Cheese Queen checking in
Hi Gals!
Just checking in to let you know I'm healing nicely. I made it up and down the steps yesterday and had dinner at my kitchen table. Everything seems to be moving nicely (if you know what I mean) and spotting is minimal. Pain really just from the incision and I might be able to just go with Tylenol today.
Only problem I'm still having is giving those darned injections. My home health nurse is coming again today so maybe she can help me correct my technique so they don't hurt. When I did it when she was here, it didn't hurt. Go figure.
I'm going to ask my doc today if it might be okay for me to take a 3 hour car ride tomorrow down to our condo at the beach. Might be a nice change of scenery. For those of you who had abdominal surgery, not just DaVinci, what do you think about this?
Wishing you all who celebrate, a very blessed Easter weekend!

CQ...happy to hear you are healing nicely. I think a drive to the beach would be wonderful and nice to get out of the house. Wear compression belt and take a pillow to hug to help cushion those road bumps.

Hi Sisters,
Recovery from surgery is going great. Hard to believe they opened up my belly a mere 11 days ago! I'm enjoying being at the beach and will be picking up my new recliner on the way home. That's the good news.
My gyn/onc just called and said lymph nodes were positive. I didn't bother to ask her which ones, all of them were suspicious (by all I mean the ones up in the aortic area too ). I also didn't ask her specifically about the path report. I made a commitment to not look at it online until I meet with her on Wednesday. She has also set me up to meet with a medical oncologist right after I meet with her. I will look at the path report online on Wed AM before my appointment. No need to lose sleep over stuff now. Let's hope for a good path report and if not, the strength to play the hand I'm dealt with all the skill possible.
Thanks for your support!

So glad to hear your recovery is moving along nicely!
Sorry to hear about the lymph nodes. Your attitude will get you through this. You are very strong and positive. Please let us know what you learn on Wednesday. And, in the meantime, enjoy the beach. Once you have a plan, you will find strength that you never knew you had.
Love and Hugs,

best! I remember all too clearly my experience when I returned to the gyn/onc's office to get the results of my pathology report ( on 11/07/13). Everything I experienced happened in slow motion. After waiting over an hour to see the nurse practitioner, I told my partner that this "delay" did not bode well for me. Finally, she came into the room and sat down in a wheeled stool and rolled it close right into my personal space. My head was exploding with "Oh, no, oh no, oh, no bad news is coming!! Then she showed me a picture of the anatomy of the female reproductive system and I am screaming silently. I KNEW that the news would not be in my favor. She does her spiel telling me that I had stage 3a UPSC. After hearing this horrific, Earth-shattering news, I can remember saying out loud OMG, this is VERY bad news!
But you know what, Cheese? I never expected to survive almost 2.5 years after my hysterectomy and yet I have greeted another year that I never believed I would see. Always, always have hope even in your darkest hours! Strangely, I am no longer as terrified of what may happen to me. I seem to have reach a higher plain and am much more accepting of my eventual demise. After all, none of us will get out of this life experience alive.
I am there in your corner on Wednesday when you learn more about your diagnosis, Cheese. Regardless of what you hear, believe that you can "do this"; this cancer treatment.
I know that you can!
With Love and a Hug,
Cathy

From what I've read, it doesn't matter which nodes are positive, peri aortic or pelvic. It's simply considered a spread outside the uterous. They will recommend chemo for adjuvant therapy, maybe radiation. The path report will just show the size and extent of the tumor within the uterous. Maybe I missed it, but have they determined the type, endometrial, clear cell or serous? I consider all of it to be treatable, some are just more common to recurrance than others. You have a bunch of people on this board on your side, some are NED, some have recurrances but are still enjoying life while having treatment, some of us are just finishing up front line chemo, and others like you are just beginning. You have a great attitude, kudos for putting aside the stuff that you can't do anything about for now. Hugs Nancy

Thanks so much!
Thank you all so much for your responses. You all truly are the only ones who know exactly what I'm going through. I did not ask stage, grade, or type on the phone today. I'll check out the path report on Wednesday. No matter what, my plan will be to have the slides read by another pathologist to confirm, perhaps at Johns Hopkins. One step at a time. Than you all for your caring support. I'll keep you posted.

We're here for you, CQ!!! I agree, why worry about something that is over and done? Once you find out on Wednesday exactly what you have, you can work out your battle plan. Are you taking somebody with you on Wednesday? I went alone thinking my oncologist would just reaffirm what my biopsy had shown - Stage I, Grade 1. I wish now, I had brought somebody with me to take notes because I guess I was kind of in shock. At least you're going in there prepared.

Hi: Congrats on getting through surgery! :-)
On the advice on two of my cousins who are doctors, I too had a second opinion done on my pathology.
Maybe you already know this and, if you do, I apologize (I didn't), but my pathologist cousin said to insist on not just having the slides sent to your second-opinion lab, but also having the paraffin blocks sent. She said many, if not most, pathologists will only send a few of the slides; however, a thorough second opinion can not be done unless all your blocks are sent. She even sent me to the hospital to make sure I got all of them. LOL!
When your slides are done, only a tiny amount of your tissue is taken from a block and your results are determined by the skill of that particular pathologist in choosing which part of the block to sample. If all your blocks are present, another pathologist may decide to sample another area of your tissue for more studies -- and perhaps come to a different conclusion. My cousin said this is like a jigsaw puzzle: If I give you all 1000 pieces, you would have a much better chance of seeing the whole picture rather than if I gave you only, say, 50.
Apparently this wasn't done often at my hospital becaue the pathology rep at first refused to turn the blocks over, saying it wasn't their "policy." My cousin put in a call for me and politely read the Riot Act. They dragged their feet for a couple of weeks, but did turn them over.
Good luck to you!

yes, I agree with others. Bring someone with you when you get the pathology report. I brought my husband and my best friend who is a cancer survivor. It was a big help. My cancer was in 2 lymph nodes with other unpleasant findings but I made it through external and brachytherapy and have no made it through 3 chemos! You can do this. I am living well and been on 2 trips inbetween chemosynthesis on weeks I am feeling good. Prayers for you!

so happy you are healing. I am jealous of the beach, would love to be sitting there in the sunshine. I am glad you are not wasting precious time worrying about what may be. You will have plenty of time to do that as time goes by. You are strong and will amaze yourself with how strong you are going to be through this. Hugs and prayers, Lou Ann
