survival numbers that we often say are outdated, I think we have to look at a more global reason for cancer. Sure, smoking and not living healthy are risk factors, but there has to be more.

Too Much of Carbs & Bad fats might be the cause
When i ask how i got this.....? I look back on what i have been putting into my mouth everyday for the last few years. I realised i been eating too much of carbs foods and bad fats ( from the red meat). Too much high carbs and bad fats cause overload of bad nutritions in our body and in the long run.... this happen. Well, this is how i look in my case.
Now like Steve.Adam recommended go on low carbs food might be the answer.... cutting all the processing fine sugar foods, sugars, pastries and others high GI foods.... and bad fats. But going full on Ketogenic Diet, I might find it a problem for us, especially Ketogenic Diet high on protein which is a problem for our kidneys.
Icemantoo, is the living proof, he took 3 years to reach to his healthy weight....... 15 years NED. So getting a healthy weight with good diet is very important.... this is how i look at it...... Low Carbs, moderate protein and good fats...... Currently i'm going on intermmittent fasting (16/8, Leangains) +low carbs diet..... As having intermmittment fasting is like mild Ketogenic diet effect and a control protein intake.... Hope and wish i on the right track or i might die slowing..... (hahahaha).
And of course others important factors including ample of water daily and actively exercise....
But do aware low carbs diet do has it cons too....

Low carb is not high protein
When you lower carbohydrate it is actually the fat that needs to increase. Protein should be low to moderate.
That takes a lot of getting used to. Fat has been demonised for many years now, but opinions are changing.
I don't want to say too much because I believe people should get interested and do their own research. You might find different ideas to mine and they might work better for you.
That video I recommended was about a therapeutic ketogenic diet for brain cancer. That is a fast killer and there are few options.
I don't know why there is so much cancer in the world now. Industrially produced chemicals seem a likely candidate. Who knows.
We have no control over most of the possible causes of cancer, but we do have control of our own diet and fitness.
One thing... There is no suggestion that a ketogenic diet is a cancer cure, but it works very well in combination with (all?) other therapies.

The good fats
The good fats are olive oil, coconut oil, palm oil (I think) and animal fat. Butter, lard etc.
Avoid the seed oils!!!

I have been eating ketogenic
I have been eating ketogenic since the end of June. Within 3 months I dropped 35 pounds. I dropped a few more...then Christmas holidays added a few more.When I strayed over the holidays, the main reason I returned to keto was that my stomach was hurting so much. So Dec. 27 I returned to keto. I feel so good. My stomach doesn't hurt, my blood pressure is normal - without medication - and I am looking forward to a cholesterol drop in my bloodwork as well.
I believe that this is the way humans were meant to eat....thinking back of the primal times...this is how you ate! I am a sugaraholic, I must admit. So sticking to keto is challenging in some ways. But it is worth it. There are many pros on this way of eating....besides weight loss - improved blood pressure, cholesterol, it is known to substantially help you if you are pre or full diabetic. It promotes healthy brain (this diet was developed in the 1920s to aid with epileptic seizures), it is recommended for brain injuries. I know people who claim their dental checkups have improved. The benefits go on and on. The good fats are avacado, olive, and coconut. Often people are in disbelief because of the "healthy" diets big corporations have been trying to feed us. You can eat bacon, whipping cream and cheese....just in moderation. You feel full very easily - and stay full - I don't eat much more protein than I did before.
I highly recommend you do some research - with an open mind.

Hi Jojo,
I haven't been following the low carb diet very well since my nephrectomy in February. But I have not been going nuts on carbs either. I am diabetic and quite insulin resistant so only a small amount of carbohydrate is enough to make me slowly gain weight. Two bananas every day would be way too much.
If I do have any carbs, like a Mars bar for example, it can take days to get over that feeling of wanting more. It's like quitting cigarettes.
I've never measured my ketones and never really tried to be in ketosis, but just an ordinary low carb diet has been a very important positive change in my life.

And anyone who doesn't agree should look at declining health of populations since governments and other organisations around the world started publishing dietary guidelines. The food pyramid was developed by the U.S. Dept. of Agriculture... Why them?
I can talk about this for hours... But this is the wrong forum. There is a lot of discussion on this issue on the internet so anyone who looks for information can easily find it.

While the incidence of other
For the past few decades, while the incidence of other caner is declining but Kidney Cancer is rising, I agree one reason is the imaging technology so we have found more earlier. But I truly believe it is related to all the chemical that we have been feeding, breathin and injecting into our system is the main one to blame. Especially when we are seeing more patients coming from the younger population without any risk factor and no family history.
For the generations who were born after 50's, we should still remeber those days that we used DDT, hair spary, containers with BPA, food that conatins additive that causes cancer, MSG replacing salt for some reason and etc... plus other environment factors. Nowaday, I don't bother about that anymore, but I do believe changing my life style with eating natural food and doing regular exercise will reduce the chance of recur or a 2nd disease. As per Fox said, we need maintain a strong body to prepare for battle if it happens. Put in mind immunotherapy works best only when the immune system is working and working well. Will a weaken immune system, even the therapy waken the system and identified the enemy but there will be no army to fight the war for you.

I was 37 years old when I was
I was 37 years old when I was diagnosed and had my neph. I was healthy not over weight non smoker. I'm eating what I want and enjoying my life. What I ate did not cause my cancer And I don't think it will cause it to return. eat what you want.

While I was always health
While I was always health conscious and watched what I ate I do agree with rdoyd2. Our diet didn't cause this and it won't cause it to return or, unfortunately, prevent it. I met not one of the risks for kidney cancer yet still got it. No one in my family on either side ever had any type of cancer. Yet here I am. I think being conscious of what we eat is a good thing. I'm not saying we should eat fried foods and fast food burgers 24/7. But I tend to believe that it's the illusion of control what attracts us to try to avoid or seek out certain foods.

I’ve been LCHF for 2 years.
I’ve been LCHF for 2 years. It’s made a huge difference in my overall physical well being, joint pain, basic illnesses, and energy. I wonder if I had Stuck to this way of eating the first time I did it in my 30’s if I wouldn’t have had RCC. I won’t go back to processed foods or lots of sugar, flour, pasta and rice. Thanks for this info. I will look the video up. I read some about Keto for cancer a couple months ago but never bought the books to further my knowledge. It wouldn’t be a stretch for me to become full Keto
