acupuncture
Just wanted to throw this out there. I am almost 6 weeks out of treatment. I was looking through the forum when I came upon MrsBD post about acupuncture during her treatment. She mentioned that she used a protocol developed by MD Anderson Cancer Center in Texas. So, I downloaded that protocol and took it to a acupunturist. He is using the protocol and refining it to my personal situation, along with chinese herbs. I started out with twice a week and now am going once a week. I must say the results have been very good. My saliva has increased considerably and it has assisted in taste returning quickly. Thanks MrsBD! I continue to improve both physically and mentally. I am very thankful for the insights, stories and encouragement that I still find here.

Awesome! It's wonderful when we can help other people through this site. When the oncolgist recommended acupuncture I was skeptical, but I'm a believer now! How acupuncture works is a mystery to me, but I feel truly blessed to have been given the opportunity to include it in my treatment plan. The dentist even said if he didn't know my history, he would never suspect I had radiation. Hopefully it will prevent the dental issues so many people have experienced from lack of saliva. I hope you continue to have good results and thank you for letting me know that you were helped!

can you point me in the direction of the protocol? My husband participated in a study that used ALTENS which is acupuncture-like transcutaneous electrical nerve stimulation. It was supposed to simulate acupuncture but it had no noticeable benefit. I would like to encourage him to try the "real deal", anything to help bring back some salivary function.

There is so much scientific information out there about the positive effects, here are a few and the last is the MD Anderson protocol.
