    Hi Nicole and DanceMom

It's really impossible to not be afraid, but talking things over with people here was very helpful for me when I first joined.  For most of us things are not as bad as they first seem.

You can talk about anything here.

I'm glad to meet you but also sorry that you have to be here... (That is such an odd feeling, like... Welcome but I wish you weren't here.)

    Steve.

    Thanks!

Thanks, Steve. This board is helping me. I am terrified of the MRI tomorrow, but even wish it was sooner. I contacted my mom's cancer doctor and she said she will see me to review imaging and get a plan if need be. One step at a time

    Hi again Nicole

Please give us some more information about your situation. You probably don't know much except for tumour size and location.  Mine was about 4cm and in the right kidney which was removed and all is well now.

    Steve.

    Follow-up

I don't know much right now. I know they found something in the ultrasound. My GP was concerned and indicated that what they saw appeared to be a mass in my left kidney and alluded to my family history, etc., and said I needed an MRI right away. He is sending me for that MRI tomorrow. I have pain in my side, like my mom did, which scares me because hers was larger and had some vein involvement, eventually returning to her liver five years later. I hope the outcome will be positive like so many on this board. I have children who still really depend on me, and there is not a day that goes by that I do not miss my mom. Did they take your whole kidney? Both my parents had their kidneys removed. Thanks for checking in, it helps.

    Findings

    Hi Steve,

I found out by picking up the ultrasound that mine is 2x3, 2x3, by 2.9 cm and is in the middle of the left kidney.

    Good news

I received the MRI results back, no malignant tumors!  The tumor in my liver is a focal nodular hyperplasia.  Benign and probably developed from the use of oral contraceptives.  The spot on my kidney is a dromedary hump, just like Kat had mentioned..  I have a follow up to discuss the pain im experiencing in my back.  So these lesions were incidental findings that ended up being nothing. I'm so relieved.  I was so stressed that I developed hives all over my neck and chest.  Cancer is a scary f#%!?| thing and I hope I never have to go through this again.  Thank you for all your comments and support.  This forum is a really amazing place.

    Goodbye!

Always glad to tell people on this board goodbye for reasons like this.

Great news you don't belong here.

    Go away. :)

    Todd

    Whole kidney

Yes, my whole kidney was removed.

A 3cm tumour is not large so I think a good outcome is very likely for you.

When you tell us your news you might want to start a new topic.

    Good luck with he scans!

    Steve.

So while the MRI radiologist thinks it is a large cyst, my doctor wants me to have several doctors confirming this, which is why I like my doctor. I got the MRI film after the procedure and sent it to my mom's oncologist, a top kidney oncologist. There are cystic renal cell carcinomas too. I hope to get an appointment with her. I want to celebrate, but I am guarded. The waiting is so hard, actually exhausting. Everyone in the house is stressed. I have to see a urologist too. Fingers crossed.
