Oncolgist has ordered a new CT....

I recently had my annual CT with & w/o contrast [ chest, pelvis, abdomen ] [ I'm at a little over 4 years from Stage 1/ Grade 1 - 5.0cm RCC ] in SEPT '16 and was given the all clear- NED. 
I then had a Coronary Calcium Heart CT [ no contrast ] in October '16, and there was a footnote:
** " 11x9 pericardial nodule may be related to band of scar/ atelectasis as compared to prior chest 09/08/16, this may be new. Further evaluation with a chest CT may be benficial. "

Oncolgist has ordered a new CT w/o contrast.  

** will w/o contrast be enough? 

** optimistic, but concerned. What did worry ever do for me anyway? :)

    Hi, Adam, I wouldn't be too worried right now.  All else is clear.  It most probably is nothing.  Maybe ask him to do with and would contrast if it makes you feel better. Is that mm those measurements?  That is still small.  I wouldn't worry. All the best!

    Sorry for this angst/anxiety Adam that you are going through at this time.

    You know once they have diagnosed something they start looking meticuously with follow ups.. rightly so.

    So that is just your radiologist talking as a "suggestion" of closer look. Try not to use up your precious energy with worry.

    I know easier said than done.

    I agree, w/ contrast is the way to go. I think since I just had contrast in Sept., they're trying to look out for my remaining kidney. The 'Radiologist' may feel differently than the Oncologist.

    My eGFR is about 68-72; guess they want it to stay that way.

    No contrast

    I'm an X-ray tech and our protocols are contrast for generalized lung disease and no contrast for nodules. Chest is a bit different than other tissues where contrast is concerned. Most of us and our experience with kidney scans know that contrast is better however this isn't the case with lung imaging as the uptake and tissue density are so different. So in this case, no contrast is the gold standard.

    UPDATE / Results - NED

    I'm very happy to report [ NED ] on my latest Chest CT w/o contrast -

    " NO Evidence of discrete lung nodule. In the region of the questioned 11x9 mm nodular density noted adjacent to the pericardial fat. There is only a band of linear scar noted on the coronal reconscructions. "

    you know, it's very interesting that all of us lead busy lives & are going through and managing our health issues, day in & day out.  Yet we all make time to supprt & love each other. 

    Maybe all of us are examples of "be nice, it feels good", healing each other every day. the rest of the world needs to emulate our actions.  this disease has a silver lining; we are all in this together & are living proof that we are one & each of us can be a beacon of hope & love.

    Funny thing about that...

    When we find other folks who are like us, we connect.  Funny thing about that, every person probably has something that makes them like us. 

    This is a good place to practice "Be nice" and "We're all in this together," especially since we can benefit either way. Hopefully our lights will shine enough that others will see similarities, and not their diffences. The world really is "us" not "us" and "them."
