ENT called tonight....the lymph node biopsy showed cancer.  SH*T is all I can say!  He says wherever it is, it is very small since the CT never picked it up in August....since the lymph has grown hardly at all since then, either.  His office will be calling me tomorrow to set up a PET scan.  Here we go again.

I'm still in shock....really....I feel just fine....so this just isn't computing at all.

    THIS SUCKS

Ever since I joined this board a few months ago, you have been there encouraging, reassuring, sharing valuable insight and information. We've never met, but I feel like we've been friends for a long time. All I can say is the bottom fell out of my stomach when I read your post - it's like...like...you're family. And in a way you ARE. I'm so sorry you got bad news Phrannie. I wish I could rewind and make it come out differently. I'll be doubling my prayers for you beginning now..

    Phrannie,

I am sure that your mind is in a fog, I know when I got Melanoma less than 1 yr after going thru the Base of Tongue cancer, it seemed to hit me harder than the Base of Tongue cancer. I put P51 in the subject line as it stands for a Fighter Plane during WWII. You are a fighter, so you will meet the enemy head on once again.

As you have often said here, I am putting you in my pocket.

My Best to You and Everyone Here

Back on the bus... at the same time

What are the odds? We didn't even have the same kind of cancer.

I'm so sorry to hear the biopsy showed cancer. I hope they caught it so early that all they have to do is a quick surgery and you're done. I'll be thinking of you.

    My heart sank

My heart just sank when I heard this news.  Phrannie, you've been the 'mustard seed' of this outfit since you first signed on here.  Move that mountain again, girl.  Matthew 17:20.

Small is good, and YOU ARE BETTER.  What a shock to hear, but you will kick this to the curb. Only good thoughts and extra prayers

Dear Phrannie, that isn't what we were hoping to hear. After the PET scan you'll have a better idea of what you're dealing with, but it does sound like it's thankfully been caught early.  My jeans have an extra little pocket that I'm going to call "Phrannie's Place" so you'll always be close in thoughts andprayers.

    Thank you everyone....

I am always home on this board.....and you all let me know that you care about me....

Yes, Laralyn.....the odds of you and I hitting the board at the same time TWICE makes me wonder if we should go out and buy lottery tickets....I mean....this might be the time, since the odds are working with us!

I didn't feel this healthy the last time I joined up here as a patient.....I truly have felt pretty good.....walking miles a day, playing with my dogs....hey, I even took up cooking a few months ago (something I avoided for 2 years).....but hubby was loving.

    I don't look sick, and I don't even have a lump....like WTF?

    @#$^&@#$#$

Being as you're a lady, and Mom taught me not to use dirty language around them, you'll forgive me for expressing myself over this news.

I can relate to what you're going through, after I had  my first neck dissection in 2012, I had a follow up PET in March of 2013 and was 100% confident that it would be clear, I can't quite express the emotion I experienced when my RO called with the bad news.

I was lucky though, the second dissection went well, the nodes tested negative even thought the PET showed high SUV's, and the next PET was clear.

As you've tucked me and so many of our family into your pocket, so too will I tuck you into mine

    Attitude is everything.....

    Oh no..

as NPC caregiver I am so sorry to hear this.  You are always in my prayer. Good to know that it's small, slow growth and only one enlarged node.

    Hang Tough..

    As I know you will...

Early is good as my bud Kent mentioned.... hopefully maybe at most you can get a way with surgery, and minimal for any possible residual... With you Jackie..., you're a tough woman, and I know you can kick it..

    Always,

    John

PET scan is scheduled for the 27th

I don't even feel upset having to wait 10 days....think I'll just pretend all is well, since I feel just fine....even feeling grateful that because I have been here before, and get regular check ups this was found so very early.

    Hi Phrannie

I'm so sorry.  I guess that is all we are looking at for the rest of our lives.  They caught it earily...great job.

    Sorry to hear this

So sorry to hear this phrannie. I've learned so much from the folks who support this group and share their personal experiences on what to expect, and you're one of them.

    Stay strong!

    So sorry

Phrannie, I am so so sorry to hear this news. I am in that class of 2012 and am heading for my 6 month ENT check up Monday. You will be in my daily prayers, praying for a good pet scan, and an easy fix for this. You were one of the first people who helped my with encouragement and information when I joined this page and this news just puts me in tears. I hate cancer so much! But you have the prayers of so many people going up for you. You are tucked into a lot of pockets. You will beat this!

    I'll be sucking up

all the prayers, good mojo, crossed digits, and pocket tuckings I can hold....tonight I'm finding myself jumpy as a fart on a hot skillet...comes in waves and then I go back to just being phrannie.  Feed hubby, walk the dogs, feed the horses....just a normal day/night....I feel like an observer....LOL.

    Another option?

    Hey Phrannie,

Hello, I previously posted  a similar post under a different heading. I, obviously am a big fan of immunotherapy.

Hello, I do not post often but do read the posts. I was originally diagnosed in 2012  with SCC stage IV tonsil cancer with lymph node involvement on both sides of neck. I had a modified bilateral (ear to ear) neck dissection. No chemo or rads as I had those for lymphoma 20 years prior. I was NED a until a recurrance in 2013. After refusing treatment, I was given 6 months to live and by March 2014 was coughing up a good amount of blood and feeling the tumors getting bigger. In April 2014 I joined a clinical trial for MEDI4736 at The Angeles Clinic in Los Angeles with Dr. Ani Balmanoukian (The trial is offered in other places). 1 hour infusions 2X/month with practically no side effects (some itching for 2-3 weeks) The trial lasted a year and to date I'm NED. About MEDI4736: MEDI4736 is a human monoclonal antibody directed against programmed cell death ligand 1 (PD-L1). Signals from PD-L1 help tumours avoid detection by the immune system. MEDI4736 blocks these signals, countering the tumour’s immune-evading tactics. MEDI4736 is being developed, alongside other immunotherapies (IMTs), to empower the patient’s immune system and attack the cancer.

The FDA has already approved anti PD-L1 drugs for some cancers and more approvals are on the way. Immunotherapies empower the entire immune system to attack cancer at all fronts ...not just hot spots that show up on CT or PET.

I"m more than happy to answer questions if you would like.
