    Stage 4 Lung Cancer
My father age 85 was diagnosed with stage 4 lung cancer in July 2009. He was told he had 6 months to live. Well my father has always been one that will decide his destiny. Here is what I and several of my family member did.

    1) We put him on a diet of cancer fighting foods
    2) We cut his sugar intake as much as possible. He has been a diabetic for 30 years anyway.
    3) No carbonized sodas
    4) Plenty of water
    5) We Prayed
    6) Keep stress away and try to keep his spirits high.
    7) We Talked about the Cancer

He immediately started Chemo. After all the treatments as cat scan was performed. He was told by the Doctors that his stage 4 Cancer is now Stage 2 Cancer. It was decided to give his radiation. He went through all the treatments except the last two and was told to go home and he would be examined in about a month. Two weeks ago my father went back for his cat scan from head to toe. The Doctors could not find the cancer!

I do not know what the future holds for my Dad and Cancer. All I do know is that he is healthy now!

I hope this helps with Caring for your Grandma!

Your post was very helpful to

All the posts on this site have been very helpful to me.  My grandpa, 83 was just Dx with stage 4 lung cancer.  I sit here watching my family fall apart, but I have a sense of calm and hope.  He is a fight and I KNOW he can fight this.  Your stories is inspirational, thank you for sharing.

    my version
    suebloom:

I was diagnosed with head/neck cancer the first of september, 2005, surgery in october, chemo and rads into january of '06. In June of '07 results of a cat scan showed 'cancer' across both of my lungs, shotgun-spread. No surgery, no rads, only palliative chemo-therapy offered, and the advice that I had 'a minimum of ten months to live.'

In the meantime, I started taking Keflex for an infection in my jaw and lower face area. Subsequent CAT and PET scans (about two months later) showed that the 'cancer' had disappeared, with one exception: it had clearly been a lung infection of some sort, misread by the experts.

Ultimately, the one remaining node was removed and biopsied, and though it proved to be squamous cell cancer (same as my head/neck cancer) they decided to remove that lower right lung lobe since there was no evidence of any cancer around it. (The node was too small to stage or to determine whether it was indeed metastasis from the tongue/neck.)

Last november ('08) I was diagnosed NED and received the same dx just three weeks ago.

I have a page and a blog on this site, if you would care to read more.

    Best wishes to you, suebloom!

    Take care,

    Joe

My Case is Very Similar to Yours, Joe

Joe,  If you are still using this site, I could use some contact from you. I also had Head & Neck cancer (18 months ago), had surgery and follow-up radiation and all scans of that area have been clean since. However a recent chest scan shows some small nodules in lower right lobe that are malignant. At this point I still don't know if it metastatic from the head/neck or just a secondary random occurance of cancer but the cells look like the same type as before. I'm waiting nervously for the follow-up tests and suggestions of a treatment plan. Needless to say, I'm scared and nervous about the future. I need all the hope & support I can get. Please reach out if you receive this..... that goes for anyone else who has had a similar experience. I want to be amoung the SURVIVORS of cancer and live to watch my beautiful grandchildren grow up. I am now 65 and otherwise in good health and feeling quite well, aside from getting 'winded' easily when I exert myself. I'm determined to keep going... gardening, walking and enjoying life!

I am sorry you had to find us, but I wanted to tell you I don't believe Joe comes on this site anymore.  I think it was a personal issue.

I visit this site for anal cancer mainly, but I had lung cancer not a metasis from the anal but a new primary which I had vats for on 9-23-10 and so far so good ned on both cancers the anal cancer I completed tx for on 6-30-09.

I also visit the Inspire web site for lung cancer, lots of posters there.  If you use Inspire I am sure there would also be head and neck cancer survivors there.

    I wish you well. Lori

    Z is correct.

Joe has not been on the boards now for a couple years.  He had a parting of the ways with ACS and hasn't been back. I'm a 5 year survivor of stage 4 lung cancer so I know it can happen.  Your overall health going in I'd often a good indicator of how you will do.  My best to you and hopes for a terrific outcome!

    Diet of cancer fighting foods

    Greetings

can you elaborate a bit on the cancer fighting foods, what are they and where did you find out about them?

I am currently undergoing treatment for stage 4 lung cancer.   Yesterday I developed a rather nasty allergic reaction to Cisplatin.   Not sure what's next but I have competent docs.

i'm also using cannabis oil to control nausea, so far so good and I'm 1/2 way thru treatments.

Cannabis Oil is made from pot, it is sold legally as the THC component has been removed.   I've been using CDB Drip.    Pot is legal to use in Alaska.  I've been smoking a few hits / puffs a night and it really helps my esophagus

Also, I highly recommend everyone read Healing Spices.   Everyone.    It describes the documented evidence of how spices can help heal the body.    Sounds like I'm some far out dude seeking off the wall treatments, but I challenge you all to take a few minutes to google spices and cancer plus cannabis  and cancer.   You will be surprised

    I have been diagnosed with

I have been diagnosed with stage 4 lung cancer in both lungs, right side non-small cell, left side small cell with mets to the lymps. I also suffer from CHF congestive heart failure and am presently operating on 45% of my heart, I have had multiple strokes and have early onset of Altzheimers and Parkinsons, I am currently on Hospice care , but I am still going, I am 49yrs old (X) Marine married and happy. I ride in a power wheel chair because the Parkinson and chemo have effected my brain. But I am not sorry I did chemo it bought me more time with my wife and 5 grandchildren. Sometimes we just have to believe that things will work the way their suppose to and that all things will be okay. Everything has risks, but if we don't try than we have let go of hope. I don't mean try something that is off the wall, but treatments that have a good chance of working , even a little are worth it to me. I don't want to think of the future but I am not scared of it, I have been doing treatments since apirl of 2008 and just hope for more time.

My prayers are with all who have this disease and their families, that they find peace and continue to live life no matter what the diagnosis is.. enjoy life and laught, it helps.

    Survivors?

My mother went into the hospital with difficulty breathing.  They said she had a pulmonary embolism.  In addition, they found two large masses in her right lung, spots in her left left, fluid around lung and heart, spots on her adrenal glands, kidney, and liver.  They said she also broke a rib in that area a few months ago.  She never fell.  She lost weight without trying, no appetite, and had some confusion.  Lung also collapsed due to fluid and had a stroke.  Anyone survive this?

shock and pain, recent diagnosis of mother

My mother was diagnosed only a short while ago...stage 4 lung cancer, adenocarcoma.  4cm mass, spread to lypmh nodes in chest, her liver, her spine, and her ribs.  As well as to her pelvic bone.  They are checking her spine and brain this week.  She is 67, smoked most of her life.  She has lost a lot of weight, and has trouble eating without getting nauseous (i got her a really good blender this week in the hopes that smoothies might be easier to digest/keep down).

I know the odds aren't good.  She is going to be put in a clinical trial, and the doctor said chemo is the only treatment at this point.  I just watched a friend die of cancer not even 2 months ago.  My mother looks like she did in her final months and i am terrified.

Not sure exactly what I'm hoping for from this board, maybe just a chance to have a shared experience and hear from others.  I have a support network for myself in my friends and my partner, but, i am all my mother has and i am afraid that I will let her down.

large cell neuroendocrine carcinoma of lungs

I am new to this community, and am desperately wanting to communicate with someone who is a survivor or caregiver. My husband was diagnosed Dec.23, 2016, and it has been a roller coaster ride.  Prognosis is dismal to say the least.  We have been through chemo and radiation, and in August preventative Brain Radiation Therapy, which I was against, so now its a waiting game!!! I hate this, no luck in finding any Long term survivors!  Please Help, I need encouragement!
