cancer

After years of dealing with cancer and a few more years as a survivor, I thought I was over scan anxiety or even fear of cancer's return.  Turns out I still fear cancer, but not mine.  My wife has had a couple of procedures after a mamogram found something.  We don't even know for sure what it is or isn't, but every time the phone rings I fear it is bad news.  I know she is strong because of how she responded when I got cancer.  Turns out I am not made of the same metal she is.  WTH, why does it take so long to find out the results from tests!?!  Augh.  My stomach hurts.

    I

feel for you Rick.  Roughly 2 months prior to my wife's colon cancer diagnosis, she had her annual mamogram.  Yep... found something on the x-ray.  They were getting things lined up for a biospy and etc. Did the biospy the and bam.. colon cancer hit.  As the surgeon said, "we need to deal with the CRC and deal with whatever is in the breast later."  I was beyond devestated.  Anyways, we dealt with the CRC then after treatment they went in a did a lumpectomy (Sp?) and nothing was there.  Doc's were baffled and really to this day are not sure what happened to it. Maybe the chemo wiped it out.  No one really knows.  All is good now... All follow up mamograms have been clear.  She is on tomoxifen for "preventive maintenance."

I'm sorry you and your wife are traveling down the road.  Stay positive.

    Hugs mate

It is for me one of the few cosolations of living alone. I can face my own demons but it's not so easy when a loved one is involved. Wishing for the best outcome for the both of you. Ron,

    Gutted

I would be gutted if my husband or one of my children were diagnosed. I'd rather go through it all over again, than have that happen.

I will keep your wife in my prayers, and you.

    Not good news

hi Rick,  indeed this is not good news, the not knowing is even harder. But you can do this..... Together. Yes it iis much harder to be the care giver on the sideline then the subject yourself. You feel more helpless. But you will be surprised, you do have the strength in you and together you will conquer this beast .

i have been NED for 4 years now and now they found a spot on my face and leg. Yes skin cancer, now I'm waiting for an appointment with a dermatologist.mthe waiting is indeed the hardest.

Sending love. Light. Patience and healing thoughts, hug, Marjan

Please let us know what the outcome is...

While going through all this cancer stuff with my brother, they found something on my mammogram. The radiologist scared the jeepers out of me and said it didn't look good. When the report came back, it was NOT cancer. I was relieved but wanted to wring the radiologist's neck. I have to go back soon for my next mammogram and now I have anxiety and keep unconsciously trying to put it off. Today I am making the appointment, but I'm a nervous wreck.

Good luck. I hope she's fine and it comes back negative for cancer.

I've had a couple of mammo scares, both turned out to be nothing, but it caused a good deal of anxiety.  Hoping your wife is fine,  please let us know,

    Let's hope the waiting

    Rick,

Let's hope the waiting is the worst part. You can do it but I hope and pray that you don't have to go that way again.

    took forever

It took forever - they had to do mutiple tests and do a needle biopsy.  Seems, it was nothing to worry over - Sally is fine!  I think I just started breathing again last Tuesday when we found out!

Thank you all so much for the encouragement.  I could not find any in myself.

I'm glad the scares over. The pain and fear that comes when you go from patient to caregiver as a doctor tells you your wife has a tumor [brain] is overwhelming. You can't think beyond the days and moments as they tick by. You celebrate the moments and enjoy the times you have [and we did], but she's been gone since April 30, after a 6 and a half year battle, and I got an all-clear on my PET scan Friday last, tried to celebrate, and was so consumed with survivor guilt and her absence, I just went to bed. It still overwhelms. When things get hard, be thankful for the "road not taken". and enjoy your moments. That's why I come here, to read what these brave folks say and do to keep going. I have kids and grandkids that need me to get better and stronger, and that in itself is enough.
